Rice Cooker Scrambled Eggs

Why not use the appliance that sits in the cabinet for more things than the expected. When you have guests this is a great way to make eggs and keep them warm for when people get up in waves. Good for a buffet breakfast too! Might also be a great way for the dorm kids to make their own breakfast? -- posted by Tish

Hangtown Fry

Legend has it that a 49'er hit a glory hole, an incredibly rich pocket of gold nuggets. He walked into the El Dorado Hotel restaurant in Hangtown, now Placerville California, and asked the waiter what was the most expensive item on the menu. The waiter answered that would be one of three things, oysters, which were tinned and shipped all the way from Boston, Bacon, which was scarce, and Eggs, which were also scarce. The prospector answered, fix them all on one plate and bring it to him. So was born the 'Hangtown Fry'. If you've never tried this delight, please do so. Elegance can be complicated but it can also be simple. In this case it's simple. -- posted by Pierre Dance

Horseradish Potato Salad

From Coastal Living. I confess this isn't my kind of recipe (I have an aversion to mayo and I don't eat bacon!) but my husband loves horseradish AND potato salad. This one's for him. I add a couple of thinly sliced radishes to give the salad a little color (paprika is nice, too). Watch your potatoes when you cook them. Mine would've been mush if I had cooked them for 30 minutes! -- posted by Vino Girl

Bacon-Cheese Pull Aparts

11/2005 Each bite is filled with breakfast flavors! You can taste the bacon, cheese, mushroom and green-onion flavors. Originally, this was a Pillsbury Bake-Off 41 (Hollywood,2004) recipe submitted by: Terri Barton of Salt Lake, Utah. It has been noted by one reviewer - that this dish should be used as a side to breakfast or brunch. Update: 07/21/2008. . . . . . . made this again for supper as I like to serve a light meal - we added more fresh mushrooms, we added more green onions, some pimentos and of course more eggs & bacon. :) -- posted by Manami

Potato Lattice Pizza

From the Pillsbury website and introduced to me by Richard-NYC. I didn't use the frozen roasted potatoes listed in the ingredients, and instead roasted diced potatoes and onions that had been tossed with some olive oil, garlic and Italian seasoning to include in this pizza. Serve with a fruit salad for breakfast, or a tossed green salad for lunch or dinner. Could also be cut into tiny squares and served as an appetizer. This is an absolute carb-fest. -- posted by ms_bold

Southern Belle Croque Madame

French fare with a Southern accent! I came up with this after seeing a version of the sandwich made by Rachel Ray. A traditional southern breakfast (bacon, eggs, grits) is one of my favorite meals - anytime of day. I figured, why not assemble it in a whole new way?

Made with sliced/fried polenta (instead of bread), and apple-wood smoked bacon (in lieu of ham). Creamy, cheesy, w/bacon & white gravy - I mean, a bechamel sauce - to boot!

(Note: if you want larger "sandwiches", slice the polenta lengthwise instead of into rounds.) -- posted by Kathi Ann

Bacon, Egg and Cheese Quesadillas

Came up with this when I didn't want a regular breakfast biscuit. Cooking bacon isn't included in cooking time. If you want to save time, and a step or two just mix in the cooked bacon with the eggs before you scramble them. Heat level of salsa is Chef's choice. Don't be put off the long list of directions, it's easier than it looks.
The Full Monty - F E B - Full English Breakfast

A fine British tradition - and a meal to set you up for the day; there is a saying in the UK that goes like this: "breakfast like a King, lunch like a Queen and have supper like a pauper"! So, what does a typical full English breakfast consist of? One recipe in an Edwardian Cookbook listed a plethora of ingredients that would have graced the table of many a stately home at the turn of the century, to include 7 courses! A modern day FEB is likely to consist of the following: two sausages, two or three rashers of bacon, fried eggs, fried bread, tomato and lashings of mushrooms with black pudding and brown HP sauce to taste. In finer establishments you can even expect additional courses such as cereal, porridge, kippers, toast and jam or marmalade, kedgeree, or devilled kidneys.
Rumour has it that the term 'The Full Monty' is used to refer to these type of breakfasts because Field Marshal Montgomery was rather partial to them. Here is my basic recipe for an FEB, with optional extras! Grill or fry your FEB - and make sure you have acres of hot buttered toast and gallons of English Breakfast Tea! I am NOT suggesting this is what you should eat every morning - but it is a wonderful treat for the weekends, holidays and just when you feel like it. -- posted by French Tart

Sfoglia's Spaghetti Carbonara

From Martha Stewart’s show by Ron Suhanosky – the very same recipe he uses at the critically acclaimed Sfoglia restaurants in NYC and Nantucket. Authentic Carbonara using the simplest of ingredients, including black pepper (thus the “carbon” in carbonara!), egg yolks, and parmesan cheese for the sauce – no cream! So fast to make, and so good to eat!! The actual recipe uses diced guanciale (cured smoked pork cheek) in place of pancetta, but pancetta or thick-sliced bacon would work just as well. Serve with a crisp salad, crusty bread, and a glass of wine for a complete dining experience. -- posted by MamaJeeper

This is an omelet I created when I worked as a breakfast chef at a nice golf course. I hope the name doesn't offend anyone, but it seems appropriate considering the ingredients! I estimated the time it would take to prepare, but it is all relative to your skills, your equipment, and what type of Hollandaise sauce you use.
Traditional Egg and Bacon Pie - or What You Will!

Quick to prepare with ingredients that are readily available and most probably on hand, this recipe certainly qualifies as being traditional Aussie 'tucker'. Unlike most C21st Australian recipes which reflect the diversity of modern Australia's multi-cultural society, this recipe is clearly British in its ancestry. Adapted from a recipe from the Simply Great Recipes website. If you want to give this recipe a more C21st multi-cultural touch (I've already aimed to do this by adding garlic and capers), I'd suggest adding some feta. Probably far too radical a suggestion for those who love traditional Egg and Bacon Pie just like grandma used to make! Basically, do with this recipe What You Will! -- posted by bluemoon downunder

Potato, Bacon and Sauerkraut Patties

Try this for breakfast: creamy mashed potato, with tangy Sauerkraut and smoky bacon in a pattie! Adapted from a recipe on the Simply Great Recipes website. The original recipe is obviously an Edgell recipe and listed in the ingredients 1 cup (100g) Edgell Instant Mash. Zaar would not accept this as an ingredient, so I have replaced it with 2 cups of mashed potato. If you do track down - or regularly use - Edgell Instant Mash, the step now removed from the instructions is "In a medium bowl combine the Edgell Instant Mash and 1 1/4 cups of boiling water". To use canned instant mash would obviously be a time-saver! Depending on whether cream or milk has already been added to the mashed potato, you may like to add some in step 2. -- posted by bluemoon downunder

Seven Rivers Hogmanay Scotch Eggs

I'm proud of my Scottish heritage, as well as my love of food (heck- I'm a Midwesterner!) This named for the Seven Rivers Highland Society here in St. Louis, MO, and for Hogmanay- a truly Scottish celebration!

Scotch Eggs were invented in London by Fortnum & Mason, a food shop, in 1851- apparently in a "Let's pretend to be Scottish" craze. Silly sasenachs! But the name stuck, as did their portability. Some call these "picnic eggs", some call them "savory eggs" (using chopped eggs) but these are a great item to bring to the office pot-luck, that will leave your co-workers raving!

I first tried Scotch Eggs at the Missouri Tartan Day Festivities a few years ago. I was hooked and when I finally saw how easy they were to make I mastered them! And searched the world over for variations! And the one I liked was the one from The HandMade Scotch Egg Company in the UK. Alas, we can't get them here- but here is my version of one of theirs. If you go there, avoid the pre-packaged ones at Tesco's, Sainsbury's and the ilk as those are horrid! And when you can get them here, some are poorly made, and served with a lack-luster approach as an "appetizer". Yet, these are an easy and unique way to take a quick breakfast out the door to work and can eat this in the car with one hand and no mess! Yep- Portability!

The key I learned to making any type of Scotch Egg is the quality of the sausage! If you use the low-priced, "discount" stuff, you will end up with holes and gaps in the outer sausage shell. Go for Jimmy Dean, R.B.Rice, Johnsonville, or your favourite one. My daughter loves making these, and everytime we have taken them to a pot-luck lunch, or just something different.

Bacon and Horseradish Deviled Eggs

Come on,you know that sounds good! I developed these after attempting to overcome an addiction to bacon and horseradish dip I developed on my recent trip to the States. You can even make these vegetarian by using the Bacos bacon bits that are made out of soy instead of the actual bacon. The recipe can be scaled up pretty easily for bigger crowds. Also, this is one of those times when I am not totally clear on how to translate an ingredient from UK to US. I used what is called 'horseradish sauce' here in the UK. Which, I remember being somewhere in between prepared horseradish and horseradish cream in the States. So, I put one but you can probably use either. -- posted by Sarah_Jayne

Fennel, Pea and Broad Bean Salad

We had this salad as an appetizer at a diner party. My friend Samantha told me it was a Gordon Ramsay recipe. I am not a big Ramsay fan but think this salad is fab!
Becky's Grandma's Egg & Spinach Salad

This delicious salad was served at a party and I asked the hostess, Becky, for her recipe. This was from her Grandma. The original recipe called for 16 ounces of spinach (torn), and only 6 slices of bacon. I have listed the recipe as Becky prepared it, she used about 2 1/2 bags of baby spinach and 18 slices of cooked bacon. The salad will get too weepy if left sitting too long, so plan to eat it all right away, this doesn't keep well once the dressing has been added. When I made this, I used a 250 g bag of baby spinach, about 8 strips of bacon, half the dressing, and I still used the 3 eggs. -- posted by HeatherFeather

The Aussie version of bacon & eggs is interesting because it's served with a side of baked beans. We were skeptical at first but really enjoyed the compliment they afforded the eggs & bacon. We used Bush's baked beans in original style for this recipe. Very delicious & we felt like it was a heartier breakfast than with just bacon & eggs.

Kate's Quiche Lorraine Souffle Style Extreme Variations

I invented these extreme variations of Quiche Lorraine at the end of ZWT5 based on Karen Elizabeth's Recipe #299242 #299242, taking advantage of the unique ingredients I had bought over the tour. Each variation I tried and pictured was great in its own way. Next time, if I had piperade sauce on hand (Julie B's Hive's Recipe #233205 #233205), I might add that on a wedge. The measurements for toppings are for 1 choice of topping to cover the entire quiche. Choose 1,2,3,4, or 5 toppings, and make a decorative pattern, allowing small wedges to be cut of this rich quiche. If available, Pillsbury's refrigerated pie crust works well (do not prick or pre-bake) in a glass deep-dish pie plate. I recommend very small wedges (12 servings), this is very rich. Serve with a side salad with vinaigrette dressing. -- posted by KateL

James Beard's Pate De Campagne Provencale

A classic recipe I came across in NOLA's recipe archive. Perfect for holiday entertaining. Needs to rest refrigerated at least 8 hours after baking so plan to make the day before serving. It will be hard to resist since it will make your home smell so good. -- posted by Buster's friend

Spaghetti a La Carbonara

This recipe comes from *Joy of Cooking* where it is called "Spaghetti with Egg and Cheese." Written for American audiences at a time when pancetta was virtually unavailable, it calls for bacon instead. Actually both are delicious -- just different -- so I'd try it with each and make up your own mind. Not the healthiest thing to eat, but some good as an occasional treat! -- posted by L'ecole

Flamenco Eggs

Swirl of red, green, yellow, and white like the colors of the dancer's skirts. Feel free to replace the tomatoes with whatever seasonal vegetables you have on hand. Part of the garnish is megis. Migas is rough chopped bread-crumbs from stale bread, then fried in oil and drained on paper towel. -- posted by rickv
