Fruity Smoothie

I find it very difficult nowadays to find a good, fruity smoothie recipe. Some are too smooth, some are to chunky, and some are too yogurty. I feel like Goldilocks! This is by far my favorite smoothie recipe. You can use whatever type of fruit you like; my favorite is with mango, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Great way to get kids to get calcium and vitamin C! For dieters, you can use non-fat Greek-style plain yogurt. Feel free to add healthful supplements! -- posted by Chef #795103

Strananarrot (Strawberry-Banana-Carrot) Smoothie

Smoothies are fun. It's easier to drink a bunch of strawberries, bananas, and carrots than eating them, I think! I don't like vegetables much, so it's cool to incorporate them in something I do like.

Banana Honey Blueberry Smoothie With Added Fibre

This smoothie is full of goodness....no; greatness! It has the super high anti-oxidant value of blueberries, the sweetness of honey, added fibre of Benefibe and the classic flavour of bananas. Great for a morning snack, or anytime when you need that little something to keep you going between meals.
I came up with this particular combination of ingredients while looking through the fruit bowl and the fridge for a snack, threw it together and it turned out beautifully! I'm sure it's been thought of before...this is my own recipe thought up at the spur of the moment in my kitchen. -- posted by bananapan_cake

" Greens to Go" Smoothie

This is from Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies magazine. "The chlorophyll in greens combats tumor growth; it works on the adrenal glands, purifies the lymph nodes, unclogs the arteries and enriches the blood. It protects against radiation. Chlorophyll is only one of the many benefits of greens. It also provides a large gamut of vitamins and minerals, phyto-nutrients and colon cleansing cellulose.

It is blended so smoothly that even babies starting solids and toddlers who can't chew up greens can swallow these power foods and not gag. The cellulose is broken down and the greens are so easily digested that they begin to assimilate even while still in their mouth." You might need to play with the greens amount to get the right amount of sweetness. I added more fruit to cut the greens taste and would use only milk or kefir, instead of water next time. Try strawberry, raspberry, peach etc. I adjusted it just a bit. -- posted by WI Cheesehead

Banana Colada (Non-Dairy Mocktail)

A luscious-looking drink for all you coconut lovers out there (like me!) who want something smooth and creamy, but don't want or can't have alcohol or dairy. I found this over at the World's Healthiest Foods site while browsing their recipe collection. This variation on the more traditional pina colada recipe is a good cure any tropical cravings you might have! You'll want to make sure to use ripe bananas for this recipe, as it will provide more flavor and sweetness that way. Also, make sure to use only enough liquid to keep the blender going. NOTE: Cook time is freezing time for the bananas. If you're like me and usually have leftover ripe bananas already in the freezer waiting to be used, this recipe is a snap to put together. -- posted by Lynne the Pirate Queen

I make these smoothies for my sons and I about 3 times/week. They like it in the morning with their breakfast, or just as an afternoon snack. I suggest adding the flaxseed meal for additional nutrients, as it's very hard to even tell it's in there and the benefits are outstanding! Also, I freeze all of the fruit that I use for this smoothie, giving it a nice thick, almost shakelike consistency. -- posted by DoubleA's Mom

Delicious Fruit Smoothie!!

I've never had much luck making smoothies until I threw this one together. It is ridiculously good for you, amazingly delicious, and super easy to make! However, my favorite thing about it is that you can store some in the fridge and it stays smoothie consistency for at least 24 hours (maybe longer, I haven't tried yet)! For the frozen strawberries and bananas, I freeze my own from fresh. I imagine the frozen kind you get from the store would work well too. You could try substituting other fruits or juices, but I can only guarantee the results with this recipe! -- posted by ramartin42

Delicious Organic Green Smoothy

When my breastfed daughter was around 10 months I started noticing something wasnt quite right, so I went to my Midwife & it turns out I had extremely low iron. Normal is 12 & I was at 7. She told me to be sure to eat my leafy greens, we'll in the hot humidity of South Western Florida the cooler your food is the better! This is so good, my daughter & I drink one every other day now & my iron level is up to a 13 after just one month!!! I can just imagine what its done for her!

I have tried many variations to switch it up a little, adding yogurt makes for a smoother texture (and the active cultures never hurt) Apple Juice can be substituted if you dont have OJ in the house. Mango (i used frozen to avoid the prep) Use your imagination -- posted by mrs.cubana

What a great breakfast replacement! easy and take it with you kinda shake. I don't like the taste of the regular plan protein powder shakes so this works well and taste great and doesn't kill your diet too much! If you don't want to use the milk then use all water. You can use less milk or all milk it is up to you and your diet of how much milk to use.
Banana Almond Date Soy Smoothie

This vegan smoothie is amazingly rich, creamy, filling, and healthy. It has a nice texture to it from the almonds and a natural sweetness from the banana and dates. I like that there is no refined sugar added or any animal products, all good for us and the planet. I like using a frozen banana to make the drink cold, but room temperature works well too. If you want to freeze bananas, peel them before freezing. Peeling frozen bananas doesn't work! And place them separated in the freezer so they don't freeze together. -- posted by Chef #1363287

Yogurt Breakfast Smoothie

I make one of these shakes for breakfast almost every morning. Sometimes I make extra for a quick snack mid-morning too. The intent of this is something filling, but healthy.

Sometimes I will sometimes mix in 1t of some kind of protein powder (e.g., whey powder) if I need the extra filling nature of protein. Be mindful of how much protein powder is added as it can make the shake very filling -- I used to to 1T but that was far too much.

As a note, I used to mix with a hand blender wand. I found that did not give the smoothie the same fluffiness, but it was passable. -- posted by John W

Berry Yoghurt Smoothie

I got this recipe from Sarah Owen's book "The Top 100 juices", published by Lifetime Distributers, Castle Hill, Australia.
Sarah Owen says "The super-nutrient vitamin C is needed for more than 300 diferent processes in the body, but it is easily wiped out by smoking, pollution and stress. Found in abundance in berries, vitamin C and other antioxidants help to quash the damaging free radicals that are associated with many illnesses."
The original recipe calls for natural bio yoghurt to be used, but any yoghurt will do.
This makes a large amount of smoothie, and if you're making it just for yourself, I'ld recommend halving it.
I hope you enjoy this healthy - but still tasty - smoothie :) -- posted by TALIA #3

Veggie Green Drink

I came up with this one night after a long drive from New York to Philadelphia. All I had eaten were french fries, so I was desperate to get some greens into me fast! This drink took care of the craving right away. The stevia helps to blunt the harsh taste of the veggies. If you want to make it a soup, use less water and perhaps add some spices instead of the stevia. Also, the yogurt can easily be omitted if you are vegan or have dairy issues; just use less water, -- posted by Jainene
