Milky wholesome Pancakes

The best tasting pancakes I've ever made. This Finnish version is soooo comforting: it uses more eggs and milk than the pancakes that I am used to. It uses very few ( and inexpensive ) ingredients and is relatively easy to make. This is definetely a brunch winner in my house. The recipe is from The TorontoStar. -- posted by Izzy Knight

Carrot Rolls

Here's a very traditional Finnish bread recipe. Typically this would be made into rolls, but no reason you couldn't make it into a loaf too. It has a great orange-yellow colour and a mild carrot flavour. It's from my trusty baking book Suuri Leivontakirja - Kotilieden parhaat leivonnaiset. -- posted by kolibri

Finnish Carrot Pancake With Cranberry Sauce

Here is a recipe for a very tasty and colourful meal. Serve this for 'Brunch', or for a main meal serve with potatoes and coleslaw, or cucumbers in sour cream (try "Jolean's Cukes in Sour Cream Recipe #121834" by Stacky5LRC - it's very good). You can make the sauce in advance, or use store bought Cranberry sauce if you’re pushed for time. The Finnish name for the carrot pancake is Porkkanapannukakku, for the Cranberry Sauce it’s Karpalokastike. This Recipe was originally posted for Zaar World Tour 2005; and it's being dusted off again for Zaar World Tour 2006. I still haven't got round to making the sauce, but at least I can tell you the pancake works a treat! -- posted by Mrs B

Sima - Finnish Mead

Sima is a sweat mead that is an essential seasonal brew connected with the Finnish Vappu festival. It is usually spiced by adding both the flesh and rind of a lemon. During secondary fermentation raisins are added to control the amount of sugars and to act as an indicator of readiness for consumption — they will rise to the top of the bottle when the drink is ready. Sima is usually accompanied by munkkeja or Tippaleivät (donuts and other pastries). Mead is ready after 2-3 days. -- posted by NcMysteryShopper

Frozen Festive Vodka or Tequila Bottles With Herbs and Berries

Another GREAT Jamie Oliver recipe, and one that I am preparing for New Year's Eve! Jamie says you can use any spirits or liquor, but he suggestes vodka and tequila in his recipe. These bottles look SO festive and pretty, I plan to use holly, berries, bay leaves, fruit slices, ivy and woody herbs for my bottles this year. DO check that the liquor bottle fits INSIDE the plastic water bottle first! This recipe idea for serving liquor originates from Scandinavia. (Prep time is for freezing the bottles.) -- posted by French Tart
