Potato & Cheese Latkes With Apple-Pear Sauce

I found these online about 6 years ago and never posted them. What I like is that they are savory and a combination of both cheese and potato. The potato-cheese latkes prep time = 15 mins & frying time = 10 mins per batch. The apple-pear sauce prep time = 10 mins & cooking time = 20 mins. While there is nothing like the traditional applesauce and sour cream, here's this variation - easy to make and tastes great!!!!;) -- posted by Manami

Lemon Curd pie with a sweet biscuit base, This was my Nanna's Mums recipe, Nanna used to make it for me every school holidays when I would go and stay with her. It was a real treat. Be careful not to stop stirring the curd whilst over the heat as if it begins to stick it will change the taste completely.
Cranberry-Clementine Sandwich Cookies

I LOVE sandwich cookies & have plenty of cranberries & clementines in the house so this cookie is going to be on Christmas platter. The curd & dough need chilling in the fridge - which is great for me as I like breaking the task up (dough day then baking day) so it stays fun.
Orange Polenta With Orange Balsamico Sauce

I saw this in a tv cooking show in 2002 and scribbled the recipe down. It was meant as a side for some kind of veal which I don't remember, but I mostly serve it with salmon. For reduced stock, reduce 2 cups of chicken stock to 1 cup by simmering. In place of pecorino you can also use parmesan cheese. -- posted by Mia in Germany

This recipe is from Cooking Light. Delicious and fancy enough for the holidays. This recipe uses Riesling, but for a nonalcoholic version, substitute sparkling white grape juice. Make up to a day ahead and refrigerate. Dip the covered mold into a bowl of warm water for 5 seconds to make the salad easier to unmold.
Pomegranate-Lemon Warmer

Pomegranate juice is so healthy, yet rich enough that only a small amount is needed to make a soothing, tea-like beverage. The lemon adds extra health benefits, if fresh squeezed.
Frozen Festive Vodka or Tequila Bottles With Herbs and Berries

Another GREAT Jamie Oliver recipe, and one that I am preparing for New Year's Eve! Jamie says you can use any spirits or liquor, but he suggestes vodka and tequila in his recipe. These bottles look SO festive and pretty, I plan to use holly, berries, bay leaves, fruit slices, ivy and woody herbs for my bottles this year. DO check that the liquor bottle fits INSIDE the plastic water bottle first! This recipe idea for serving liquor originates from Scandinavia.
Crab Balls With Grapefruit Salad

Crab Balls with Grapefruit Salad Recipe by Jean-Georges Vongerichten The crab and grapefruit in this dish first appeared at the restaurant Spice Market tossed with cold glass noodles. Jean Georges Vongerichten decided it was a "messy pile," but liked the flavors, so he reconfigured them into crab balls rolled in panko (Japanese bread crumbs) and sesame seeds. The side salad is a fabulous mix of tart (grapefruit), spicy (Thai chile) and sweet (ginger syrup). ;) F&W Magazine, From: Jean Georges's Best Small Plates, Published, July 2006 edition. 2 hr 20 min freezing and thawing time. -- posted by Manami

Florida Keys-Style Citrus Chicken

My family loves citrus with chicken and this recipe not only uses the juice and zest of oranges, but lemons and limes as well. Chicken breast halves are browned in olive oil and butter, simmered in a citrus juice flavored with honey, fresh thyme, garlic, and ground ginger, and then topped with orange segments and chopped chives. The taste and aroma of this Florida Keys inspired citrus chicken dish will explode in mouth-watering delight.

This flavorful citrus sauce works equally well with fish or pork. -- posted by Feast Your Eyes!

La Provence's Bourbon Old Fashioned

In November 2009, my husband and I were delighted to be able to have Sunday brunch at Chef John Besh's restaurant, La Provence, in Lacombe, Louisiana. We fell in love with everything we ate that day, and I purchased a signed copy of Chef Besh's cookbook "My New Orleans". Our waitress was wonderful; the manager was personable & friendly. We even chatted with the head chef, Erick Loos IV, and he signed my cookbook, too. We also had a wonderful drink - an Old Fashioned. Unfortunately, the recipe for this drink was not in the cookbook. So I emailed the restaurant and they graciously sent me their recipe. We cannot wait to go back! -- posted by Kat's Mom

Sarasota's Lemon Pepper Vinaigrette

A great light peppery dressing. The key is good peppercorns for this. You can use a blend which I like or just black peppercorns, but a blend really enhances the flavor. Mix up the whole batch and will easily stay in the fridge for 3-4 weeks. My favorite is to serve this over Arugula with shaved onions and olives. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Roast Duck With Orange Sauce - Canard a L' Orange Julia Child

It was near my husband's birthday when a dear friend gave me two ducklings. Michael loves duck, so I asked him how he wanted them fixed. This is my adaptation of Julia Child's recipe for Duck a l'Orange. The ducklings were a perfect one serving size, 15 ounces, and 17 ounces. The recipe that I had, said that a 5 pound duck would take 1 hour and 30 minutes. Since ours were just about a pound each, they only took 25 minutes. Thank you, Jenny! -- posted by Sweetiebarbara

Avocado Clementine Breakfast Salad

I'm not an ordinary breakfast eater (by North American standards). I like savory dishes and soups and all kinds of interesting things for breakfast, but rarely enjoy sweet cereals or toast. My family thinks I'm insane, but I don't care. In any case, this particular salad appealed to me one morning so I threw it together and it turned out delicious. Prep time includes time to boil egg. While egg is boiling, cut all the rest of the ingredients and it comes together in a jiffy. This works well using Catalina/French style dressing as well. -- posted by Cookworm

Tip: If you want to prepare this dessert but skip the alcohol, substitute 1 Tbsp lemon juice for the liqueur and omit boiling the sauce in step 4.
Rab Torte (Rapska Torta)

It is believed that Rab Torte was served for the first time in 1177. when Pope Alexander III, escorted by his ten galleys, was overtaken by a storm as he was crossing the Adriatic, and took cover under the cliffs and in the harbors of Croatian island Rab (and town), and thus by a quirk of fate arrived in Rab just after the renovation of the Cathedral of the Assumption, which he consecrated on the occasion. In order to enhance this unexpected ceremony and to express their respect, nuns of the Benedict order served him cake on the host – Rab cake. The original recipe for the first Rab cake is kept in the archives of the Benedictine abbey of St. Andrew on the southern coast of island Rab.
Lemoniest Lemon Squares

These are the best lemon bars I've ever tried. They have a fabulously buttery crust, a not too sweet or too tart curd-like lemony filling, and a thin chewy top. The recipe is from San Francisco pastry chef Emily Luchetti's cookbook, "Classic Stars Desserts". With more than a cup of fresh lemon juice, the lemon flavour is really pronounced, the filling sets up real well and the dusted sugar makes for a beautiful presentation.

NOTE: The squares can be made a day in advance, covered and refrigerated. Bring to room temperature before serving. Dust with confectioner's sugar before serving. -- posted by blucoat

Harissa-Spiked Houmous

This recipe is delicous -- for a nosh, cocktail party or just an evening snack! I love these kinds of appetizers because they don't take much time, this one is vegan -- so almost anyone can eat it. I like to serve them with Pita Crisps: preheat oven to 375ºF. Split 6 pitas hrizontally into circles, then cut each circle into 6 triangles. Lay them in a single layer, rough side up, on 2 or 3 baking sheets. Use a pastry brush to brush triangles with olive oil, then sprinkle with fennel seeds and a pinch of sea salt or instead of fennel and sea salt use Mrs Dash salt free seasonings. For example: Table Blend, Original or Garlic & Herb, these have a flavor all their own -- try it you might like it. These can be made about a week ahead, just store in airtight container. -- posted by Manami
