I'm not sure where I found this recipe, maybe Gourmet or Bon Appetit. -- posted by hipQuest

Authentic Cypriot Taverna Brandy Sour Cocktail

These were without doubt the most popular drink that we served in the restaurant I ran in Cyprus! They are known as the National Drink of Cyprus, and are delicious as well as being very refreshing. We used to make these with the local Cypriot brandy, which is not as strong as normal French brandy or cognac and has a delectable caramel taste to it. We also used the local angostura bitters, known as "Cock Drops", which as you can imagine, brought raised eyebrows and howls of laughter from overseas guests and tourists! A little history behind the cocktail: The Cypriot Brandy Sour style was developed following the introduction of the first blended brandy made on Cyprus, by the Haggipavlu family, in the early 1930s. The cocktail was developed at the Forest Park Hotel, in the hill-resort of Plátres in the beautiful Troodos Mountain range, for the young King Farouk of Egypt, who often stayed at the hotel during his frequent visits to the island. The Brandy Sour was introduced as an alcoholic substitute for iced tea, as a way of disguising the Muslim monarch's preference for Western-style cocktails. The drink subsequently spread to other bars and hotels in the fasionable Platres area, before making its way to the coastal resorts of Limassol, Paphos and Kyrenia, and the capital Nicosia. With increasing numbers of tourists visiting the island in the last thirty years, and the large garrison of British servicemen stationed on the island, the Cypriot Brandy Sour is now known around the world. This is how we used to make them in our restaurant - a trade secet shared!! -- posted by French Tart

Hooch Party Punch (Fruity Rum Booze-Cruise Type Concoction)

This is a terrific recipe for "hooch" party punch. This drink is reminiscent of something you'd have on a booze-cruise in the Islands or something. It's fruity and contains rum and what could ever go wrong with that??? This recipe is great for large crowds or a summer party, picnic or BBQ as it makes a good amount. This recipe is compliments of my dear Sister-in-Law who serves it in one of those big orange Gatorade jugs with a spigot at every summer gathering - think they also whip up a batch to bring out on the boat too... It's good stuff, I'll say that! ** Note: you may see white flaky tiny specs in the punch from the Coco Lopez - that is normal ** Also, you MUST use Sailor Jerry's Spiced Navy Rum, it's what makes it. Sailor Jerry's is a 92-proof blend of Caribbean-style rum with hints of vanilla, lime, cherry, cloves, cinnamon and other spices." You must also use Goya brand nectars as listed below. Enjoy!! :-) -- posted by BlondieItaliana

Starburst (Cocktail)

If you want to make a refreshing cocktail by the pitcher ... try this one. It is a combination of my Recipe #299834 as the base, then adding a tad more Citron Vodka and some juice. Tastes familiar, kind of like the pink starburst candy. They go down way too easy, but everyone loves them. ;) A New favorite with my DH. -- posted by Vseward (Chef~V)

Blonde Sangria

When I lived in Spain and we had "office parties" I was always asked to bring the Sangria. While most Sangria is made with red wine, I like white better - we had one called Diamante, mmm. After tweaking the recipe each time, I think it's a really good one now. Since I'm a blonde, they called it blonde Sangria made by La Rubia! -- posted by Laurita

St. Vincent Rum Punch

I spent quite a bit of time living on the island of St. Vincent in the West Indies and picked up this Rum Punch recipe from the Grand View Hotel there. I cut the ingredients in half as the original recipe was for a huge quantity. Also, the amount of rum and water was unclear. I interpreted the rum to water ratio as 1 part rum to 2 parts water since the original recipe does not quantify an actual amount of either. If you use a normal size bottle of rum and double the amount for the water, you should be fine. It takes a few days to make, but is definitely worth the effort. -- posted by Green Cuisine

Lemonade Syrup - the Easy Way

This recipe makes an intensely flavoured syrup from just the quantity of lemons you have on hand. No messing about with fixed measurements.

We were working in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa for a while and our rented house had a lemon tree that had bushels of lemons. We were told about this recipe by locals.

Its almost too simple but it really works!

The quantities shown in the ingredients are only there to give you an idea. The real measures you work out from the directions. -- posted by The Dabblers

Milk Punch

Different from others on the site. This is from Food & Wine 2001 and the note above the recipe states that "In Guys and Dolls, Jean Simmons and Marlon Brando drank their milk punch by Havana moonlight. Off the silver screen, this drink is more commonly served at brunch or as a morning after pick me up. Feel free to vary the amount of sugar to taste, but do keep in mind that unlike daquiris or Mai Thais, milk punch should be relatively sweet." This has no nutmeg and uses rum. -- posted by Oolala

A Jamaican recipe made by Sunny Anderson on Cooking for Real. Some reviewers on another website recommend adding a twist of lime at the end and decreasing the amount of sugar from 2 cups down to 1 cup (but I will leave those choices up to you). Sunny also said that she has added vodka to this beautiful, bright green juice for a wonderful adult cocktail. -- posted by JanuaryBride

Cointreau Fruit Punch

While looking thru my holiday recipes, I came across an old favorite. Totally forgot about this one. I'm adding it to my beverage collection so I don't forget it again. This makes a great Adult Punch. I've made an ice ring with the cranberry juice in a jello ring and add it to the punch before serving. Keeps it from getting watered down and looks pretty in a punch bowl. This has Contreau in it, but you can use OJ or even Triple Sec. Whichever you prefer. Half the recipe for 4 servings easily. -- posted by Vseward (Chef~V)

Prohibition Classic Cocktail

You can add some soda to this if you need to, but this is no bathtub cocktail! During Prohibition you cannot waste your time drinking a lighter drink. Lillet is a blend of rigorously selected wines and fruit liqueurs, aged in oak vats for around 12 months. Lillet Blanc has a golden color with candied orange, honey, pine resin, lime and fresh mint aromas. This is the stuff in the James Bond cocktails like the Vesper. -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Prohibition Party Punch

This recipe is from an old cookbook I found. Homemade wine or beer was legal as long as it contained no more than one-half per cent alcohol. From Every Woman's Cook Book by Mrs. Chas. F. Moritz (1926) p. 617. If you can find a bootlegger in your area, I think some rum or whiskey would really perk this up. This recipe makes a LOT! Please keep this in mind when preparing this party punch for your local Speakeasy :) -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Cranberry Cornucopia Sangria

Adapted from "Peterson's Holiday Helper," by Valerie Peterson (Clarkson Potter, 2008). This is a blend of all the favorite holiday flavors, not really a true sangria. You can use a sparkling cider or grape juice, or even a champagne if you'd like to. Cherries are an excellent addition to this drink as well. This is best left to sit for overnight to let the flavors blend well. -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Pink Palace Punch (With or Without Alcohol)

I made this yummy pink punch for my daughter's 5th birthday party last year. We had a Princess theme. It was a big hit with everyone. For the adults, you can just add a little rum or vodka directly to their glasses and stir. Malibu Rum is especially good in this. I made fruit punch ice cubes which looked really pretty floating around in the punch. -- posted by Realtor by day, Chef by night

Ruby Relaxer - Ruby Tuesday Copycat

This light and fruity drink is perfect for sipping on a summer afternoon. An undeniable girly drink (not to say that guys should not enjoy it as well), it has no taste of alcohol, nor the cloying aftertaste that some overly sweet drinks have. This recipe can easily be multiplied to make a crowd-pleasing punch for your next shower, party, brunch, etc. The brands listed are those that Ruby Tuesday lists on their drink menu (how nice of them to tell us what is in their drink so that we can come home and make it ourselves!) -- posted by Oenophilly

Tropical Passion Rum Punch

This recipe came about one day when we had an interesting juice in the house, a great thirst and a desire for something a little different.
This is definitely not for the kids.
The name came from the location...we live in Jamaica (Tropical), and the colour...sort of a purple which comes from the pink of the Juice and the blue in the curacao (Purple passion) and the possible outcome....
This is a no fooling around Rum Punch..approach with caution and enjoy.

Please note: I used Guava-Pineapple Juice which has a pink colour, but any combination of tropical juices Mango with Pineapple etc. will work. The pineapple seems to be key. I use Appleton's Rum because it is Jamaican and great Rum. -- posted by Donalda

Lavender and Strawberry Fruit Cup from Wolds Way Lavender Farm

A boozy lavender fruit cup made with vermouth, herbs and fresh strawberries! How good is that! This is another gem of a recipe that I discovered on a recipe card from Wolds Way Lavender Farm in North Yorkshire, England – which is just 10 minutes from my parent's cottage. The delicately flavoured drink is the perfect way to unwind after a long, hard day........It is almost better than Pimms, and, as Pimms is my favourite summertime tipple, that is really saying something!
White Sangria

Fresh, sweet and fruity - goes well with tapas or as a light cocktail, I even drink it with paella! Slightly different from the traditional one which calls for red wine, but I just can't drink red wine when it's too hot outside, so I tried with white wine and it turned out just as great.

Frozen Festive Vodka or Tequila Bottles With Herbs and Berries

Another GREAT Jamie Oliver recipe, and one that I am preparing for New Year's Eve! Jamie says you can use any spirits or liquor, but he suggestes vodka and tequila in his recipe. These bottles look SO festive and pretty, I plan to use holly, berries, bay leaves, fruit slices, ivy and woody herbs for my bottles this year. DO check that the liquor bottle fits INSIDE the plastic water bottle first! This recipe idea for serving liquor originates from Scandinavia.
This is a delicious, nonalcoholic fruit punch that gets color and sweetness from the cranberry juice, a fizzy flavor from the club soda, and a pleasant fruity taste from the pineapple juice. -- posted by The Homeschool Chef
