Garlic Crab

This is a simi difficult recipe, but the result is ever so delectable. I had something like this at Crustaceans in San Francisco. They used the wonderful Dungeness crabs, but here in Virginia I had to settle for Blue crabs, which turned out just as nice. -- posted by Jessica

The Best Seafood Salad

I looked through all of the seafood salad recipes on here and although they all looked delicious I thought that I would try making my own with some ideas from the other seafood salad recipes that I seen on here and this turned out excellent. I could not quit eating it. You can add more or less of the ingredients as you like and you can also add grated cheddar cheese to it which is also wonderful. I added the cheese and bacon which is optional but very good without it as well. -- posted by Gingerbear

Linda's Seafood Pasta Salad

I love the flavors in this pasta salad with the addition of the lemon, shrimp and Old Bay Seasoning! I often substitute whole wheat pasta in this dish... I also double the mayonnaise, Old Bay seasoning and lemon, adding half when I initially make it, then just before serving I add some more, so it isn't dry after sitting in the fridge for flavors to meld... Sometimes I just double up on the shrimp or the crabmeat instead of using both together... Either way, this recipe is a KEEPER for sure! -- posted by Linda's Busy Kitchen

Crab Cakes

This recipe is slightly altered from Amanda Hesser's Grandmother's Crab Cake recipe. It is featured in her book "Cooking for Mr. Latte". She doesn't suggest any sauces to be served with this, as 'she likes them plain so you can taste the crab meat'. My first ever batch of crab cakes, from this recipe, were absolutely fantastic. Prep time includes sitting time. -- posted by s'kat

Crab Cobb Salad with Caramelized Pecans

Unlike the one-person Cobb salads at restaurants, here everyone serves him/herself from one big beautiful bowl (though you can of course arrange individual salads, if you prefer). The crab, bacon and avocado make a fantastic combination, the carrots are a colorful, light alternative to shredded cheese, and the caramelized pecans are to-die-for, especially with the blue cheese. YUM! Serves 4 as main dish, 6 as side salad. -- posted by quantumgirl

Crab Pasta Louis

Crab Salad Louis, a San Francisco classic, makes an elegant first course or luncheon entree. Use frozen lump crab meat for the fanciest presentation or canned flaked crab meat for a more economical version. If you have leftovers, mix them all together, and keep in the frige. the next day, after all the flavors combine and mingle, it is fabulous, but not as attractive.
The cornbread gives this a Southern flair. You can use this base to make a variety of patties. = Salmon is my favorite, but I've made them with pretty much whatever I had on hand. Great for leftover salmon or even chicken. If you don't have leftover cornbread and don't want to make it, you can use breadcrumbs, or crushed crackers. You can also omit the potatoes if you don't have any. -- posted by little_wing

Classic Old Bay Crab Cakes

***Update: This is the Crab Cake recipe used for building the Nutty for New England Naughty but Nice Crab Burger for one of the challenges in the Spring 07 Zaar Tour world!

I have lived most of my life near the Chesapeake Bay and spent many summers in Maryland as a child. This is the original recipe that was on the back of the Old Bay can. This version contains baking powder which helps make the crab cakes light and fluffy. We have always added a little lemon juice and browned them in butter which I feel really brings out the flavor and absolutely makes these. Try refrigerating the shaped patties 30 minutes to help keep them together when cooking,
This is a Summertime favorite of ours served with Corn on the Cob and Coleslaw! -- posted by Little Bee

Being from Maryland, I know very well homemade crab soup. This is not that recipe. This is a very quick crab and tomato soup recipe that is used to finish extra crab meat off. Being a base recipe, please use this to be creative with, adding or subtracting ingredients and adjusting seasonings for you and your families enjoyment. I haven't used canned crab in this recipe, but feel free to try it! -- posted by Andi of Longmeadow Farm

All Saints Summer Supper Maryland Crab Cakes

I grew up in southern Maryland, and attended All Saints Episcopal Church, where my parents are still members. Every summer (1st weekend in August) the church hosts its Summer Supper fundraiser, which I consider a southern Maryland tradition, since folks come from all over to eat some great food (ham, fried chicken, green beans, fresh homemade bread, rolls, and desserts, and, oh yeah.. CRABCAKES! This is an adaptation of the recipe used at the supper, so that the yield is something reasonable for a family dinner (as opposed to the hundreds of crabcakes made by the fine folks at All Saints!). Of course, I have added my own touches over the years, but it's still pure "Maryland Crabcake". -- posted by Special Ed

Fresh Corn and Crab Chowder

I adapted this recipe from a camping cookbook, Simple Foods for the Pack, by Claudia Axcell, Diana Cooke and Vikki Kinmont. Originally almost all the ingredients were dehydrated (except for the canned crab) so that you can just throw them all in a ziplock and heat them in camp with water. This is probably a great idea for OAMC, but this recipe is also very fast to put together if you haven't made it ahead. I had it on the table within half an hour from start to finish, and that included time to cook the potatoes in the microwave.
This chowder is very rich even without any dairy in it, and obviously you could make it vegetarian without the crab. -- posted by kitchengrrl

Portabella Mushrooms Topped With Crab Imperial a La John Shields

A personal favorite! This is very close to the appetizer served at John Shields' restaurant at the Baltimore Museum of Art called "Gertrude's," which started me on this chase. Some people say everything is better with bacon; I say everything is better with dry sherry! At Gertrude's, John Shields further reduces the butter/sherry liquid to create a thick pool on the plate on which to place the stuffed mushrooms; if you prefer to do that, use 4 tablespoons butter to saute the bell peppers and chopped mushrooms. And if the only crabmeat you can get is the pasteurized canned crabmeat, this recipe gives you your best shot at making it taste GOOD. From "Chesapeake Bay Cooking with John Shields". Note: In Maryland, crab-stuffed mushrooms can resemble a crab cake sitting atop a mushroom cap "plate"; do not picture a mushroom cap with scant filling, that's not our style. You do not want the taste of the portabello mushrooms to overwhelm the crab. -- posted by KateL

Crab Cakes from Maryland Governor's Kitchen

Diet-conscious Eastern-shore style, showcases the natural sweetness of Blue Claw Crabs with the minimum of filler and extra ingredients. Derived from MIL's newspaper clipping, her favorite crab cake with minimum of spice. This was from Maryland Governor Tawe's cook. For saltine crumbs, may substitute 2 slices of decrusted white bread broken into small pieces, or use 1/4 cup panko crumbs. I dared to vary from my mother-in-law's crab cakes by substituting saltine crackers for the traditional white bread and then serve her a "renegade" cake; this one variation was deemed by her as possibly better. She sneered at the addition of Old Bay seasoning. It is vital to have freshly steamed blue claw crab meat to achieve superior results. If you are not so fortunate as to live between North Carolina and Pennsylvania, and you use Phillip's crab meat from Costco, be aware that you are using Asian blue swimming crab which lacks the sweetness; in that case, I would recommend adding 1/2-1 teaspoon dried horseradish and 1/2-3/4 teaspoon lemon juice to add some pizazz. I find that canola oil "falls off" the crab cakes, and prefer frying my crab cakes. Preparation time includes 1 hour refrigeration prior to cooking. -- posted by KateL

Angelina's Restaurant Crab Cakes - Maryland

This is the original as it appeared in the "Baltimore Sun" as a recipe request, recently. This was also printed many years ago, but has made a new a recent appearance again paralleling the closure of "Angelina' and subsequent auction of the restaurant. With the sale of the restaurant this crab cake recipe goes along with it.
History as follows from Angelina's website. "In 1952, Angelina Tadduni and her family began a neighborhood Italian restaurant in a row home in northeast Baltimore. Building upon its local popularity, Bob and Carole Reilly purchased the restaurant in 1968 and added several essential features to the Angelina's legacy. Among these were a renowned Irish pub (the first to serve draught Guinness in Baltimore) and the finishing touches on the celebrated crab cake recipe.

The success of this signature dish made Angelina's name famous far beyond the old neighborhood, and the crab cakes began accumulating a list of awards too lengthy to include here. Visitors from across the country came to Angelina's seeking the best known crab cakes in a city best known for crab cakes." "This recipe is straightforward and unadulterated and what you will get are authentic Maryland-style crab cakes. The real key to making good crab cakes is the use of top quality crab meat, and very little filler as possible. It's equally as important to be very careful with the fragile lumps, as you don't want to break up the lumps that provide the best formed crab cakes you will ever see, and without over-mixing. Enjoy this recipe as this is a Baltimore staple, and what a tradition it is. -- posted by Andi of Longmeadow Farm
