Debbie's Fruit Yogurt Smoothie

I make these smoothies for my sons and I about 3 times/week. They like it in the morning with their breakfast, or just as an afternoon snack. I suggest adding the flaxseed meal for additional nutrients, as it's very hard to even tell it's in there and the benefits are outstanding! Also, I freeze all of the fruit that I use for this smoothie, giving it a nice thick, almost shakelike consistency. -- posted by DoubleA's Mom

Chocoberry Splash

This is a fun and easy beverage. I found it in some magazine, oh, 30 years or so ago. (It's written into the flyleaf of even an older cookbook). But it's stood the test of time. I've also used very ripe apricots and other types of berries- the key is soft fruit. -- posted by duonyte

Berry Good for You Smoothie

This shake is loaded with antioxidants and full of flavor. Smoothies are a great way to get a dose of fruit, fiber and good fats. Adding a little canola oil to it provides omega-3 fats and viatmin E as well as a smoother taste. Tip: Use fresh or frozen fruit. Your favorite cold tea may be substituted for green tea. I found this recipe at Tops market courtesy of Canolaninfo. Each serving is 1/2 cup. I have not tried this recipe, but I'm posting it for safe keeping. I plan on using decaff. green tea. -- posted by internetnut

Delicious Fruit Smoothie!!

I've never had much luck making smoothies until I threw this one together. It is ridiculously good for you, amazingly delicious, and super easy to make! However, my favorite thing about it is that you can store some in the fridge and it stays smoothie consistency for at least 24 hours (maybe longer, I haven't tried yet)! For the frozen strawberries and bananas, I freeze my own from fresh. I imagine the frozen kind you get from the store would work well too. You could try substituting other fruits or juices, but I can only guarantee the results with this recipe! -- posted by ramartin42

Pb&b Shake

I was in a bit of a pickle. I was getting bored of my usual breakfast so I wanted something new, yet good to taste and for my health. So, I came up with the brilliant idea of taking an old shake recipe and giving it a little pizazz! Although I only make it for breakfast, I guess it could be used for a nice snack or as a dessert drink. However you decide to indulge in it, I hope you enjoy this wonderful mix just as much as I do.

*NOTE* In the "Preparation Time" section, I put 1 Day, this is because of the freezing of the banana. -- posted by Nick R.

Delicious Organic Green Smoothy

When my breastfed daughter was around 10 months I started noticing something wasnt quite right, so I went to my Midwife & it turns out I had extremely low iron. Normal is 12 & I was at 7. She told me to be sure to eat my leafy greens, we'll in the hot humidity of South Western Florida the cooler your food is the better! This is so good, my daughter & I drink one every other day now & my iron level is up to a 13 after just one month!!! I can just imagine what its done for her!

I have tried many variations to switch it up a little, adding yogurt makes for a smoother texture (and the active cultures never hurt) Apple Juice can be substituted if you dont have OJ in the house. Mango (i used frozen to avoid the prep) Use your imagination -- posted by mrs.cubana

Quinoa Milk

This recipe is more creating a milk from quinoa. Quinoa, a "grain" from South America ('tis actually a seed), is a great source of Iron and calcium, as well as being a complete protein. This makes it a good choice for individuals who (for whatever reason) do not consume dairy products.

The recipe is based off of the one found here:
http://www.kimmykokonut.com/2008/05/22/teaching-and-cooking-in-peru-with-food-pictures/

Please note: this milk has a consistency of thin porridge before straining.
After straining, depending on the amount of water added, it should have a consistency of rice milk.

This milk has a nutty flavor. It tastes a bit like unsweetened soy milk. You can of course, add sweeteners and flavorings to your quinoa milk (I recommend almond extract) so you can probably get it to a taste that is very similar to commercially purchased rice or almond milk.

Good luck! -- posted by Chef #1354715

Banana Almond Date Soy Smoothie

This vegan smoothie is amazingly rich, creamy, filling, and healthy. It has a nice texture to it from the almonds and a natural sweetness from the banana and dates. I like that there is no refined sugar added or any animal products, all good for us and the planet. I like using a frozen banana to make the drink cold, but room temperature works well too. If you want to freeze bananas, peel them before freezing. Peeling frozen bananas doesn't work! And place them separated in the freezer so they don't freeze together. -- posted by Chef #1363287

Yogurt Breakfast Smoothie

I make one of these shakes for breakfast almost every morning. Sometimes I make extra for a quick snack mid-morning too. The intent of this is something filling, but healthy.

Sometimes I will sometimes mix in 1t of some kind of protein powder (e.g., whey powder) if I need the extra filling nature of protein. Be mindful of how much protein powder is added as it can make the shake very filling -- I used to to 1T but that was far too much.

As a note, I used to mix with a hand blender wand. I found that did not give the smoothie the same fluffiness, but it was passable. -- posted by John W

Berry Yoghurt Smoothie

I got this recipe from Sarah Owen's book "The Top 100 juices", published by Lifetime Distributers, Castle Hill, Australia.
Sarah Owen says "The super-nutrient vitamin C is needed for more than 300 diferent processes in the body, but it is easily wiped out by smoking, pollution and stress. Found in abundance in berries, vitamin C and other antioxidants help to quash the damaging free radicals that are associated with many illnesses."
The original recipe calls for natural bio yoghurt to be used, but any yoghurt will do.
This makes a large amount of smoothie, and if you're making it just for yourself, I'ld recommend halving it.
I hope you enjoy this healthy - but still tasty - smoothie :) -- posted by TALIA #3

Veggie Green Drink

I came up with this one night after a long drive from New York to Philadelphia. All I had eaten were french fries, so I was desperate to get some greens into me fast! This drink took care of the craving right away. The stevia helps to blunt the harsh taste of the veggies. If you want to make it a soup, use less water and perhaps add some spices instead of the stevia. Also, the yogurt can easily be omitted if you are vegan or have dairy issues; just use less water, -- posted by Jainene
