			<description>I spent quite a bit of time living on the island of St. Vincent in the West Indies and picked up this Rum Punch recipe from the Grand View Hotel there.  I cut the ingredients in half as the original recipe was for a huge quantity.  Also, the amount of rum and water was unclear.  I interpreted the rum to water ratio as 1 part rum to 2 parts water since the original recipe does not quantify an actual amount of either.  If you use a normal size bottle of rum and double the amount for the water, you should be fine. This makes a great Adult Punch. I've made an ice ring with the cranberry juice in a jello ring and add it to the punch before serving. Keeps it from getting watered down and looks pretty in a punch bowl. This has Contreau in it, but you can use OJ or even Triple Sec. Whichever you prefer. The DH loves it and it's great to make on cold days and fine for big portions. SPECIAL NOTE: This soup can easily be modified. Add more ham and cheese if youd like, or add cubed chicken or Turkey instead of ham. If you add more veggies and need more water to boil them, use 2 bouillon cubes to every cup of water you add and 2 Tablespoons of Flour to every cup of milk to thicken it up. You can tone down the heat a bit by using diced tomatoes with green chilis instead of with jalapeno. Also please note that you can heat this on medium heat and then simmer 25-30 minutes if your in a hurry.  I tend to let it simmer for a few hours or place in my crockpot. It's most popular in the Caribbean around the holidays and can double as an adult beverage with the addition of your favorite alcohol (namely rum or guinness). It has a milk base with spices like vanilla and nutmeg, so it's definitely not a carrot juice for those looking for health, but hey, there are carrots involved!
