Punch With Floating Worm Ice

This was a hit at our murder mystery party. It's really supposed to be a creepy-crawly punch for Halloween gatherings because kids love the gummy worms in the ice cubes. It's super simple and a lot of fun. You could just make the ice cubes and serve it in any beverage to make it more interesting. I found the recipe on betterrecipes.com. Cook time excludes ice cube freezing time. -- posted by AmyZoe

I had this at a party, and it was just too good. Feel free to add onion or chilves or other spices or leave out the hot pepper sauce...whatever floats your boat.
Poppy-Seed-Cherry-Cake With Crumble Topping

My sis and me came up with this cake recipe when asked by a friend to bring something to her birthday party. It is very moist with a lovely cherry poppy seed flavour and a sweet crunch from the crumble topping. This makes one big cake (about 20 slices) and you can sub whatever fruit you like for the cherries. I think mandarin oranges would be great as well. -- posted by Lalaloula

Chocolate Mint Brownies

Perfect for St. Patrick's Day, and it feeds an army! This recipe is from America's Best Church Supper Recipes/Taste of Home from Helen Baines of Elkton, Maryland. She says they get moister if they are left in the refrigerator for a day or two before serving if you can leave them alone that long. They are very rich but delicious. I couldn't find mint chocolate chips so I used Andes Mints instead. I also found it needed a little more cooking time, but that may vary by altitude and your stove. Thank you Helen for the great recipe! -- posted by AmyZoe

Dreamy Peanut Butter, Banana & Oatmeal Elvis Bars

The generous amount of Peanut Butter makes these bars taste rich and creamy, the banana keeps it *ultra* moist and takes on a mellow background flavor, and the oatmeal holds it all together PLUS some chocolate thrown in for good measure :) These are better the next day, don't contain and eggs or flour, and are a good way to use up some ripe bananas! -- posted by roweena

Warm and Toasty Spinach and Artichoke Dip

Yes, another spinach and artichoke dip recipe! This is my version after trying many different variations. This dip is creamy and easy to dip a chip into, not a hard spread-like consistency. This one has no mayo, and you can substitute fat free items if wanted. I have spared a few calories in my version, without compromising the yummy cheesiness.
Samoas Bars - Just Like the Girl Scout Cookies!

These bars are an easy-to-make copycat version of the coconut/caramel/chocolate/shortbread Girl Scout cookie that seem to come less and less to a box every year... maybe it's just me... I LOVE these cookies - I have been an addict since I was in the Girl Scouts at age 5, and upon first bite I knew these bars and I would have a long, loving relationship (when I'm not at the gym frantically trying to elliptical away the evidence of my coconut-caramel love affair). :) NOTE: Prep time includes cooling time. -- posted by Greeny4444

Scandinavian Potluck Picnic Salad

Wendy Richard's Chili Recipe - the Best Chili Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you ready for the BEST CHILI you've ever had? Only made this because I am a HUGE fan of Wendy Richard (MBE) who played "Miss Brahms" on "Are You Being Served" and she also played Pauline Fowler on "EastEnders". She recently passed away and printed her famous chili recipe on the back of her funeral program. (You can see a photo of that in here! Check out the photos for this recipe) I've had chili all over Texas and the South - I even made both recipes from "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" (both were VERY good) but I will tell you - hands down - THIS WOMAN'S RECIPE IS THE BEST CHILI I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY WHOLE LIFE! And when I say "THE BEST" I mean: "I am SO STUFFED I might explode - but I can't STOP eating this chili because it tastes so AMAZING". Ok? I tried to put it in the freezer - and ended up taking it out 10 minutes later and eating it again. Today I had it for breakfast on eggs, and lunch and dinner! Can't wait to have more tomorrow! I'm NOT sharing this batch with ANYONE! But I will share the recipe!

VERY URGENT/IMPORTANT: THE WHOLE SECRET OF THE RECIPE IS IN THE SCHWARTZ BRAND CHILI MIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Use any other brand and it will only be a 2-3 star recipe! If you are in the USA the "Schwartz" brand chili mix in this recipe can be ordered online from www.Distantbrits.co.uk or any other British food sites. PLEASE ONLY use "Schwartz" brand if you want this to come out a 5 STAR recipe- if you use any other brand, like "El Paso", "Chichi's" "Ortega" or "McCormicks" it will be disappointing because those 4 brands I just named are nothing but salt and chemicals with very little spices. I HAVE MADE THIS RECIPE WITH THOSE 4 OTHER BRANDS, JUST TO COMPARE -WHICH IS HOW I KNOW, IF YOU USE ANYTHING BUT SCHWARTZ - IT'S GOING TO BE A DISAPPOINTMENT. PLEASE TRUST ME - IT'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WORTH IT TO SEND AWAY FOR THE SCHWARTZ BRAND, YOU CAN GET THE SCHWARTZ CHILI MIX IN 2 DIFFERENT HEATS: MEDIUM/MILD AND HOT. I PROMISE YOU - IF YOU ORDER THE SCHWARTZ AND DON'T THINK THIS WAS A 5 STAR CHILI - SEND ME AN EMAIL AND I'LL PAY YOU BACK FOR THE COST OF BUYING THE SCHWARTZ. OK?

If you can't find the British "Schwartz" brand, send the lady at distantbrits.co.uk an email requesting it. Tell her which kind of heat you want., "McCormicks" brand in the USA is very disappointing - even the "hot", it's not spicy and the taste really is missing something important. I even tried adding more cumin, and fresh Jalepeno's but McCormicks - it's just NOT AS GOOD as Schwartz, so - if using McCormick's- please know - you've been forwarned: it's not going to be a 5 star chili. If you're in the UK - you should have no problem finding this product.

ALSO - careful when ordered because the recipe calls for 4 Schwartz chili. That means chili MIX - NOT 4 bottles of chili powder!!!! (I say be careful because Schwartz also makes chili powder, and you don't need 4 bottles of chili POWDER for this LOL!)

I used the HOT Chili Mix, but Wendy specifed "Mild". Get whatever heat you are comfortable with. Be FOREWARNED: If ordering the "Hot" - just because it's from England doesn't mean it's not as hot as you think. While it is the most delish chili mix, It is 5 ALARM Texas hot!!!!! And this is coming from a gal who drinks "Franks Red Hot" straight out of the bottle whenever I have a craving! The mild is "mild" and also extremely delish.

Menier's Chocolate is VERY hard to find if you live in the USA. I could only find 1 place online that sells it (Distantbrits.co.uk) Otherwise, use a VERY DARK (Swiss is preffered). When you open the Menier - the actual chocolate says "Nestle", so I guess you could get bittersweet or semi-sweet Nestle. Just don't use Hershey (ugh!)

When it smells ready - eat it. You don't HAVE to simmer for 3 hours, as directed by Wendy. (Personally, I couldn't wait that long, it smelled too good) It even tastes amazing room temp hours later!

I promise you - if you make this recipe EXACTLY as is - with NO SUBSTITUTIONS ON THE CHILI MIX (you CAN make substitutions on the chocolate)- Your tastebuds will think you've died and gone to heaven. I can see why Wendy would leave such a fantastic Chili recipe on the back of her funeral program - people were probably begging her for years for this recipe.

When I make this for the next Texas chili cook-off - this WILL win 1st place - and I will give Wendy Richard all the credit since it is her recipe.

Huh! Who'd have thunk the best recipe for Chili would come from ENGLAND!?????!!!!!!

R.I.P. Wendy - and I thank YOU for all the years you've made me laugh and cry and for the gift of this AMAZING Chili recipe! I will be entering it into contests in your memory! I also hope all the people here will make this and enjoy it and it becomes a family favorite! -- posted by BBCFan

Entered for safe-keeping for ZWT. From Marie Claire. This is the most popular Australian snack, a sure winner at a bake sale. And is it easy! The more traditional Lamingtons have cocoa, but dare to be different. If using cornmeal, pulverize it in a food processor to get a fine flour texture.
Makeover Strawberry Cake

This recipe utilizes a cake mix to make a quick easy dessert. It's called a makeover strawberry cake because the recipe was changed to lower the fat and cholesterol. The icing has less sugar and butter and the cake uses less oil. I must confess that I just threw in 4 whole eggs, but I don't think you'd miss the yolks. I also used regular strawberry gelatin instead of sugar-free and fresh strawberries instead of frozen. Recipe from Taste of Home Healthy Cooking June/July 2009.
Peanut Butter Brownie Cups

I'm not a chocolate fan (atleast not the kind made in the U.S.), but I LOVE peanut butter and chocolate and this hit the spot. I found the recipe in 2007 Taste of Home Annual Recipes, and I followed as listed except I didn't have unsweetened chocolate. Joy of Cooking said to use 3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa plus an additional tablespoon of butter per ounce as a substitute. So I used 9 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa and 3 additional tablespoons of butter which worked like a charm. Thank you Taste of Home and Joy of Cooking for your help with substitutions. -- posted by AmyZoe

Sweet Pea Salad

My friend gave me this recipe several years ago, when our families attended a 4th of July picnic together. I have made it many times since then, and it's always a favorite whenever I make it. The recipe makes quite a bit, so it's one of my favorite dishes to take to potlucks, picnics and other gatherings with large crowds. The recipe would fit a lot of party themes, as the ingredients represent various continental cuisines, from the Asian inspired chestnuts to the Brazilian cashews. But it is the smokey Dutch-influenced gouda cheese that adds a wonderful Mediterranean flair to this great picnic salad. Cooking time does not including chilling time (as that can vary greatly). -- posted by NorthwestGal

Chocolate Chipotle Cookies

Old-Fashioned Potato Salad Adapted from a Recipe Courtesy of Bob

I found this recipe in Guy FIeri's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives from Bob Mueller of Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor, Texas. I must admit I thought the ingredients sounded too simple to be so delicious. This is a potato salad you can't stop eating. I really liked the idea of mashing the potatoes because I've been told the secret to a great potato salad is small and uniform potatoes. I'm way too impatient to dice perfect potatoes, but I did partly mash them and loved the creamy texture (next time I'll mash more thoroughly). Mashing potatoes makes them taste better for some reason, kind of like what happens when shredding cheese (it's just tastier)! I'll make this one again because it's that good. I may have found the potato salad motherload. Serving size is estimated because it wasn't listed. -- posted by AmyZoe

Spicy Sausage, Peppers and Onions (Crock Pot)

Spicy sausage, pepper and onions. Takes very little prep time and is great for potlucks. Inexpensive and makes alot. Very delicious kids and adults both liked it is very filling. I first took it to a church game night that was just supposed to be snack food but knew I would want something a little more filling than chips had several requests for the recipe. Which made me have to think because when I first made it I used what I had in the house. This is what I remember using. I used Bar-S brand polish sausage which is just a cheap sausage a pack of 3 lbs is about $4 ( found in with the hot dogs in the refrigerated section lunch meats and stuff). Could be used as an entree ( just serve it on a whole bun) snack or starter for a party I think. -- posted by awmeme

Marmie's Ever Changing Multi Bean Salad

This is the perfect blend of Tangy/Sweetness, it is remarkably mild, not oily and is hugely versatile! Wonderful for picnics, lunches to go or just an added side at dinner. I do NOT like apple cider vinegar but in this recipe it is fabulous, especially for bean salad skeptics like me. I make it in a one gallon ice cream pail and store it in the fridge, when it begins to run out I add a can of what ever bean I have on hand and a few more red onions. I can do this until the 'brine' runs out. Then I just start all over again and always have it on hand. Fresh cooked beans have a nicer texture and are more cost efficient than canned but canned is yummy too, though do contain lots of sodium. So if you are on a sodium restricted diet, I would suggest cooking dry beans and fresh green and yellow beans for this recipe. Enjoy! -- posted by Marmie's

Just-Right Pesto Pasta Salad

I LOVE pesto pasta, but it seems whenever I get it from the deli, it's either too salty or too oily or both. Also, homemade pesto pasta salads tend to rely on jarred pesto sauce, all of which I find are also too oily and/or salty.
Cucumber Potato Salad

Although it's called cucumber potato salad, the recipe doesn't even call for cucumbers. It calls for cucumber dressing. I think next time this would be good if you threw in a few cucumbers too. This recipe serves 36 and is designed for large gatherings. I made 1/5th of the recipe or so and was pleasantly surprised at the flavor of the cucumber dressing. I must confess that I added a few hard-boiled eggs, used the celery ribs and the leaves, threw in some dill pickle juice, and I couldn't resist a few crunchy garlic dill pickles in the mixture. The recipe is great just by itself, but I love dill pickles and eggs in potato salad.
Marmie's Really Tender Crock Pot Pulled Pork

I was fiddling around with trying to make a yummy Pulled Pork for my stepson Jesse's wedding rehearsal party. I did one butt in the oven without soda and one in the crock pot with soda. I had never used soda pop in a recipe before but I heard it was worth a try and YES it was! The Crock pot recipe turned out so tender, moist and delicious, (according to the thirty something guests...this was a real hit.) Well worth trying and very easy to make. A lovely outdoor or 'big game' meal served with a variety of salads and crusty buns. Oh, and beer.

I found this recipe from Home Cookin' With Dave's Mom (David Letterman), and it's a keeper. I made some with almond kisses and some with regular, and I used half chunky and half creamy peanut butter. I also substituted butter for shortening because it's what I had.
Cook's Illustrated Make-Ahead Potato Salad for a Crowd

This is a very good potato salad from the folks at America's Test Kitchen. I must confess that I love dill pickles and prefer that flavor to sweet pickle relish. I wound up adding a couple dill pickles and some dill pickle juice to this recipe (just a personal preference) and quite a few more eggs. Here are the tips from Cook's Illustrated: If you only have celery salt available, use the same amount but omit the salt in the dressing. When testing potatoes for doneness taste a piece. If you overcook they will become mealy and break apart. The potatoes must be just warm or even fully cooled when you add the dressing. If you find the potato salad a little dry for your liking, add up to 2 tablespoons more mayonnaise. Serving size is estimated. -- posted by AmyZoe

Sturdy, abundant and inexpensive, cabbage is a long-standing dietary staple throughout the world and is so widely cultivated and stores so well that it is available throughout the year. They belong to the Cruciferae family
of vegetables along with kale, broccoli, collards and Brussels sprouts. Cabbage is very high in vitamins C and K, and a decent

Fresh Cranberry Pecan Salad

This salad is my daughter and mother's favorite Thanksgiving recipe. I used to make it every year for the teachers at my children's school--they RAVED over it. After Thanksgiving, I like to have it as a snack over plain yogurt. It is absolutely to die for! -- posted by Chef #738454

Peanut Butter Cookies

This recipe makes enough for a family reunion (I halved the recipe and still had 4 dozen cookies). I've posted the recipe as originally written. I really like the seasonings--cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. It makes a nice twist on a classic treat. Next time I'll skip the shortening and use real butter (just a personal preference). I'd also dip my fork in white sugar and press them in a criss cross pattern after they come out of the oven instead of before. Recipe courtesy of 2009 Taste of Home Annual Recipes. -- posted by AmyZoe
