Filete De Culichi (Tilapia W Mushrooms in Poblano Cream Sauce)

This is a my take on a special dish that our favorite Mexican restaurant in our town - 3 Margaritas - makes for my husband and me. It is not on the menu, but since we love fish they made this for us once and now we get it often, as do our friends. We expect this to be on the menu someday soon. It is tender Tilapia sautéed with garlic butter, topped with mushrooms and smothered in a special Poblano Cream sauce and it is YUMMY! You could replace the tilapia with anything - another kind of fish, chicken, whatever... and it would still be great! Serve with rice and beans on the side and fresh flour tortillas for dipping! -- posted by Sooz Cooks

Oven Roasted Tilapia With Tomatoes, Pesto and Lemon

Looking for something impressive but oh so easy? This simple and delicious dish would make a great 'date night' dinner or even doubled for a dinner party. Tilapia is a really mild fish without that 'fishy' taste making this a great recipe for people who do not like fish and a wonderful meal for those who do! Pesto and tomatoes are so lovely and aromatic together and roasting allows the flavors to intensify. What a simple way to create an incredibly delicious dish. In order to soak up every delicious drop I would serve this over a simple rice like my Recipe#137364 or serve it with a good crusty bread. Adding a simple green salad and a wonderful bottle of wine would make this meal totally rock! I would serve it with Chateau Ste Michele Dry Riesling. I found this recipe on http://ellysaysopa.com/2008/03/03/fish-for-people-who-dont-like-fish/ Of course I did change up a few things that I thought would make it even better. My mouth was watering so much when I read this recipe that I had to share it with you as fast as I could! If you try this before I get to the store and am able to make it please let me know what you think! After Breezermom's helpful comment I edited the directions for the pesto and lemon juice so the pesto is not runny. Thanks breezer! -- posted by mama's kitchen

Super Simple Pantry Tilapia

This recipe is very simple to make and uses items that are found in most kitchens. Tilapia is a very mild white fish that can be found in many grocery stores, and often times on sale. If you aren't sure you'd like to try it or you can't find it, you can subtitute another very mild white fish. I think tilapia works best because it's a very light fish flavor that takes on whatever you season it with. I recommend a side of green veggie, like broccoli or brussel sprouts, and a mild wild and long grain rice pilaf. Healthy and delicious! -- posted by FoodieFoodie

Tilapia Corn Chowder

This light soup is a great way to slip corn and tilapia(of course)into your late-summer menu. Make it a meal; enjoy with a green salad & tomatoes a nice vinaigrette and of course oyster crackers. We made this soup and it was delicious! **However, the recipe said it was low in calories 288 and when zaar figured it out it came to be 324** Now, the question is - which one is right?
Smooch's Light Tilapia

Ahhhh, I just had to put my zaar name on this one. I finally came up wtih one heck of a recipe, in my opinion and wanted to share it. One night, I was tired of measuring stuff out and trying to find a new way to cook my fish, so I combined some of my favorite flavors and came up with this. I'm thinking I may add a bit of ground red pepper to it too for a bit of a bite. -- posted by SmoochTheCook

Fish With Figs, Bacon and Pecans

This recipe is by Jim Shirley, the chef at "Fish House" in Pensacola, FL. It was prepared at the cooking demonstration during the Seafood Festival in 2007. Everyone that got a taste loved it, and at the festival this year (2008), people were still talking about it. He used redfish, but you could also use any nice firm white fish, such as trigger, snapper, or grouper. *Please note...If you choose to use tilapia, reduce the fig mixture..the tilapia is not a firm enough fish nor is it thick enough to support these flavors as posted!. Generally tilapia fillets are much thinner than redfish, and the sauce will overwhelm it.* **Please note...most of the reviews have used frozen tilapia....this fish is not thick enough to support the flavors of this recipe....please reduce the fig mixture if you are using tilapia!** Of course, fresh always tastes better than frozen, so try to go fishing or to your local fish market if you are on the coast. Be prepared to enjoy this! It is delicious! -- posted by breezermom

This is a recipe that appeared on a card at my local ShopRite, and the card states it comes from a magazine named Simply Seafood.
Achiote Tilapia (Super Simple)

I just love the achiote seasoning found in the fish tacos in the Yucatan, so I decided to venture out and try to make the fish myself. . .success! Very simple too. I suggest serving with a squeeze of lime, a few slices of avocado and cilantro as a garnish. Adapted from a Ritz Carlton recipe in which they use this sauce to marinate whole red snappers. -- posted by JanuaryBride

Almond-Crusted Tilapia

This "Healthy in a Hurry" recipe came from Good Housekeeping magazine, September 2008. "Appealingly mild and lean, tilapia still has plenty of heart-healthy omega-3 fats. (Bonus: It is one of the least mercury-laden fish, and is also low in sodium.) Green beans and mushrooms deliver fiber and potassium, while crunchy almonds boast antioxidants."

I'd probably skip the oil and take my fats from extra almonds. -- posted by yogiclarebear

Light Flax & Oat Baked Tilapia

I came across a few breading/coating recipes online that used alternatives to flour. I've tweaked them a bit to come up with this, to add some more flavour and improve the texture. I'm happy with the results, a simple tasty fish with healthy ingredients and low fat. You could add whatever herbs or spices you like to the flax & oat base. I use my 'magic bullet' for this and it works really well! (have to justify that purchase after all!) Don't try to over coat these, it won't crisp up because there intentionally isn't much oil in this recipe. If your diet doesn't permit eggs you could omit them. Tilapia is quite wet anyway, the coating will still stick, of course not quite as well but I've tried it and it works. Serve this with #216546, brown rice and spaghetti squash for a healthy meal! -- posted by magpie diner

Pan-Seared 5-Spice Tilapia W/ Hot-Orange-Ginger Sauce

Spice rubs are the perfect way to jazz up mild-flavored fish and poultry. This rub - a blend of spices, herbs, salt, sugar and oil - transforms into a falvorful crust when cooked. Here we brushed the tilapia with a combination of Chinese Five-Spice Powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and oil. A purchased blend of Chinese Five-Spice Powder or one you have made is great - either one will work. CuisineAtHome.com: Issue 73 February 2009 edition.
Quick Baked Tilapia With Grapefruit Dill Butter

This literally takes minutes in the oven. Tilapia (an inexpensive fish, but you can add some great flavor to it), fresh grapefruit and dill make this dish absolutely wonderful.
Serve this with some oven fries or fingerling potatoes and some fresh oven roasted zucchini planks, just with olive oil and fresh herbs is perfect. A light fresh dinner. For those who love the light tart taste of grapefruit this is for you. I prefer a nice ruby red grapefruit for this, but a white grapefruit will work fine, it will just be a bit more tart. -- posted by SarasotaCook
