The Ultimate Apple Crisp

The best apple crisp I've ever had. Simple and delish. I adapted this recipe from my mom's. It's very easy to make- the hardest part is peeling the apples. -- posted by Chef Acosta

Yankee Apple Crisp

This is a simple, homey, comfort food that everyone seems to love. I adapted this in the late '70s from a recipe I found in a Yankee Magazine Cookbook. If you like lots of topping add half again or double it (double is pretty sweet). This is the perfect recipe for potlucks and parties as you can make it ahead, and it travels well. I love it for breakfast with a hot cup of coffee or tea. -- posted by momaphet

My Definition of ' Easy' Apple Cobbler

This recipe spawned from a can of apple pie filling, a long week, no milk and a craving. I looked high and low on the site for a recipe that truly looked easy as I was dog tired and nothing that I found had the ingredients I wanted or liked, and I wanted a completely covered pie like top without all the work of making a pie crust. This is the result, enjoy! I would think you can substitute other pie fillings, but the extra stuff in the filling mix may need to be adjusted/omitted. This recipe works best if put in an 8" round glass dish produces a thin cobbler and enough topping to coat it completely without a lot of fuss trying to make it stretch. For anything larger I would at least double or if you like more filling, just double those ingredients. Goes great with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top! -- posted by Michelle_My_Belle

Sugar Cookie Apple Crisp

In this version of apple crisp, prepared sugar cookie dough is used to create a chewy, crispy, sweet and all-but instant topping for the classic fall dessert.

And there's plenty of room for improvisation here. If you like your crisps with large chunks of topping, skip the food processor and oats. Simply break off clumps of dough and scatter them over the apples (or pears or a blend).

The cookie dough also could be adulterated with all manner of add-ins, from candy bits and chocolate chips to dried fruit or nuts. With the exception of nuts, add-ins are best mixed into the dough and oats after processing.

For speed and ease, this recipe calls for prepared cookie dough (the sort found in the grocer's refrigerator case), but if you have the time homemade dough would taste even better.

And when serving, don't forget the vanilla ice cream. After all, milk and cookies go so well together. -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Apple Cranberry Crisps - Chatelaine

I found this recipe in of all places....the Air Miles magazine. Turns out it's from Chatelaine magazine. This is baked in individual serving sizes, but I expect it could also be made in a 9 or 10 inch casserole dish. Either way...nothing says comfort quite like a fruit crisp. This one especially. Would be wonderful to top off your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. I used orange juice in place of the liqueur. Use Granny Smith or any other firm apple because of the long baking time. Individual serving dishes should have a 1-1/2 cup capacity. Oh....don't forget the whipping cream on top ;) -- posted by Diana #2

Brown Sugar and Oatmeal Crumbly Apple Bars

I haven't tried this yet, but with all the apples falling from my tree in my front yard, I had to post it to make sure my shopping list this week includes rolled oats, which I usually don't have around. This just sounds like the best thing to make for my two voraciously hungry boys, now that the Sacramento heat is being tempered by those cool Delta breezes of autumn.

I ran across this recipe from the wonderful food blog Prudence Pennywise at http://prudencepennywise.blogspot.com/2008/09/brown-sugar-and-oatmeal-crumbly-apple.html. Please see the original recipe post for her fantastic photos.

Estimated Cost: $4.00 for 12 bars

Note: These taste wonderful warm out of the oven, but they hold together much better if you wait till they're cool. -- posted by lawmama

A nice, easy and quick recipe for those times you need a dessert in under a hour.
Apple Crumble from Kraft

The secret ingredient to excellent crumble? Nilla Wafers. I received an email this morning from Kraft Kitchens and this recipe sounds interesting. I went to the website, www.kraftfoods.com and here is what one reviewer had to say about this recipe: " I made this last night while my husband was at work. I tried it and thought it was pretty good. This morning, I put some in two ramekins for my husband and I. I added two caramel cubes to each serving, cut in half. I reheated it at 350 for 10 minutes. It was awesome! I don't know why it was better this morning, but I think it's bc it got to sit a while overnight." KRAFT KITCHEN TIPS: Special ExtraTop each serving with 2 Tbsp. thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping.Variation Prepare using 8 (4-oz.) custard cups. -- posted by senseicheryl

Tart Apple Crisp With Stevia

I have been eating a lot of apple crisps lately and have tweaked my recipe to suit my taste. I have reduced the amount of butter and now am reducing the amount of sugar so that I could eat more apple crisp with less guilt. Hey, the apple, lemon, whole wheat flour, oat meal are all good for me. I only substituted the Stevia for the sugar in the apples, not the topping because I want to make sure the topping gets brown. -- posted by Nado2003

The mix of flavors and textures was interesting and made a great finish to a zippy meal. Next time I'll add some more cinnamon though as the peanut butter overwhelmed it." I may take that into consideration when I get around to trying this! :-) -- posted by senseicheryl

Caramel Apple Crisp

Recipe from Pillsbury. Baking apples are best. I would use something like Granny Smith, Cortlands, Jonathans, Empires, Yellow Delicious, Honey Crisp, Ida Reds or Winesap (Winesap are my favorite and are usually found late season during October). I would avoid such apples as Red Delicious or Macintosh. They are great for eating but fall apart when cooked. And one of my secrets is to make a blend of baking apples, so the flavors are more well rounded and less one dimensional. Some apples, such as the Granny Smith, have that nice bite to them but are short on sweetness other apples have and aren't that great by themselves. -- posted by Sue L

Apple Crumble

Crumble is so cheap and easy to make - and it's the perfect pudding now the weather's turning colder. The big, big rule is never add the sugar to the crumble until the butter is rubbed into the flour. The reason is that the sugar and butter will cream - that means mix together, a bit like a sponge mixture, and the crumble will be heavy and more like pastry. So gently mix the sugar through with a spoon at the end - then just pour over the cooked apple. Do not pack it down: leave as light and fluffy as possible. -- posted by English_Rose

Apple Cinnamon Cobbler-Ish Dessert

This isn't a true cobbler, but it is a similar recipe. Using cereal makes it a little faster to prepare - be creative and try whatever kind of cereal you have! Any kind of flake and/or nut cereal will work, Think Nut N Honey, or Oat Clusters. I'm not a raisin fan, but Raisin Bran would probably work well, too.

I've tried three different flavors of yogurt (blueberry, blackberry and vanilla), and each was wonderful. I just grab one little container of whatever's in my fridge that week and use it.

The apples: Again, I've tried different varieties. I usually buy Fiji or something tart; I've used both, and they both work well.

Almost all of the 15 minute prep time comes from peeling and cutting the apples. After that, it comes together incredibly quickly. -- posted by lildebbie77

Manzana Crocante ( Apple Crisp)

This recipe is a form of apple crisp that I have made since I was a teenager. It is the only one I use and it consistently tastes good...no matter what type of apples are used.
I have substituted Splenda sugar for both the brown and white sugars called for in this recipe and it comes out tasting just as good, although the 'crisp' part has a little different texture to it, but not bad. I only recommend using real butter in this recipe. This is the type of comfort food that you can have a big bowl of, climb back into bed, and eat under the warmth of the comforters when it is freezing cold outside....I love it!
I usually double the recipe and freeze one dish for use later. Just thaw in refrigerator and reheat if you want it warm. -- posted by MemphisMommy

Apple Flapjack Crumble

Sweetening the apples with apricot preserves and orange juice makes it twice as fruity and adding a little syrup to the oaty crumble makes great little chewy clusters. You could use pears, plums or a mixture of winter fruits. A handful of blueberries is also good with the apples. -- posted by English_Rose

I am soooo having a blast with making up new recipes. I just made an awesome one this afternoon. I used Arrowroot in this. You can find it in the natural section most likely and it works like cornstarch as a thickener but healthier for you than cornstarch. I am going to try making a pie with this mixture and give it a pecan pie shell with crushed pecans that have been browned in butter and cinnamon. I think it will come out nice. -- posted by RawwGurl

Decadent comfort food. That pretty much says it all. The sweetness of the fruit and sugar goes very well with the bite of the blue cheese.
Country Caramel Apples Around the Campfire

Here's a recipe that is sure to draw some oohs and aahs from your favorite diners! An easy-to-make, simple way to end the day while camping or on the back deck. The hardest part is coring the apples. Try stuffing the core with other melty sweet treats: chocolate caramels, cinnamon Red Hots, Lemon Drops, Gummy Bears. Oooohh...! The original recipe came from the Lutheran Girl Pioneer Camping cookbook. COOKING TIME DOES NOT INCLUDE getting the fire or grill coals going. This is a good recipe to put on as the fire is dying down---or AFTER you've pulled the meat off the grill--while you're eating supper. These will cook all by themselves while you're eating! -- posted by Debber

Amazing Apple Cobbler

A friend of mine gave me this recipe several years ago after she brought this
wonderful dish for a potluck. When I made it at home, my mother was so
impressed, she called my aunt to tell her about the recipe. Well, we were surprised to learn that my aunt already had the
recipe and has used it for years- she got it off of a bag of Martha White flour!
The original recipe calls for 2 cups of sugar, but we like it best with 1 1/2
cups. This isn't as hard to make as it sounds....promise :-) -- posted by Jesse and Eliza's Mom

Colorado Mel's Apple Cranberry Crisp

This recipe is delicious. Our family really enjoys tart fruit desserts, so the recipe below reflects that. If you prefer yours a bit sweeter then you should use a sweeter apple or add another half cup sugar to the fruit. One thing I love about this recipe is how versatile it is! I'll switch out what fruit I'm using just based on what I have on hand. Yummm! This is also a healthier "Crisp" recipe than the average. There is more fruit and less crisp... I enjoy the taste of the ratio as well as the lower fat content of the ratio. ;) Try it- I bet you'll enjoy it! -- posted by Colorado Mel

Sheila's Best Apple Crisp (No Oats)

This is the apple crisp from my childhood (there is no oatmeal in the topping). If I could only pick one dessert to make the rest of my life, this would probably be it. Mom always made this in her beautiful copper au gratin pan. I bought the same pan when I got married, just so I could make this dessert. Originally from the 1966 version of the "Woman's Day Encyclopedia of Cookery", Mom adapted it slightly over the years (with a little help from Cooks Illustrated I think). Cutting the apples into "cubes" (instead of slices) helps the apples keep the apples firm throughout. I have made this with pecans or walnuts. I have also made it without nuts. I like it best with pecans, but all versions are yummy!! I love it warm or cold. You can serve it with ice cream, but I usually only do that for dinner parties. -- posted by Mrs Goodall

Inside-Out Apple Crisp

This is based on a recipe for baked apples in Mark Bittman's cookbook (How to Cook Everything) but adapted to include something akin to the topping for an apple crisp. Because it's mostly apple and only a little bit of the "crisp" (which isn't really crisp, by the way), it's a a lower-calorie version that's easy to throw together for a satisfying dessert. -- posted by dirtgirl

Healthified Apple Crisp

I found this on EatBetterAmerica.com and it sounds really good and also has several great reviews on that site. I'm thinking I may include this heathier option with my Thanksgiving deserts this year. I think I might peel the apples though. -- posted by MarlaM

Cranberry Apple Cobbler

This is an awesome autumn or holiday dessert and simple to prepare. The cobbler is outstanding served with vanilla ice cream. When ready to serve, put a big scoop on top of each bowl of warm cobbler. Yum! -- posted by I <3 Cookbooks
