Super Bowl Chili

I created this recipe over 20 years ago and still get request to make it for family and church get togethers ever few months. It's the easiest and least expensive chili you will ever make, and you will always get rave reviews. The recipe can easily be doubled and tripled. -- posted by chicagorob

Football Season Chili

Tis the season of rabid football fans everywhere. We have several who frequent our home during the sport. I cook this up, leaving to visit my friends who aren't so rabid, letting the " boys " talk, scream, cheer and boo to their hearts content. They lick their bowls clean, then when I come home I rewash their messes. I also put out a supply of tortilla chips and regular flour tortillas for the dippers and chili burrito makers that gather. An eclectic group my DH hosts throughout the season. Please adjust any seasonings / amounts to your taste. FYI, the cottage cheese is set out for the one's who like the spicy, hot, cold combo. -- posted by peachez

Nan's Chili

This chili is great with or without beans. I prefer without, but my family prefers with. It's an adaptation of Wic Fowlers chili mix. I measured the ingredients one time and added my own touches to change the recipe to our taste. You can speed up cooking time using the pressure cooker for 15 minutes. -- posted by PanNan

Georgia Chili

I have tried many chili recipes, trying to find one that suits our family's taste. This is it! I found this in my 1970 Southern Living cookbook. My family doesn't like spicey chili, so I only add 2 teaspoons of chili powder. I have noted my other changes in the ingredients. I leave out the shortening to cut the fat and we aren't big on a lot of celery in our food, so I cut it down to one stalk. This is the only chili that I make now. Prep time is approximate. Servings are generous, so you may be able to serve more than six with this recipe. I freeze leftovers. -- posted by keen5

This is that good chili with steak strips instead of hamburger meat. Can also be made if you have leftover steaks from a BBQ.
Pork Chile

I've been making chili for about 5 years now for Sunday football games. I've played with the recipe week to week, and have settled on this as my final recipe. I recently switched to ground pork, and think it makes a better chili than ground beef. The key here is lots of cumin. I add a lot of the cumin at the end of the boil to retain it's aromatic qualities. -- posted by med

Chili for a Big Bash

This is one of the dishes I made for a big crowd that will be partying with us on the Fourth of July. (You can cut the recipe in half or you can freeze for a latter day).I used venison but you can use lean beef. Venison is very lean. I use small cubed pieces of meat as well as ground. Gives it more texture. But its melt in your mouth cubes of meat. It really does melt in your mouth. All the different ingredients blend together to give you a nice spicy almost 5 alarm chili. I used Goya beans which are not to be rinsed. Check your cans most do need a rinse. The picture shown is one serving and topped with grated cheddard cheese, sour cream, and Salsa Verde recipe #84339. -- posted by ~Rita~

Firehouse Buracho Chili

Despite the name, this not a *hot* chili; rather, it's full of flavor (and a rich, beautiful color) from pure ground New Mexico and Ancho chile powders.
Chicken Chili

This is adapted from Ian Garten's "Parties" cookbook. I made it for a Steeler's playoff game 2005. They won, so it has good luck. It was nice to have a chicken-based chili rather than beef after grubbing on so much bad-for-you snacks. As Alton Brown says, "when you realize 'chili' is about the chilies it will all come together for you." -- posted by Gay Gilmore

White Chili (Football Soup)

This recipe comes from The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery in historic Kimmswick, MO. My daughter named it "Football Soup" because we always make it when we have a crowd over watching the game after church! Incredibly easy, freezes beautifully, and my bean hating husband even loves it. I add an extra can of green chilies for more flavor. You can make it without the chicken for a cheaper meatless meal, and you can make it without the monterey jack cheese for a low-fat, less thickened soup (but the cheese adds a lot of flavor!) -- posted by Tornado Ali

A few years ago, I had the best chili I ever tasted at Earle Estates Meadery on Seneca Lake. I knew they had made it with honey, so I decided to experiment and see what I could come up with. I think this is just as fabulous, and it's so quick and easy. I bet even meat eaters would have trouble figuring out that it's made with TVP instead of beef. It's a very mild chili, so add some heat if that's the way you like it. -- posted by Kree

Beef Chili

This chili recipe is simple to make and strong on flavor. It was adapted from a recipe found in Texas Home Cooking by Jamison and Jamison. I would highly reccomend using a homemade chili powder, but a store-bought one can be used, if needed.

This is an excellent dish to make ahead of time and reheat before serving.

The heat of the dish can be increased or decreased by adjusting the amount of chili powder used. -- posted by E. Brooks

Clyde's Famous Chili

From the Washington, DC restaurant's website. My husband loves chili and this is one of his favorites. On the website, this is described as: Sweet and slightly hot, this saloon-style Chili has been a staple on Clyde's menu for over 30 years. Liz Taylor would order it by the gallon and have it shipped to her house! Since we no longer offer our chili in the can at Britches clothing store, it's only fair that we give you the recipe that has been top secret for many years. *Note: the light chili powders have more of the hot seeds or flakes ground with the pods. By using more of the dark chili powder, our chili is a little sweeter. -- posted by Oolala

Sweetpea's Chili

This chili recipe took me two years to perfect. It's just a basic beef chili, but it's really good! Try substituting ground turkey--it works great too. Doubling or tripling this recipe is no problem. I always do so I can freeze some. It reheats amazingly well! Fair warning--this chili is pretty spicy! You can lower the spice by using milder peppers instead of the jalapenos. It's also easy to increase the heat--we add a another teaspoon of red pepper and a whole cascabel pepper (remove before serving) with the rest of the spices. Additional diced jalapenos or some habaneros also work great. -- posted by SweetPeaNC

Pat's Spicy-Hot Winter Chili No. 6

Description: neither thick nor thin, big flavor, traditional chili flavor, 4-alarm on a 1-5 alarm scale. If you like 10 or 12 drops of Tabasco on a big plate of spaghetti, this chili is fine for you, but it's not so hot that your eyeballs are going to pop out.
This chili began as a clean-out-the-refrigerator recipe but I did apply my considerable chili knowledge to the dish by manipulating the flavor with certain key herbs and spices. I didn't just dump in everything in other words. I'm compelled to say that I was very happy with the end result. For one thing, it doesn't taste like all my other chilis. No, this one is much more traditional in flavor with plenty of good heat. But when you STOP eating it, your mouth does not remain really hot. Just right, if you like a good spicy chili. I think the salsa verde is the key ingredient.
This chili would be especially good for a Superbowl party or for brunch on a day of deep snow and goofing off. There is very little labor involved in this one. It will be too hot for the kids though. One final caution: do not add salt to this recipe. There is plenty of salt in the bouillon and other ingredients. Enjoy this very special chili my friends! -- posted by Bone Man

I posting this recipe to save it. My husband got this recipe out of Maxim Magazine. We made it to the best of our ability but we had to make substitutions because we just couldn't find some of the chili powders. We ended up just using 5 Tbs. of commercial chili powders in place of the 3 Tbs. of ancho chili powder, 1 Tbs. pasilla chili powder, and 1 Tbs. ground cumin. It was still very good. We also substituted ground buffalo for about 1/2 of the beef. Then we made it extra fancy pants... we topped it with the cumin crema, sliced avocado and apple smoked Gruyere. -- posted by Andi the grate

Big Daddy's Texas Red Chili

BD says, "My standard chili served me well over the years until I discovered the joy of Internet shopping. This gave me access to all sorts of wonderful ingredients previously unavailable. For chili this meant access to real chiles. Ancho chiles (the dried form of the Poblano) can be rehydrated and simmered to create a wonderful puree that adds character and depth to all sorts of dishes. Not wanting to change my original chili recipe (nostalgia, you know) I created Texas Red. This chili recipe is now my very favorite."

Chili With a Little Twist

I came up with this recipe after tweaking many different recipes. The base recipe I worked with was Marty Hugo's Chili #11149, which is a great recipe. The twist in this recipe is some brown sugar and lime juice added at the end. The sugar adds just a touch of sweetness and the lime brightens the chili up. -- posted by Weeza7

Trader Joe's Touchdown Chili

Had a sample in the store and it was very good and easy. I tasted it with turkey but you can use either turkey, beef, chicken or tofu. The bean salad is a 3 bean medley (Chickpeas, red kidney, and Romano beans) in a lemon and white vinegar marinade with garlic, onion, and oregano called Marinated Bean Salad and it is sold as a Trader Joe's brand product. -- posted by Oolala

White Chicken Chili (No Red Ingredients)

I scoured Recipezaar to find the best ingredients/quantities to make a white chili without red ingredients (no beef, chili powder, tomato products) and came up with a winner. I delivered this to a friend who recently had a baby and her husband declared it one of the best meals he's ever had! My husband also loved it but requested an extra teaspoon of cumin next time--you be the judge. -- posted by Picholine

Chili, Plain and Simple but Darn Good

2-Bean 4-Alarm Vegetarian Beer-Base Chili

The possibilities for this recipe are endless, depending on what kind of beans you like and carnivorous types checking out this recipe who want to use traditional refried beans, or vegetarian and/or fat-free refried beans. I was looking at various vegetarian chili recipes, and was always disappointed with all the non-bean "chunks" I kept picking up with the fork, or thought these chilis were too sweet. Yes, I love veggies but was always grossed out by tomato chunks (in spite of loving tomato sauces and my special tomato soup.) If you want to make this vegi-chili "con corn", a can of 15-oz La Fe corn is the BEST for this recipe, but I wanted to keep the posting simple so I left it out. 1-2 tbsp garlic powder works if you don't have chopped garlic at hand. All kinds of beer suffice for this recipe but I found that Coors Light and Corona really worked the best. All kinds of refried beans can be used-- I like using a can of vegetarian refried pinto beans with chipotles for this recipe, it's what makes it 4-alarm! -- posted by the80srule

This recipe came from a friend, she got it from a recipe book at the dollar store, I would have thought it would already be on here, but nope.
