Bean Dip Sandwich.. Not As Gross As It Sounds

I haven't had this since I was a kid, but after reading so many other weird sandwich recipes, I figured there had to be someone out there who would enjoy this concotion. My mother used to make these sandwiches for us when we went to the State Fair, to Six Flags, or on a picnic. -- posted by Camel_Cracker

E-Z Pb-Bbq Sandwich

I have enjoyed other's extremely simple but "why didn't I think of that!" recipes, and I thought why not share some of mine, because maybe someone hasn't thought of it, as simple as it is! This is a sandwich I've been making for 10 or so years, very simple but the mingling of flavors is amazing! Not to mention the different but good crunchiness :) -- posted by soulola

This recipe is taken from a cookbook issued by employees and retirees from Santa Fe railroad in Topeka, KS in 1976.
Stained Glass Paint for Cookies

I'm terrible with a pastry bag and royal icing to decorate cookies. Just have no talent for it. I found this recipe at brownielocks.com and had to share it because the cookies turned out so well! Unlike other "stained glass" cookies that require hard candies that are, well, just too hard on a soft cookie, this makes a beautiful and edible solution. I did pipe the outlines in royal icing. Important: Use a paint brush and do a light coat first and let dry. After the first coat, you can daub on to fill up to your lines for a thicker coat. Cooking time is drying time. -- posted by MawMaw Angela

Hasperat

All of you trekkies will be familiar with this one. Hasperat is a notoriously spicy Bajoran dish in the Star Trek universe. It looks a little bit like a burrito and is made using a specially prepared brine, which if made correctly causes the eyes to water and sears the tongue. I guess it would be pretty nerdy of you to sneak this yummy wrap into the theatre and enjoy it while watching the midnight showing of the upcoming Star Trek movie by J.J. Abrams, which I'm totally not going to do... Live long and prosper, yo!

EDIT: Earlier today a Bajoran woman beamed into my apartment and told me that my Harperat recipe was good, but slightly off. She said it needed to be brined in order to be an acceptable hasperat recipe, and she finds that the easiest way to do this is add some chopped hot pickled veggies. Also, she said, the green stuff is spinach, not alfalfa sprouts. Go figure. -- posted by The Geeky Chef

Giant Puffball Mushroom Crust Pizza

Giant Puffballs are edible wild mushrooms that grow in poor moist soil in the fall. These mushrooms grow abuntantly in my own yard and I never knew they were edible until my friend, who has a knack for edible plants told me so. BE AWARE THAT MANY WILD MUSHROOMS ARE POISONOUS. You should never consume a wild mushroom unless you have confirmed with an expert that they are indeed edible. Puffballs are one of the few unmistakable wild mushrooms, but if they have begun to spore, you canot eat them. FMI: http://americanmushrooms.com/edibles3.htm

My friend Ed and I created this pizza recipe. You can use any of your favorite pizza toppings. This recipe was a great find for me, since mushrooms are virtually carb free, and I am eating a low carb diet. -- posted by Rachel Rodrigue

for all those people who are obssesed with jam as i am this if you! If i was a biscuit i would be a jammy dodger, to the non british here on recipezaar a jammy dodger is 2 small round shortcakes sandwiched together with jam in the middle the top biscuit has a hole in the middle so you can see the jam. i love them. and when i found minis of jammy dogers i knew they needed to be used in cupcakes. i trialed them with a non vegan cake and it didnt go so well, so although a jammy dodger isnt vegan the cupcake is, this is the basic cupcake recipe from vegan cupcakes take over the world. the custard is made from birds custard powder and i microwaved it as i lazy. If you cant get custard powder i would use vanilla buttercream instead of the custard. -- posted by pornstarbarbie

Vampire Cookies

These are fun cookies for Halloween or a vampire genre party. The cookies have a light vanilla and butter flavor to them, and are the perfect color to really set off the red of the filling. The have a slightly crisp edge and a soft, chewy center. When you take a bite and expose the jam, they really do look like they’re bleeding! They are baked at a slightly cooler temperature than some cookies, so they don’t really brown during baking. Best if served the same day.
Malt-O-Meal Cake

This is an adaptation of "Semolina cake soaked with lemon syrup" from "A Baker's Tour" cookbook. The semolina cake was originally from Greece & called "Revani". When I saw you could substitute the semolina for cream of wheat, I figured my malt-o-meal would work just as well. I had maple brown sugar malt-o-meal & we loved it so much, I don't think I will ever be able to make it any other way. If you don't have that kind of malt-o-meal, I would imagine you can incorporate those flavors in the syrup that is drizzled on top. This cake was gone in 2 hours. We really liked it & I hope you will too. -- posted by Feej

Filipino Chocolate Meat (Dinuguan)

This may sound bizarre or even disgusting to some people since it uses edible pork blood [found in most international grocery store's freezer aisle], but many cultures use blood as an ingredient (ie: European blood sausage, British black pudding) so don't knock it before you try it! =] I found this recipe online and posted it here for safekeeping and because this website hardly has any Filipino recipes. It's called "chocolate meat" because of the way the cooked pork blood resembles a chocolate sauce. It was also a good way to get your younger kids to try it out!
Tempura Cheesecake

A deep fried cheesecake. Crunchy on the outside and melted sweetness inside. The key to this recipe is getting the tempura to be crispy enough. I have tried many times to get my tempura as crispy as the Japanese restaurants, and trust me, the egg/flour/water recipe does not work. So I have listed several suggestions below to help you achieve maximum crispiness. If you are unable to obtain wheat flour or rice flour, you can substitute those portions with regular flour, however some of the crispiness may be compromised. The soda water can also be substituted with ice water. Another option you have is to use a frying premix. However, some of those mixes are not good. I have tried the Hime Tempura Batter Mix that comes in a yellow carton box and it didn't do well. The ones I do recommend are CJ's Frying Mix, which is a Korean brand that comes in a plastic sealed bag, McCormick Tempura Seafood Batter Mix and McCormick Golden Dipt Tempura Batter Mix. These contain wheat and rice flour which are key ingredients. -- posted by Romi

Yummy Banana & Dijon Mustard Sandwich -- Really!

This is not a joke recipe, honestly I make it all the time - have done for over 10 years & find it really yummy. When you think about it, it's not all that different from the old classic PB & J..... I love to eat this in thickly sliced soft white bread, it's also tasty in fresh brioche too. You have to use a regular (smooth) Dijon though, it doesn't work with any other mustard. I have made this sandwich for friends & most have really enjoyed it & asked for it again later! -- posted by Um Safia

Star Gazy Pie

This is from a Cornwall Tourism website. The original version had unintelligible grammar, so I've taken the liberty of correcting that.

Star Gazy Pie is a dish unique to Mousehole (a fishing village in West Cornwall with a most beautiful harbour). Prepared in the Ship Inn, eaten on 23rd December (Tom Bawcock's Eve). Long ago, winter storms had prevented the fishing boats putting to sea. In a lull of the bad weather, one fisherman (Tom Bawcock) managed to catch enough fish to prevent the village from starving. A pie of many fishes was made from the catch: Star Gazy Pie. -- posted by Cecily Parsley

Hirsch Insanity Sauce Pizza

or Pizza with Chicken, Cranberry, Jalapeno, and Apple.

Great for the Fall with hard or mulled cider! So titled because my brother created the cranberry jalapeno sauce, and I created this pizza. We're the black sheep of the family. You won't believe me, but this is a great flavor combination. It was popular with everyone, including my 3 yr. old and 1 1/2 yr old.

To make all of it at once might have been a little more time-consuming than I would normally tolerate. But the sauce keeps very well in a ziploc in the freezer, and you can break off bits to use when you need it.

(The prep time I gave assumes you have already made the sauce ahead.) -- posted by Mudflower

Bacon Caramels

“Where would we be without salt?” – James Beard
I casually sprinkled the thick-cut Hempler’s bacon with cayenne before frying to a nearly blackened crisp. Once the caramel had reached its perfect molten temperature I stirred in a handful of the bacon then reserved the rest to get sprinkled on top. The caramel set beautifully. Some were cut and served as is while a select few were covered in tempered dark chocolate. All of them were devoured.

State Fair Deep Fried Candy Bars

This is a recipe post more for laughs and shock value than to really home-make. It's definitely not healthy! But you recreate the deep-fried magic of state/county fairs and trips to Seaside right in your own kitchen! And it's not so horrible on the cholesterol level if you share it and only have maybe once a year ;)

This is enough batter to coat two candy bars, maybe a third one. Milky Ways are the best for this but Snickers, Mars Bars, and 3 Musketeers also work-- pretty much anything with a gooey center that you can poke a skewer through, hard chocolate won't work. -- posted by the80srule

Irish Moss (Instructions for Preparation)

I recently purchased a bag of Irish Moss from my local co-operative. I have used it twice. I made a Raw Chocolate Mousse and a Raw Cherry Pie. Irish Moss is a thickener similar to gelatin. It takes a little effort to prepare but once it's done you can just blend it into your ingredients to set up. -- posted by Chef Joey Z.

A Trifle Decadent

This delightful, low-cal trifle comes from Canadian Homemakers Magazine /2004. Thickened yogurt and angel food cake replace whipped cream and pound cake to make a luscious light trifle. Berries can be frozen or fresh. Garnish with fresh berries and some mint leaf for a pretty presentation.
The custard part can be made ahead of time and yogurt must be drained of it's liquid ahead of time -- posted by Inverchef

Spice Cake That You Don't Tell Your Guests is Tomato Soup Cake

Based off Recipe #28776 with notable changes made. These would make AWESOME cupcakes. I think subbing soymilk would work but I had regular milk on hand so I just used that. I love using sunflower oil but I'm sure vegetable or canola oil would work in this. I like this with chocolate frosting. -- posted by the80srule
