Delicious Creamy Cheesy Green Bean Casserole

Another veggie family favorite. This can be prepared ahead of time, refrigerated and baked when ready. This is really good with ham. Although I have only made this recipe using frozen beans, I imagine that you could make this using about 3 cans of French-style beans, just omit cooking the beans. Also the 2 cups half and half can be replaced with whole milk, just watch carefully not to scald the milk while cooking. -- posted by KITTENCAL

Greek Chicken Casserole

As we head towards the last weeks of the Zaar World Tour, I've been looking for Greek dishes that I plan to make in the near future. Lots of garlic and other good spices, this looks like a certain winner to me. As a one dish meal, it works well as a midweek meal and be suitable for reheating leftovers. If you omit the feta, this dish is suitable for the WW Core Program or you can easily count the points. -- posted by justcallmetoni

I got the idea from Charlie Gibson's casserole but with green beans as the main ingredient. I just threw in what I had in the pantry at the time.
This is a twist to an age old recipe. The added cheese and richer texture of the casserole are a big hit amongst family and friends and is requested at every potluck meal or big family meal by even my youngest ones.
Mrs. G's Green Bean and Porcini Mushroom Casserole

Got this amazing recipe from dear old mom,not sure where she got it so I'm claiming it!! I am not a green bean casserole fan, but this is soooo good. The mushroom cooking in cream is something I am going to turn into a separate recipe sometime, it's soooo yummy. This is a staple on our Thanksgiving table, give it a try, you'll get rave reviews!!

"All the components of this dish can be cooked ahead of time. The assembled casserole needs only 15 minutes in a 375-degree oven to warm through and brown. A gratin dish works nicely with this recipe." -- posted by Mrs Goodall

Kuzu Guvec

I was looking for a new way to use eggplant recently and found this Turkish meat and eggplant casserole. If I were using really fresh eggplant (like from the local farmer's market), I would skip step 1. I used less salt (in step 4) and substituted butter flavored nonstick spray for the butter. I also didn't bother to peel the tomatoes. (By the way, I think there should actually be an umlaut over the u in Guvec and a cedilla under the c but I don't know how to add them.) -- posted by echo echo

Pork Chops With Stuffing and Green Beans

As with most of my dishes, this was born of lack of inspiration and sheer laziness. I had a yen for stuffed pork chops but not enough yang to actually make them. I found lots of recipes here for pork chops with stuffing but none with the green bean/onion layers which add moisture & flavor to the dish. Of course, the pan drippings left from browning would be a wonderful gravy starter if you're so inclined.
Green Bean-Mushroom Casserole (By Paula Deen)

This is a highly rated recipe from Paula Deen of the Food Channel and worth making! I have tweaked it slightly and doubled the complete amounts to suit our tastes --- Paula has a house seasoning blend mix which is 1/2 cup salt mixed with 2 tablespoons black pepper and 2 tablespoons garlic powder, she uses a small amount in this casserole, you have the option of omitting the fresh garlic and adding it in, store the remaining mix in an air tight container for up to 6 months, I strongly recommend using low-sodium cream of mushroom soup -- posted by KITTENCAL

Creamy Green Bean Casserole

This is my own version of Green Bean Casserole, It uses a different ingredient, but I think it's the best. I hope You will like it too :) This recipe is what I make for holidays, but you can certainly scale it down to suit the amount you want to make. It does make less than it seems though, especially if you use the French style green beans (not to mention how good left overs are). Exact measurements aren't really neccesary though so don't be afraid to make less or more. For one can beans I'd use 2oz cream cheese and 1/3 can of cream of chicken. -- posted by PickleLover

Every year it is my BF's and my job to bring the green bean casserole to the Thanksgiving dinner. The recipe started with us just adding bacon (because EVERYTHING is better with bacon) and then we added more "stuff" till we came up with this super fattening, garlic laden delight. Maybe next time we might have to add shredded cheese and some sauteed onions. . . food for thought :) -- posted by Aussie-In-California

My Low Carb Green Bean Casserole

I came up with this after several tries (experiments?)in an effort to reduce carbs. The traditional version has a very high carb count and lots of flavor. The carbs have been reduced here, but I think the flavor remains. I used bacon, which keeps the salty and crunch of french fried onions. I used Bertolli’s Alfredo Sauce w/Portobellos instead of cream of mushroom soup, which keeps the mushrooms we love, but omits needless carbs! I used whole milk- yes whole- because it keeps it creamy and the fat adds flavor.

My family loved this version and it's my husband's new favorite at the holidays. And, he's a difficult man to please! Plus it ended up being lower in calories than the traditional version! How great is that? -low carb, less calories. -- posted by KentuckyTinkerbell

Hg's Rockin' Lean Bean Casserole! - Ww Points = 1

Here is yet another Thanksgiving Day recipe from Hungry Girl! The holidays are here. Know what that means? It's green bean casserole time! But did you know that even though the main ingredient in the classic dish is green beans, each serving can have about 250 - 300 calories and TONS of fat? How can that be? It's all those crazy canned fried onions that are crammed into and piled on top of the thing. One little can of those crispy catastrophes has roughly 900 calories and 70 grams of fat! Eeeks! The good news is, with just a few easy swaps, you can make your own version of this holiday fave, for a fraction of the fat and calories. Check out HG's NEW recipe and share it with everyone you know...

(Serving Size: 1/8 Casserole - 80 calories, 1g fat, 255mg sodium, 13g carbs, 4g fiber, 3g protein -- POINTS® value 1)

Please note that all of the can sizes are approximate as none were provided in the recipe from Hungry Girl. I will update this when I make the recipe! :-) ANOTHER NOTE: ***This recipe will rock your holiday world!!!! The key ingredient here is the Crispy Delites Red Onion Chips. You can buy them online at heavenlydietstore.com or yummydelights.com. In a pinch, you can use an ounce of onion-flavored soy crisps instead. -- posted by senseicheryl

Fabulous Dairy and Soy Free Green Bean Casserole!

I have been really allergic to both milk and soy for years, as well as lactose intolerant, so I've been missing out on this holiday favorite for quite some time. Inspired by the recipe "I can't believe there's no lactose in this green bean casserole!" I made a version that is a little simpler and took it a step further by eliminating soy. My family thought it was even better than the traditional recipe!

Additional allergy/diet options:
To make this recipe totally vegan/free of lactose, use margarine instead of butter.

To make it gluten free, use gluten free all-purpose flour mix, available in most grocery store natural or allergy food sections. Caramelize some onions and put them on top instead of the french-fried variety. This is also a delicious option for those who want to avoid egg.

To make sure this dish is soy free, be extra careful when you check the labels for french fried onions, as some brands use soy protein or soy flour in their batter.

Enjoy! -- posted by Chef #1049909

Mushroom Green Bean Casserole

A french-style green bean casserole minus the fried onions and using homemade white sauce with fresh mushrooms and onions. This is very similar to Kittencal's Recipe #128905 , but mine does not use water chestnuts or almonds, and mine uses Cheez Whiz process cheese instead of shredded cheddar. You can use two 16-ounce packages of frozen french-style green beans instead if you like. Use more or less cream depending on how thick you like your sauce. Yum! -- posted by Laura70
