Super Spritz Cookies

I got this recipe from the Super Shooter Idea Book. After trying different recipes, this one's my favorite. I think the rich flavor comes from the three egg yolks. I recommend using butter rather than margerine. It really gives the cookies that special flavor. -- posted by Linda N

Ingram's Old Fashion Sugar Cookies

This is a recipe from my grandmother's kitchen. My mother has made these for Christmas every year since I was a child (over 30 years now) and every person that has tried these think that are delicious!

Icing the cookies is a family tradition and is one that is fun and can take some time so be sure to set a couple hours aside to do so. Although it can take time to icing these cookies it'll be well worth the work in taste and family fun. Enjoy! -- posted by Chef #1362592

Best Rum Balls (America's Test Kitchen)

This recipe is from Christoper Kimball of Cook's Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen. It makes about five dozen rum balls that are intense, fudgy, chewy, complex, and balanced. Recipe can be halved or doubled. Plan ahead, since these are best when left to mellow for at least a few days in the refrigerator. They keep very well and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a couple of weeks or frozen for up to a few months. Cooking time is refrigeration time. Use vanilla for a non-alcoholic version (sometimes called moon balls). -- posted by blucoat

Ed's Sugar Cookies

This is my husband's recipe and it has withstood the test of time. These delicious cookies are light & airy and fun to decorate. My husband is the Sugar Cookie king in our family and our grown kids still anxiously ask each year if Dad is making sugar cookies this Christmas :). Ed prefers using insulated cookie sheets. Yield and baking time may vary, depending on rolled dough thickness, the size of the cookie cutters and oven accuracy. NOTE: Chilling time is included in prep time. Overnight refrigeration is best, but if you are in a hurry, you can get by with chilling the dough for at least two hours. Do not skip the chilling step or the cookies may not hold their shape. -- posted by Kat's Mom

Cranberry-White Chocolate Shortbread

I've been making these cookies for a few years now and they have always been a hit! They have a very nice presentation and seem like they are much more difficult to make than they are, not to mention they are very tasty too. They are also very easy to make - I usually substitute a bag of white chocolate chips for the Baker's chocolate to make it even easier. -- posted by Chef #578080

Creamy Cheesecake With Pecan Crust and Sour Cream Topping

This was one of the first cheesecakes that I learned to make, and it set the bar pretty high. The pecans in the crust give it an extra special touch, and the sour cream topping adds to the "wow" factor. This cheesecake needs to chill in the refrigerator at least 2 hours before serving, which is not reflected in the preparation time. It can be prepared up to three days ahead and kept in the refrigerator. -- posted by JackieOhNo!

Jazzbow Cookies

This is the recipe of Anna Bosnjak, cherished neighbor and mother of four wonderful daughters.

It's a traditional Christmas Cookie brought to America by Croatian and Serbian Immigrants. Unfortunately it requires a special jazzbow cookie mold that is prized by their owners and handed down from generation to generation. I believe you could use any 1/2 inch deep mold if needed. -- posted by Chef #1482258

Gingerbread Train - Works Well With a Gingerbread House.

This is a great gift idea, fairly simple to make and loads of fun to decorate! You can paint on letters on each carriage to form a name or just do an extra long train to have at a birthday party. Great addition to gingerbread house(s) to make a whole gingerbread village!
**I use self-raising flour for this as it makes a more "bubble-like" 3D train but you can use plain.** THIS RECIPE MAKES GOOEY GINGERBREAD not hard!** This will make a very long train!! -- posted by JinxTheCat

Ruth Reichl's Sweet Potato Pie

A simple and delicious pie from Ruth Reichl's memoir, "Comfort Me with Apples". It's great as is and is also a very flexible recipe that you can adjust to your preference. You can substitute brown sugar for white, omit the rum or use bourbon instead, or increase the vanilla or spices.
Recipe can be doubled for a deep-dish pie. (The cooking time will be nearly doubled as well.) -- posted by blucoat

Better Butter Cookies

Rolled sugar cookies to die for. My friend, Claudia, gave me this recipe. She rolls hers very thin and recommends checking them after 5 minutes. She also recommends using parchment paper. Prep time does not include 3 hours of refrigeration. The number of cookies depends on the size of your cutters. -- posted by teachingchef

Best Glazed Butter Cookies (America's Test Kitchen)

The geniuses at America's Test Kitchen have created tender, crispy cookies that roll out easily. Cream cheese—a surprise ingredient—gives the cookies flavor and richness without altering their texture. For a dough that's incredibly easy to handle, this recipe uses the "reverse" creaming method: incorporate slightly softened—not melted—butter into the flour and sugar (rather than first creaming the butter and sugar).
If desired, the cookies can be finished with sprinkles or other decorations immediately after glazing.

Flaky Pie Crust

This recipe makes two (2) pie crusts, and freezes VERY well. This recipe can be made by hand, or using a food processor. (I make mine by hand since I do not own one). Please make sure not to overprocess the ingredients, as this will result in a very tough crust, not tender and flaky as it should be! The key to a flaky crust is to have all the ingredients COLD when you start. I like to put everything (flour and all) in the freezer for up to 30 minutes before I start. You may also use 1 cup of vegetable shortning, or 1 cup of non-dairy butter, instead of 1/2 cup of each. I prefer using a mix of the two! -- posted by Kozmic Blues

Pesche - Italian Peaches Cookies

Labor-intensive, but well worth the effort. These cookies are typically only served at weddings or special holidays because they require a gathering of women to increase the rate of production and the fun. My cousins and I spent countless holidays sneaking into the freezer to snag a tasty frozen peach. Finally, we convinced my nonna to teach us how to make this special peaches and we have enjoyed making them ever since. They freeze well and are actually better if frozen immediately and taken out when needed. These are meant to be enjoyed with many friends and family and they NEVER disappoint. In fact, after living in Italy for two years, I learned that my nonna's peaches were better than any I could find in Italy. I think some recipes have been corrupted by modern conveniences, but my nonna's recipe has not changed since she immigrated in the 50's. -- posted by Chef #1491707

Secret Kiss Cookies

This cookie recipe is sooooooo good. The finely chopped walnuts add a richness to the cookies. The original recipe called for rolling these cookies in powdered sugar after they cool down, but honestly these cookies don't need the powdered sugar and are certainly less messy to eat without the sugar. -- posted by Linda N

3-Layer Fudge Cake With White Chocolate Mousse Filling

I was looking for a beautiful, rich cake to make for Christmas this year and this was exactly what I was looking for! I found this recipe online and it originally came from Bon Appetit. I wanted something chocolate and peppermint to go with the season. It turned out to be the best cake I've ever made! My family wants it to be a tradition for me to make this cake every Christmas from now on. I hope it turns out just as wonderful for you as it did for me! It takes time but it is well worth it. The cooking/preparation time does not include the hours it needs to cool in between. -- posted by BrinaBear

Liz's Peppermint Kisses.

You will love these for Christmas. My dad taught me this recipe, if I can do it (I have lousy hands...lol), you can do it. How did I get the sprinkles and dragées to stick? I used a thin coating of brown rice syrup that I painted on with a small brush (brown rice syrup is a liquid sweetener made from brown rice, that is just about half as sweet as sugar). Serving size really depends on how big or small you make them, I put 20 as an estimate. Have fun and enjoy!!! -- posted by .Liz.(Daddy's little Chef)

Chocolate Christmas Trees

I guessed at the number of servings. -- posted by *Kathy*

Sugar-Crusted Popover Puffs

David Lebovitz was asked to remake Maida Heatter's wonderful popover recipe. They are the best the day they're made; leftovers can be stored in a container and snacked on the next day(they are still good). You could freeze them in zip-top bags as well. these work well in standard muffin tins. Feel free to use salted or unsalted butter.Adapted from David Lebovits's recipe in The New York Times and Maida Heatter's Great Book of Desserts. -- posted by Sharon123
