Vanilla Cinnamon Buttered Coffee

I created this today when I made Recipe #241750 and had to pass it on. It's richly delicious and will add an elegant touch to your holiday coffee for guests and family. You really don't need to make the butter recipe for this but if you you'll have it on hand for pancakes, muffins and coffee!. Please note that vanilla beans can be used several times. -- posted by Annacia

Chocolate Covered Cherry Coffee

My hubby loves Chocolate Covered Cherries. I bought a box yesterday and when I got up this morning there was a single one left in the box. I just know that in his self sacrificing way he was just protecting me from the evil sugar (Yeah, right! lol). Anyway, I had coffee making and when it was done I just popped that morsel into my coffee cup without really thinking about it.
Nif's Easy Way to Flatten Ginger Ale (Sick Tummy Remedy)

When your stomach is feeling sick, there is nothing like a FLAT glass of ginger ale! I grew up with this and so have my kids. Try this out - it works every time. This is one thing that kids seem to be able to keep down when they have a stomach bug. I find that a glass of this is enough if SIPPING, not gulped. If you just stir the heck out of your ginger ale, that works too! If you are concerned about the amount of sugar, try diet soda. NOTE: This is for a short term fix. It is not for people who have chronic conditions. Enjoy! -- posted by Nif

London Fog (My Inexpensive, Low Fat Version)

The London Fog is a popular cafe tea made with Earl Grey Tea, frothed milk and vanilla syrup. I have neither the time nor the money to get all fancy but I love the taste, so I came up with this and a friend requested I post it. I brew my tea by the pot, but I'll break it down to one cup. Feel free to post comments. I use artificial extract as I drink at least 2 or 3 of these a day, as student and single mother my budget is very very limited. Please don't judge me because I have no money. This is the best I can do to give myself a bit of a treat.

One tea bag, alone, does about 2 mugs of tea, in my experience. Personally, I use three tea bags in a drip coffee maker and it seems to make it fairly strong, which I prefer. Then I just add the other ingredients per cup I make. -- posted by Shannon & boys

Pomegranate-Lemon Warmer

Pomegranate juice is so healthy, yet rich enough that only a small amount is needed to make a soothing, tea-like beverage. The lemon adds extra health benefits, if fresh squeezed. I will add, since the pomegranate juice is not included in the nutrition facts, that this drink has about 43 calories. I hope you enjoy. :-) -- posted by White Rose Child

Devil's Smoothie - Cure for the Common Cold

I've known about this recipe for several years and it is time to be shared with RecipeZaar. This recipe is from Melissa Ray Davis and taken from her blog.
This smoothie is a treatment for the common cold and is best taken at the early onset of symptoms. It is strong and I usually take it over a period of an hour and probably best not taken on an empty stomach.
Fresh ingredients are key! Also, get unsweetened 100% cranberry juice - not a juice cocktail. -- posted by Kara9080

Almond Hot Cocoa / Hot Chocolate

I've been making this since I was a kid. I was taught it by my Grandmother, who learned it from her mother. It's a very old, very easy recipe. I craved this drink constantly while pregnant. I usually use Hershey bars or Kisses to make this. I like to use leftover chocolate from Christmas and Halloween to make this. I have used every chocolate imaginable for this and I've never had a complaint yet. Also, you can use water instead of milk, though it will taste different then intended. I use milk to make sure my daughter drinks enough during the holidays. It has a kick to it, because of the Cayenne and Cinnamon. If you taste test throughout, you should have no problems. Besides, that just means you have an excuse to have more chocolate. : )

Note: You can also make this into Peppermint Cocoa. See directions below. -- posted by Bekahbv

Pumpkin Spice Coffee.

I love the pumpkin spice cappuccino, but hate the fat and calories.I wanted to put this down to remind me of it. I made this when I had a craving, and it seemed to fit the bill. I looked up the benefits of all the spices, and realized it is quite healthy. Good for nausea, the digestive system, blood circulation fighting infection, anti-inflammatory, lowers triglycerides, as well as cholesterol, helps to digest fatty foods, and break down proteins, plus many more. So go ahead and indulge, but remember too much of a good thing is not good for you. While 2 or 3 cups is fine, 2 or 3 pots probably wouldn't be, nutmeg in large quantities can be toxic -- posted by Chef #1275037

La Provence's Bourbon Old Fashioned

In November 2009, my husband and I were delighted to be able to have Sunday brunch at Chef John Besh's restaurant, La Provence, in Lacombe, Louisiana. We fell in love with everything we ate that day, and I purchased a signed copy of Chef Besh's cookbook "My New Orleans". Our waitress was wonderful; the manager was personable & friendly. We even chatted with the head chef, Erick Loos IV, and he signed my cookbook, too. We also had a wonderful drink - an Old Fashioned. Unfortunately, the recipe for this drink was not in the cookbook. So I emailed the restaurant and they graciously sent me their recipe. We cannot wait to go back! -- posted by Kat's Mom

My daughter loves this drink. My husband used to drink it alot as a child. It makes a great snack when paired with buttterd toast or a PB&J! I do not reccomend that you use any milk lower than whole milk because it will be too watery. A sugar subsitute does not alter the taste as much so you can try that. -- posted by Chef Sarita in Austin Texas

Lorena's Michilada

I don't know if my friend Lorena made up her own recipe for this popular drink or if she got it from someone, but she's who I got it from- so she gets the credit! This is a great, sorta spicy but refreshing beer cocktail that pairs well with Salt & Vinegar chips and Mexican Novellas! Sort of like a Mexican Bloody Mary.. All the ingredients are adjustable to your own taste; want it spicier? Add more hot sauce. Tangier? More lemon! I use a 7oz bottle for one serving, but a regular 12oz bottle when I'm making two drinks or one large drink for myself, lol (I just don't quite double the other ingredients). -- posted by WithoutContext

Blue Moon Special

To celebrate the blue moon on New Year's Eve I made & enjoyed a version of a drink from Blue Ice American Vodka. The original recipe is called a Blue Ghost but I changed it up & changed the name to fit the special occasion. The second full moon in a month is called a blue moon. December 31, 2009's blue moon was coupled with a partial lunar eclipse. The next time a blue moon will fall on a New Year's Eve will be in the year 2028 and at that time a full lunar eclipse will occur.
I'm usually an Absolut vodka gal, but in this case I needed a gluten free vodka. Amazingly, I found a vodka made in my home state out of our famous Idaho russet potatoes. This drink is smooth & so beautiful! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :) -- posted by **Tinkerbell**

Fiberlicious Smoothie

As a serious smoothie addict, I have done quite a bit of experimenting to make something both delicious and filling. While I do love smoothies with fresh fruit, this particular recipe works best with frozen fruit because of the addition of cereal. Play around with flavors of yogurt and fruit until you find a pairing that you love! My favorite is Dannon Light and Fit banana yogurt and frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries). If you want to make this low-carb, look for SoySlender brand soy milk, as it only has 1g net carbs per serving. -- posted by The Casual Gourmet

Making a Perfect Cup or Pot of Tea

From "Victorian Tea Party". Afternoon and High tea were daily events in Victorian society in England and ladies tea parties were very popular. The table was beautifully set with the household's best bone china, beautifully prepared sandwiches and treats were served and tea was carefully brewed to ensure the very best flavor. In 1880, Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management was published - here is what she had to say about making tea the proper way:

"There is very little art in making good tea; if the water is boiling, and there is no sparing of the fragrant leaf, the beverage will almost invariably be good. The old-fashioned plan of allowing a teaspoonful to each person, and one over, is still practised.

Warm the teapot with boiling water; let it remain for two or three minutes for the vessel to become thoroughly hot, then pour it away. Put in the tea, pour in from 1/2 to 3/4 pint of boiling water, close the lid, and let it stand for the tea to draw from 5 to 10 minutes; then fill up the pot with water. The tea will be quite spoiled unless made with water that is actually ‘boiling’, as the leaves will not open, and the flavour not be extracted from them; the beverage will consequently be colourless and tasteless,—in fact, nothing but tepid water.

Where there is a very large party to make tea for, it is a good plan to have two teapots instead of putting a large quantity of tea into one pot; the tea, besides, will go farther. When the infusion has been once completed, the addition of fresh tea adds very little to the strength; so, when more is required, have the pot emptied of the old leaves, scalded, and fresh tea made in the usual manner.

Economists say that a few grains of carbonate of soda, added before the boiling water is poured on the tea, assist to draw out the goodness: if the water is very hard, perhaps it is a good plan, as the soda softens it; but care must be taken to use this ingredient sparingly, as it is liable to give the tea a soapy taste if added in too large a quantity.

For mixed tea, the usual proportion is four spoonfuls of black to one of green; more of the latter when the flavour is very much liked; but strong green tea is highly pernicious, and should never be partaken of too freely." -- posted by BecR

Power Packed Purple Smoothie

I've gotten really into having smoothies for breakfast lately. They taste great and it helps me get in some great nutrients to start my day. This one contains a couple ingredients that will make you think "What??!!" Trust me on this one. The cottage cheese adds lots of protein and gives the smoothie a creamy texture. Spinach adds lots of vitamin A and you can't even taste it (really, I promise!). ___________________________________________

This is made with green tea, not with black. Not exactly a very classical chai, but made out of a sudden green tea - cardamom - latte - craving. It turned out much better than I ever hoped it would! I used rice milk, but will post it just with "milk", use what matches your needings. -- posted by Mia in Germany
