Virgin Berry Mojito!

The mojito is a cooling effervescent coctail inspired by Havanas's blithe lifestyle in the 1920's. While Hemingway's Cuba is long gone, it's spirit lives on in the sparkling blend of sugar, mint and lime. Adapted from the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Caribbean, Mexican, Southern, and Western. -- posted by Sharon123

Pat's Cuba Libre Highball

This is a fast, tasty highball that I love. I've been making these for years. In the 1930s, John O'Hara used to mention these in his novels. I'm sure that Ernest Hemingway drank a million of them! RC Cola works much better than Coke for this one. This is listed under "cocktails" but it's really a highball, only using one liquor. Enjoy! -- posted by Bone Man

Puente Punch

Recipe by Cyrus Keyhari from "A Denim & Cocktail Guru's Mexican Fiesta" F&W Magazine, 01/2008 edition. A fantastic dessert drink, this creamy cocktail is named after the late timbale-banging band leader Tito Puente, who popularized Latin music around the world. Cyrus Keyhari uses aged Dominican rum to give depth to what he calls "a grown-up Orange Julius." Vegetarian and fast. -- posted by Manami

Coquito - Traditional Recipe (Made With Egg Yolks)

A delicious rum-infused Latino beverage enjoyed any time of year, but in particular, around the Holidays... Similar in type to egg nog, but way more delicious!

This recipe comes from my husband's friend's wife, Linda. The recipe is for larger servings (party-size) so you will have to adjust for portions desired.

Also, some tolerance is required as you must stir constantly over low flame as to not cook the egg yolks -- also, allow time for prep. & cooling when factoring your time, other than that, the recipe is pretty easy... those are just a few cook's notes FYI. -- posted by BlondieItaliana

Hooch Party Punch (Fruity Rum Booze-Cruise Type Concoction)

This is a terrific recipe for "hooch" party punch. This drink is reminiscent of something you'd have on a booze-cruise in the Islands or something. It's fruity and contains rum and what could ever go wrong with that??? This recipe is great for large crowds or a summer party, picnic or BBQ as it makes a good amount. This recipe is compliments of my dear Sister-in-Law who serves it in one of those big orange Gatorade jugs with a spigot at every summer gathering - think they also whip up a batch to bring out on the boat too... It's good stuff, I'll say that! ** Note: you may see white flaky tiny specs in the punch from the Coco Lopez - that is normal ** Also, you MUST use Sailor Jerry's Spiced Navy Rum, it's what makes it. Sailor Jerry's is a 92-proof blend of Caribbean-style rum with hints of vanilla, lime, cherry, cloves, cinnamon and other spices." You must also use Goya brand nectars as listed below. Enjoy!! :-) -- posted by BlondieItaliana

St. Vincent Rum Punch

I spent quite a bit of time living on the island of St. Vincent in the West Indies and picked up this Rum Punch recipe from the Grand View Hotel there. I cut the ingredients in half as the original recipe was for a huge quantity. Also, the amount of rum and water was unclear. I interpreted the rum to water ratio as 1 part rum to 2 parts water since the original recipe does not quantify an actual amount of either. If you use a normal size bottle of rum and double the amount for the water, you should be fine. It takes a few days to make, but is definitely worth the effort. -- posted by Green Cuisine

Green Tea Mojito

We've all heard of the health benefits of green tea these day, haven't we? Yes we have...thus I will dare to rationalize my little cocktail as being healthy in my mind! LOL. The flavor of the green tea is apt to get lost with the strong flavors of the rum and lime so resist the urge to add more of these ingredients. I recommend Tazo Zen Green tea blend as I think it has enough umph to stand on its own here. Original idea came from the Mellow Monk. Adapted to suit my tastes. -- posted by Kitchen Witch Steph

Summer Berry Mojito

If you don't keep simple syrup on hand just use a 2 tsp. of sugar to muddle with your mint.If you don't have access to fresh berries, frozen will work as well.

While crusading around the Caribbean when his stock of whiskey ran dry (which he always drank with mint and a little sugar water), Sir Francis substituted rum for his whiskey and the mojito was born." Officially, however, Cuba claims to have invented the mojito in the teen years of the 20th century. It was one of Ernest Hemingway's favorite libations when he visited La Bodeguita in Havana.
Doctor's Cave Bathing Club in Montego Bay is renowned both for a beach considered one of the best on Jamaica's North Coast and for waters fed by a network of underground rivers that reputedly have healing powers. Since 2001, the club's claims to fame have been bolstered by the Groovy Grouper, a spirited bar and restaurant located smack on its sands. This is actually the exact recipe that I got from the restaurant for the original Pina Colada. It is recommended that you use Bacardi rum as it is from Puerto Rico as well (we visited the distilllery that same day). I did not include the freezing time.

From the CaribSeek recipes...posting for Zaar World Tour 5...'Dem French 'ting real sweet! by Rosemary Parkinson. The islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe are colonies of France and because of this strong influence together with the natural integration with the people of African descent on the islands, the culture is unique.
Naturally, the language is French with a Caribbean flair, the people have European sophistication mixed with island savoir-faire, the food is exotic and the music a mixture of everything tantalizing.
Both these islands have a lot to offer visitors and I have always enjoyed my visits there. -- posted by Lazy Chef 2

Bahama Mama

This is a great summer drink from Dale Degroff (The Essential Cocktail) that will go by the pitcher! This recipe is by the glass, though, for sipping on the patio. If you don't have all four rums, you can improvise by doubling up (I would recommend making sure to use dark rum and coconut rum, however). Angostura bitters really make the drink, but could be left out if you don't have them (usually found in the tropical drink section at a supermarket or liquor store). -- posted by Ames Shaps
