Cheese and Rosemary Breadsticks

Vegan Potatoes

A simple recipe for people who are vegetarian and/or transitioning to vegan. Theres not a lot of vegan recipes on here, so I decided to post it. It's something simple that's a good thing to have for lunch or even as a side dish. It gives a lot of nutrients and you really cant taste them in with the potatoes, for those of you who are picky eaters like me. I left his really open, I put in peppers and mushrooms, but this recipe is very easy to turn into a "Clear Your Kitchen Of Unwanted Or About To Spoil Veggies" recipe. And it's good because it's healthy, filling, and uses no meat and or animal products. Enjoy. -- posted by Mariah Me

Cabbage With Caraway

This is my mother's recipe - I don't know where she got it from. It is a great way to cook cabbage, which leaves it slightly crunchy and tasting delicious. Nothing like the awful boiled cabbage you remember from school!

Cabbage is very good for you, as it contains anti-oxidants, vitamin C and all sorts of other things.

Try this as a vegetable with chops or burgers and plain boiled potatoes. You can use leftover cabbage and potato to make Bubble and Squeak. -- posted by SarahEmmm

Deep Fried Broccoli

This recipe was originally written for cauliflower, but I had just purchased a mixed bag of fresh broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower and decided to try it with the broccoli and cauliflowerl.
Wild Rice, Cherries, Apricots and Cheesy Stuffed Acorn Squash

Easy nice comfort food. Acorn squash stuffed with wild rice, cherries, pecans and a creamy cheesy topping. I prefer a blend of wild and white for this, but you can really use any rice if you don't like wild rice. And hey, this is the time to take advantage of the boxed rice. Uncle Bens is what I use, but there are many brands available, and I just use the quick cooking kind, but any will work. My favorite is to serve this with roast chicken, but if you want something lighter ... serve with a fresh green salad topped with roasted pears. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Pan Roasted Asparagus With Red Onion and Bacon

Published in Cook's Illustrated, March-April 2007. The recipe recommends using asparagus that is at least 1/2-inch thick near the base. If using thinner spears, reduce the covered cooking to 3 minutes and the uncovered cooking time to 5 minutes. Do not use pencil thin asparagus; it cannot withstand the heat and overcooks too easily -- posted by swissms

Portabello Bowls With a Warm Spinach Potato Salad

Want a nice twist as a side dish? This is a bit healthier, but still very satisfying. It takes my favorites from a spinach salad; spinach, warm bacon dressing, mushrooms, onions, and add some diced potatoes to make it more of a warm potato salad. All stuffed inside a portabello. I enjoy to serve this dish with pork tenderloin or some roast chicken. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Truffle-Scented Mushroom Risotto

Lebanese Rice With Sharia (Vermicelli) (Gluten Free)

This is similar to the rice served at our local shawarma restaurant without the gluten noodles. This is a rice that can be dolled up replacing the water with some kind of broth, adding onion fried until transparent in butter after cooked or even adding a hand full of pine nuts all depending on what you are serving it with but plain it is excellent with chicken cooked with Recipe #44858. -- posted by UmmBinat

Cheese & Butter Green Peas

Have kids who hate green peas? Well, everyone seems to have that problem! I randomly added cheese & butter to my green peas (despite being a lover of peas) and it tasted great! In fact, at the end of the day, I got more sick of the cheese than peas. Amount of cheese? One slice. (: This is even for the health-conscious...enjoy! For me, I can polish off the whole thing, but to be on the safe side serve this for two. (: You can do this for just about any vegetable, in particular non-leafy ones like carrots & peas. -- posted by Chef #1531879

Sweet Somen Noodles

I add this to the somen noodles I serve my Taiwanese Spaghetti recipe with for a little extra sweetness. These delicious cheese toasts have a nice zip with the mustard and worcestershire sauce along with a hearty helping of cheese. They are perfect dunkers for soup especially the soup above as you feel like with the two it is a burger on a bun. Easy to make and fast to make. Fun looking and unique. Enjoy!
Spicy Coleslaw

I am a single woman living on my own. When I come home from work the last thing I want to do is slave over a hot stove or spend hours making dinner. I need quick and easy options. I try to utilize as many "convenience" items as I can in order to help spend less time in the kitchen and more time relaxing. I like to keep the condiments from takeout and fast food places if I think I can use them for something else. I like to experiement with recipes and make them simple. This has to be one of the easiest recipes I make. The only thing that might be a problem for some people who want to make it, is you need to be near a Chick-fil-a. I use their spicy dressing. I don't normally like typical coleslaw dressing, so this is my little spin on it. I also like to double and even triple the recipe up for family bbq's and potlucks at work. Feel free to add your own items that you like....diced red onion, julienned bell peppers, etc. That's what is so great about recipes, you can make them your own. Enjoy! -- posted by Chef #188403
