Low Carb Jalapeno Poppers

I was craving poppers but didn't want super greasy bacon or high carb breading so I invented these... Sometimes instead of the garlic powder and seasoning salt, I use 2 tsp of a product called Johnny's Garlic Spread Seasoning which is just awesome - I buy it at Costco here in Canada. The number of jalapenos varies depending on the size you get and how much spread you put inside each half! Tried it with fat-free cream cheese and it just didn't have a good texture. Have also used shredded taco cheese blend right out of the freezer instead of plain cheddar! -- posted by Cadillacgirl

Delia Smith's Gratin of Celery With Stilton

I saw this recipe in Marks and Spencer's 2009 Christmas leaflet. It looked really interesting and I wanted to put it somewhere for future use. Stilton is a strong cheese like a blue cheese. So, if you can't find Stilton you can probably use blue cheese. She says that it could be either a side dish or a main vegetarian dish over brown rice. -- posted by Sarah_Jayne

Aged Cheddar Turkey or Chicken Cutlets

I got this recipe from a Canadian cheese magazine, "all you need is cheese". It stated to use turkey, but there's no reason that you can't use chicken. You can replace the aged cheddar with gouda, mild cheddar, slices of brie or crumbled feta. This recipe can be prepared ahead of time and baked at the last minute. Enjoy! -- posted by Nif

Christmas Deli Salad With Pomegranate, Parma Ham and Gorgonzola

A fabulous wilted salad boasting the rich, festive colours of vibrant crimson reds and lush holly greens, as well as being full of flavour - this is simply a wonderful salad for the Christmas, New Year or Thanksgiving family table. Please do use any blue cheese or ham of your choice; Stilton or Roquefort would be lovely as well as Prosciutto or Bayonne ham.......and, if you are serving any vegetarians, just leave the ham out of the equation! The dressing can be made up a few hours or a day beforehand, just wilt the leaves and assemble the salad right before serving. Serve this salad with crusty rolls or some thinly sliced rye bread and a glass of chilled Rosé or Chardonnay. -- posted by French Tart

Cheesy Christmas Tree

This recipe is for an easy appetizer for Christmas time. I love serving festive appetizers and this is a great one. Originally from Kraft Food and Family. It is super fast and makes a presentation. If you don't like string cheese I sub in a long thicker pretzel stick/log as the trunk and it looks and tastes great. Merry Christmas. Enjoy.
Best Buffalo Chicken Dip

Most buffalo chicken dips have too strong of a ranch flavor for my liking so I modified the recipe. I like to play with the ingredients a bit so feel free to modify to meet your tastes. You can use canned chicken but I prefer to bake my own or use leftovers. I even use leftover Thanksgiving turkey. -- posted by rubia

Brie With Sun-Dried Tomatoes

There isn't a simpler appetizer out there, unless you count chips and a jar of salsa. I think the original recipe appeared in Bon Appetit's Too Busy to Cook column, and my sister relied on it as a quick appetizer for years, until she tired of being asked to make it over and over and over. Not to be discouraged, my daughter still requests this when asked what she wants for her birthday dinner, calling it "Brie with Stuff On It". -- posted by Nadacook

Southwest Salsa Rice Bites Appetizer

Although this recipe sounds like another one named similarly, it has different proportions so be aware they are different. This recipe is for a unique appetizer with a southwest kick. Fun to make and fun to eat. Very simple ingredients but delicious. These were eaten so fast and everyone wanted the recipe guest and family alike. The rice gives it unique texture. I use cheddar pepper jack so you can too if you have trouble finding just pepper jack. Further, I used Japanese sticky rice (not Uncle Bens or the the like) and Tostitos salsa but you can sub in your favorites. The sticky rice really binds it. Picture coming. Enjoy!
Toasted Pistachio-Cheese Arancini

Staff Favorite, Make-Ahead, Vegetarian and absolutely delicious! :) This recipe for arancini - fried risotto balls - comes from Renato Poliafito, who got it from his Sicilian cousin, Emmanuelle Samtifillipo. These arancini are the size of tangerines filled with creamy cheesy rice, studded with nuts and green peas and encased in a crunchy crust.
Cauliflower and Shells With White Cheddar Dill Sauce

There is an amazing website here in Richmond, VA called Black Sheep (MUST GO IF YOU'RE LOCAL!). They currently have seasonal side dish that inspired this copy-cat recipe for my family's Christmas dinner - with no baking necessary. I have pretty exotic taste buds, but my two brothers and father have a diet that consist of tacos, hot wings, pizza, burgers and steak - NO VEGGIES. This is a gourmet and delicious way to sneak them into a meal that usually consists only of meat and potatoes ... -- posted by Susan 0485

Brie, Garlic, and Paprika Filling

The recipe suggests using this filling with baguettes, but I also think it could be good inside a sturdier crepe, cornmeal maybe? Anyway, this filling is a Spanish tapa staple.

Notes: Brie will be slippery and may be difficult to slice if too warm. If you prefer, cut the brie in half and serve on a plate with a small knife, allowing your guests to spread warm brie on slices of bread. -- posted by LibraChick93093

Sarasota's Red, White & Green Cheese Torte

Not sure what to call this...It's an old classic. I didn't come up with this, but I have added my touches over the years, but it is still a favorite. Now I love to make these in 3 small ramiken molds to put on a serving platter rather than 1 large mold (to me it is just a nice presentation), but any decorative bowl, or even just a nice round bowl. You just don't want a dish that is too narrow or deep as you are making layers. It is perfect for parties. Just make sure to serve a variety of crackers, toasted baguettes, vegetables, bagel chips, or just fresh breads and fruits to enjoy all the flavors. Note: using fresh pesto really helps if you have the ingredients. I make a basil pesto, but a good quality store bought or one from your local Deli will work just fine. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Sausage Flowers

This is an absolute favorite of mine and is a staple at all of my Christmas parties...wouldn't quite be one without them! They have a little bit of heat, balanced by the sour cream, and the combination of crunchy edges on corners of the wonton skins with the chewiness of the portion that cups the filling makes for a wonderful sensation. It's best to make the cups upto a day ahead of time and put them in a plastic bag, but don't seal it or they could lose their crunchiness. -- posted by Coprtopd

Sarasota's Full Proof Traditional Lasagna

This is my favorite lasagna, and is always the one I go back to. It is "fairly" classic, but I enjoy the mix of turkey and sausage vs all beef or beef and sausage which can be a bit heavy to me. A nice mix of romano, parmesan and mozarella and some red peppers in the tomato sauce makes this just a bit unique. I have many different recipes, including ... a vegetarian lasagna, mushroom, spinach and kale, mexican, and seafood ... but this by far is my ultimate standby. I really call this my Classic Lasagna. This is what I do: Layers ... 1) meat sauce 2) noodles 3) meat sauce 4) ricotta mix 5) grated cheese 6) noodles 7) meat sauce 8) ricotta mix 9) grated cheese 10) noodles 11) meat sauce 12) grated cheese. FYI ... These feeds a crowd, but I love to make it and then keep 1 or 2 pieces out for the week and freeze the rest. This makes a great easy lunch or simple dinner -- posted by SarasotaCook

Garlic Feta Toasts With a Warm Olive Spread

I don't know about you, but I'm a bit of a soup and salad person, and once a week I have just a salad or soup/salad, soup/sammy for dinner rather than a heavy dinner. I make this quite often and serve it with a bowl of my potato soup or my chick pea soup, but you can use whatever you like best. Slice a few good fresh tomatoes or some fresh fruit if you prefer, and you have a great easy dinner. Two (2) nights a week, I really try to eat a bit lighter - and this fits the bill. But, it also makes an amazing appetizer, or a great side dish for any meal during the week. Simply put, it is just really good. Now whatever you do ... don't get rid of that cheese - Save! It makes a great spread on baguettes or makes an amazing spread for a sandwich. It will last a couple of weeks in the refrigerator covered. and, make all this ahead of time and just heat up, toast and serve. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Fruit and Cheese Bites

This recipe was from Family Circle Magazine Dec. 2009. It was considered to be a healthy recipe choice for those having parties with lots of food and drink. I made them for a meeting and they were a hit. I think you have to serve them with other things because despite being healthy they are a bit rich. I like them as a great alternative to the usual cheese ball. The nuts give it crunch and the two cheeses with the three fruits was very unique. This is not for someone who doesn't like cheese though. Perfect for the holidays, New Year's parties or anytime you need a no cook appetizer.
