Jenn's Sugar Free Dark Chocolate Orange Faux Chai Latte Coffee

I tried International Coffee's Dark Mayan Chocolate Coffee Mix and it was to cinnamony for me so I added some OJ. And tada, my favorite coffee was born. I started South Beach recently so I attempted to recreate a sugar free version and here it is. I make my coffee with milk instead of water which makes it seem like more of a treat. I am always sad when I get to the bottom of the mug! :) -- posted by Chef Mom :)

Lauren's Masala Chai Concentrate

I've spent so much money buying cartons of liquid chai concentrate and have tried many times to make it myself. Well, today I researched ruthlessly and this (which I made up on my own) is the concentrate I've been waiting for! Keep in mind everybody has a different masala chai preference and you should adjust it to your liking - I like a little spice, not too sweet, and an overall balance of flavors. Enjoy! -- posted by Icedcacti

(I dumped the diet but kept the smoothie recipe.)
Very nutritious, filling and low fat and my favorite way to start my day!
I'm hooked on these and always make sure I have the ingredients in the house.

Hot Spiced Tea

This is a wonderfully flavored, easy to make, tea. That warms you up on a cold day. The citrus and the tea flavors blend together and there is something about the taste that leaves one going back for just one more cup.
This recipe is great to make up for gifts in a decorative jar or a container with a pretty mug for the holidays. Type up a recipe card and wa-la instant gift that will last more than just until the goodie is gone. -- posted by NASCARChef #1040030

Tamworth Breakfast

After a BIG night of drinking & only four hours sleep at The Tamworth Country Music Festival (5 hours north of Sydney Australia), I was back in a pub & taking crap at 9am because I was drinking a very refreshing but non alcoholic Aussie drink called Lemon, Lime & Bitters. A quick word to the bartender & three shots of vodka being added to my drink saw my integrity & my cloudy brain back on track !
The Tamworth Breakfast was born,...CHEERS !

Non-Alcholic Fruity Brunch Cocktail

This isn't just for brunch. It would be a nice non-alcoholic cocktail any time of day but it got the name because I threw it together this morning to drink while I put together Christmas brunch. It would also be nice at any party where there are people - and kids - that don't wish to drink alcohol but still want to feel part of the party. -- posted by Sarah_Jayne

Café Con Leche

A popular Spanish coffee drink, often served at breakfast. The proportions should be equal quantities milk and strong coffee. The ingredients and instructions include making the coffee with a French press, but you can substitute any very strong brewed coffee or espresso. I wouldn't recommend instant coffee or decaf as neither would likely be strong enough. The scalded milk will be sweeter than fresh milk, so keep that in mind when adding sugar.
" Greens to Go" Smoothie

This is from Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies magazine. "The chlorophyll in greens combats tumor growth; it works on the adrenal glands, purifies the lymph nodes, unclogs the arteries and enriches the blood. It protects against radiation. Chlorophyll is only one of the many benefits of greens. It also provides a large gamut of vitamins and minerals, phyto-nutrients and colon cleansing cellulose.

It is blended so smoothly that even babies starting solids and toddlers who can't chew up greens can swallow these power foods and not gag. The cellulose is broken down and the greens are so easily digested that they begin to assimilate even while still in their mouth." You might need to play with the greens amount to get the right amount of sweetness. I added more fruit to cut the greens taste and would use only milk or kefir, instead of water next time. Try strawberry, raspberry, peach etc. I adjusted it just a bit. -- posted by WI Cheesehead

Banana Latte

I often watch the show, "You Are What You Eat" with Gillian McKeith on BBC America. She was explaining this recipe on one of her shows and I decided I had to try it. I don't know if I got the exact measurements right, but I think I'm quite close. This is delicious and fast and easy. I think it makes an excellent quick breakfast if you have no time to eat, or makes a great snack too. ETA: I caught a rerun of the episode on which this particular recipe was featured and realized my error in naming the recpe "Banana Mocha Smoothie". The correct name for this recipe is "Banana Latte". Sorry for any confusion and no wonder, because mocha usually means chocolate is added, but it wasn't a part of the original recipe. The name "Banana Latte" makes more sense. I'm happy to note on one of the reviews that adding chocolate syrup to make this into a banana mocha works so well, though. :) -- posted by blancpage

Patricia Mahoney of Presque Isle, Maine says it's difficult to get everyone to eat breakfast before school in the morning, and this gives a delicious and nutritious easy start. If fresh mint were in season, I would definitely throw in a few sprigs for flavor next time. Of course fresh fruit would be even more delicious, but this is a great winter alternative to beat the doldrums. YUM! -- posted by AmyZoe

We picked these items, each lending their own curative and anti-inflamatory properties. Together they make a sweet, tart sorbet with an amazing, beautiful ruby color.
Superfruit Smoothie

My absolute favorite smoothie - banana, kiwi, mango, peach, and clementine! When fresh fruit is in season, I like to play around with different combinations, but this is the one that I make the most. Not only does it taste absolutely amazing, but it is loaded with natural nutrition too; Vitamins B & C, potassium, dietary fiber, omega-3 F.A.s, antioxidants, calcium...much more wholesome (and yummier!) than a vitamin pill in my opinion. And because of the fiber and protein, it is filling enough to be a hearty snack or a meal substitute. Before you get too excited, a quick word of warning about the kiwi - if you eat too much at once it can make your mouth feel tingly and raw (yes... I've had this happen. I can't help myself!) I hope you like this smoothie as much as I do! :) -- posted by Oenophilly

Green smoothies sound gross, but believe me, with fruit added, they are sweet and tasty, and unbelievably healthy. Not to mention you are getting lots of water, which helps fill you up more and studies show most Americans do not drink enough (thus making them more likely to eat more food.)
Sunshine Tropical Smoothie

Made this for breakfast today from stuff I had on hand. Freezing over-ripe bananas is a great way to always have them on hand for breakfast smoothies, and it's another great use for bananas that are beginning to turn brown other than the ol'standby: banana bread! Simply peel your over-ripe banana, break into pieces that will blend in your blender, and place in a ziplock freezer bag. They are ready to go! For this recipe, be sure to use coconut WATER, not milk, which gives this smoothie just the perfect "hint" of tropical coconut flavor. Coconut water has 15 times more potassium than that found in sugary sport drinks, and that it contains five key electrolytes. It is the water found inside the coconut after it has been filtered through the coconut's husk. -- posted by Kozmic Blues

Bass Lake Fruit Smoothies

This is my recipe for smoothies that I always use. We drank many of these while Holidaying at Bass Lake California, hence the name.
My daughter loves these, and it's a great morning treat, especially before school, it helps get her moving! I let her choose what flavour she wants the night before, and bring it up to her while she's getting ready for School.
The key is the vanilla yogourt, it gives it a great flavour. -- posted by ~Leslie~

I am always in a hurry in the morning and get tired of the same old granola bar on-the-go. This smoothie is really yummy, filling and good for you! I have tried making a triple berry one (with strawberries, blueberries and raspberries), but I like this one the best!
Five Food Group Smoothie

I came up with this recipe while trying to determine a healthy meal-replacement smoothie. I find most meal replacement recipes to be okay, but this is one that was surprisingly good. The orange juice was necessary because its strong flavour masks the spinach.

Be careful with the oatmeal. I think any type will work, but the steel cut variety will add a bit of crunch. -- posted by Fifitrixibelle

Smoothie in Paradise

Pineapple, mango, banana and coconut....why shouldn't breakfast remind you of a caribbean vacation?!?! I've been playing mad scientist with the blender lately and this is my favorite concoction yet. The most important thing I've learned about smoothies: FROZEN FRUIT IS THE WAY TO GO! If you allow it to partially thaw so that the fruit is still quite icey, but softened enough to blend easily, you do not have to add as much ice and thus get more intense flavor.

(If you do not care for the granular consisitency of flaked coconut you could substitute with 1/8 to 1/4 cup of canned cream of coconut.) -- posted by FolkDiva

Yogurt Breakfast Smoothie

I make one of these shakes for breakfast almost every morning. Sometimes I make extra for a quick snack mid-morning too. The intent of this is something filling, but healthy.

Sometimes I will sometimes mix in 1t of some kind of protein powder (e.g., whey powder) if I need the extra filling nature of protein. Be mindful of how much protein powder is added as it can make the shake very filling -- I used to to 1T but that was far too much.

As a note, I used to mix with a hand blender wand. I found that did not give the smoothie the same fluffiness, but it was passable. -- posted by John W

Power Packed Purple Smoothie

I've gotten really into having smoothies for breakfast lately. They taste great and it helps me get in some great nutrients to start my day. This one contains a couple ingredients that will make you think "What??!!" Trust me on this one. The cottage cheese adds lots of protein and gives the smoothie a creamy texture. Spinach adds lots of vitamin A and you can't even taste it (really, I promise!). ___________________________________________
