Bass Lake Fruit Smoothies

This is my recipe for smoothies that I always use. We drank many of these while Holidaying at Bass Lake California, hence the name.
My daughter loves these, and it's a great morning treat, especially before school, it helps get her moving! I let her choose what flavour she wants the night before, and bring it up to her while she's getting ready for School.
The key is the vanilla yogourt, it gives it a great flavour. -- posted by ~Leslie~

Troy's Frosty Fruit Smoothie

This frosty non-dairy delight is the standard breakfast in our home every weekend year-round. Frozen fruit (no sugar added) makes for convenience and frostiness. The fresh bananas give it its thick, creamy texture. Couple this smoothie some almonds or pecans on the side, and I suspect this must be a taste of heaven. It makes a blender full and tastes best when made fresh. If you happen to have any leftovers, pour them into freezer pops for a healthy and yummy snack the kids will love. Be creative and use whatever fruits you happen to love. Measurements are approximate, we just fill up the blender. :) -- posted by Southernhopsing

Banana Almond Date Soy Smoothie

This vegan smoothie is amazingly rich, creamy, filling, and healthy. It has a nice texture to it from the almonds and a natural sweetness from the banana and dates. I like that there is no refined sugar added or any animal products, all good for us and the planet. I like using a frozen banana to make the drink cold, but room temperature works well too. If you want to freeze bananas, peel them before freezing. Peeling frozen bananas doesn't work! And place them separated in the freezer so they don't freeze together. -- posted by Chef #1363287

Berry Smooth Shake Smoothie

This is my favourite smoothie recipe! My kids love it, which is even better. Oddly, I originally found it on a website providing camping tips for the Freeman River campground in Alberta. I haven't yet figured out how to get my blender to work in my tent, but the recipe is a big hit in my kitchen at home. I've also done this with strawberries, which were tasty. The fruit doesn't necessarily have to be frozen. -- posted by Mctet

Healthy Strawberry-Banana Breakfast Smoothie

I've been trying to eat healthier and add in my fruits and vegetables in my diet. For me, that's a huge task since I'm a horribly picky eater! I wanted to get more bananas in my diet for the potassium, but I HATE the taste of them! So basically what I did this morning for breakfast was add everything into this smoothie recipe until I could barely taste the banana and it worked! I calculated that this smoothie is about 470 calories, and almost 9 grams of fiber. I also flax oil to give this drink an extra boost of nutrition. -- posted by Chef #1356549

I make this one without rum but you certainly can do this with. When you freeze the banana make sure to peel it first, otherwise you'll need a knife to get the peel off.
Smoothie in Paradise

Pineapple, mango, banana and coconut....why shouldn't breakfast remind you of a caribbean vacation?!?! I've been playing mad scientist with the blender lately and this is my favorite concoction yet. The most important thing I've learned about smoothies: FROZEN FRUIT IS THE WAY TO GO! If you allow it to partially thaw so that the fruit is still quite icey, but softened enough to blend easily, you do not have to add as much ice and thus get more intense flavor.

(If you do not care for the granular consisitency of flaked coconut you could substitute with 1/8 to 1/4 cup of canned cream of coconut.) -- posted by FolkDiva

Berry Yoghurt Smoothie

I got this recipe from Sarah Owen's book "The Top 100 juices", published by Lifetime Distributers, Castle Hill, Australia.
Sarah Owen says "The super-nutrient vitamin C is needed for more than 300 diferent processes in the body, but it is easily wiped out by smoking, pollution and stress. Found in abundance in berries, vitamin C and other antioxidants help to quash the damaging free radicals that are associated with many illnesses."
The original recipe calls for natural bio yoghurt to be used, but any yoghurt will do.
This makes a large amount of smoothie, and if you're making it just for yourself, I'ld recommend halving it.
I hope you enjoy this healthy - but still tasty - smoothie :) -- posted by TALIA #3

Tink's Tropical Smoothie

Using my new (to me) VitaMix blender, I've been experimenting with smoothie options. I don't like milk, yogurt, or even much ice cream so the usual recipes don't appeal to me. However, at Jamba Juice I always sub pineapple sherbert in my drinks. To date, this is my favorite homemade smoothie & it's the closest to my favorite Jamba flavor. I'm posting it now so I don't forget what combination I used this time. :) It's a tropical, not too sweet, drink with all frozen fruit & juice. -- posted by **Tinkerbell**

Fall Harvest Smoothie

This recipe tastes like pumpkin pie in a glass! You will never know it is packed with veggies and fruits and "good for you stuff". Top with a little fat free whip cream for an extra-special desert. My teen-age daughter begs for this and sometimes we even heat it up for a thick soup. The key to this recipe is to make sure you use a blender/smoothie maker that has enough power to completely puree alll the ingredients; otherwise the squash will stay stringy. -- posted by RackeSRN

Raspberry-Peach Smoothie (Diabetic)

This recipe is from a health magazine and was created by a Diabetes Education Program Director. It has low glycemic index ingredients such as peaches, apples, milk and yogurt. The moderate glycemic index ingredients would be the raspberries and the high index item would be the honey. It is very yummy and not overly sweet! I think it favors a milk shake! They say feel free to sub out blueberries or strawberries for the raspberries. -- posted by JanuaryBride

Breakfast or Dessert Smoothie

Smoothies are a great way to get your daily servings of fruit, vegetables and dairy. I have one of these with a veggie-laden breakfast bagel, and another one after dinner. Mixing up which types of fruit you use ensures a great variety of flavors as well as your full range of vitamins, so these things never get old! Try berries for your frozen fruit and something tropical for your fresh fruit, or use cherries and an extra banana with chocolate milk for a treat every now and then. -- posted by Alexander Mar

Strawberry Raspberry Smoothie

I made this completely by accident, and i love it! I use Yoplait thick and creamy yougurt, i think it gives the drink the best texture, and I also use the condensed frozen juice, welches white grape is the best, but apple also works, depends on how sweet you like it. I also found substituting 1 Delmonte Fruit chiller in polar raspberry tastes better to me than the frozen berries themselves. To each his own.
For a healthier smoothie use light yougurt, no sugar added juice, and skim milk. -- posted by Chef #1470073

Fiberlicious Smoothie

As a serious smoothie addict, I have done quite a bit of experimenting to make something both delicious and filling. While I do love smoothies with fresh fruit, this particular recipe works best with frozen fruit because of the addition of cereal. Play around with flavors of yogurt and fruit until you find a pairing that you love! My favorite is Dannon Light and Fit banana yogurt and frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries). If you want to make this low-carb, look for SoySlender brand soy milk, as it only has 1g net carbs per serving. -- posted by The Casual Gourmet

Power Packed Purple Smoothie

I've gotten really into having smoothies for breakfast lately. They taste great and it helps me get in some great nutrients to start my day. This one contains a couple ingredients that will make you think "What??!!" Trust me on this one. The cottage cheese adds lots of protein and gives the smoothie a creamy texture. Spinach adds lots of vitamin A and you can't even taste it (really, I promise!). ___________________________________________
