The great thing about this recipe is that it can also be kept warm in the oven, whilst the spooky activities are in action, or dad is still trying to light the DAMP fireworks in the garden!! I use green cabbage but I don't see why you couldn't use the purple kind if it is your preference. Sometimes my granny would add some cubed potatoes but I usually forget and don't really care for the addition. Actually I guess there are a lot of things you could add to this to make it your own. 			<description>I found this recipe in The Best of The Best of Idaho Cookbook/Caldera Kitchens.  This is different from any jambalaya I've ever tried because of the roux (which has a nice gravy texture) and the spicy rice, but it's comfort food at it's finest.  Although a little labor intensive, it's well worth the end result.  I used chicken, crab, and spicy smoked sausage, but use what you have on hand or what your tastebuds prefer.  The original recipe calls for 1/2 teaspoon file' (optional), but I left it out of the recipe because it wasn't recognized as a food when I tried posting it. 			<description>This is the recipe I make every year for the Super Bowl, for my boyfriend and two dozen or so of his closest beer-drinking, football-watching friends. 

The problem with trying to find a good chili recipe is that what makes a &amp;quot;good&amp;quot; chili is a personal opinion; my idea of a great chili may be very different from yours. My chili is heavy on the meat, garlic and spice; rather rich-tasting, hearty, thick, fiery, and smoky. If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, I'm also going to include plenty of advice on how to adjust it to meet your tastes.

You can add a cup of yellow corn, a can of diced chiles or chopped jarred pimientos just before the end of cooking time for a shot of color and flavor, or sprinkle in a few drops of hot sauce.  Also, instead of sausage, you could stir  in cut-up leftover ham, chicken or beef.  Or try chicken or turkey sausage. Feel free to use any cream soup ( celery, mushroom, potato would be good too.)  This burger is as local as it gets, both in taste and ingredients. The patties are tender and juicy, thanks to fresh papaya and sweet onion, and are spiced with Hawaiian Portuguese sausage, which is so popular in Hawaii that it is on every breakfast menu (including McDonald&amp;amp;#8217;s). The accompanying salad employs heating oil to its smoking point, a local cooking method, resulting in a dynamite burger accompaniment. To complete the Hawaiian flavoring, I added a sweet glaze (Hawaiians love sweet and savory) and was inspired by our award-winning goat dairy to create a mouth-watering ginger-infused cheese spread. The recipe uses beef sausages, but obviously you could use your favourite sausages.  You could also vary the capsicums (or peppers) and use more than one coloured pepper; and you could add a slice of onion onto the skewer.  My personal preference is red peppers, but just go with your preference! 			<description>I am lucky enough to live in the Cognac and Pineau grape growing area of South West France - we also grow grapes for the excellent local (Charente-Maritime) wine in this area. Our woodman, Monsieur Jacquot, has a small chateau with several vineyards, and every year we are invited to join in on the first or last day of the &amp;quot;Vendange&amp;quot; - the grape harvest. And, every year, Madame Jacquot prepares and cooks the most delicious food for all of the grape pickers, family and invited friends. This year (2009) the harvest started on the 1st October, and this is the dish she made for us, served simply with fresh salads, assorted local breads, local butter, cheese and of course local wine, pineau and cognac. I asked her for the recipe and she rattled out the ingredients at a rapid pace, whilst I scribbled them down on the back of an envelope!  I have recreated this recipe at home twice now, and this is ALMOST as good as hers is! (Mind you, she set hers out on long tables with white linen and beautiful old vintage crockery.......I found out that the white linen were bed sheets! NEVER used on a bed she stressed, kept for large gatherings.) The key to this recipe is SIMPLICITY and GOOD sausages and wine. I used local Toulouse sausages, meaty and with a high 85% meat content. But you can use ANY good, meaty sausages that you have available locally - I bet high quality venison or Angus beef sausages would be brilliant in this dish. Also, DO try to source Lentilles Vert de Puy  green Puy lentils; they make all the difference to this wonderful harvest dish. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we did, sitting at the long table in the old barn, under ancient beams and with beaming faces and loud laughter. ( PS: I cut this recipe RIGHT back from 30 people to just 4! Due to the transferring of Hungarian regimental troops to Austria,  goulash found its way into Viennese cuisine. The Fiaker goulash is a special Viennese version of this fiery-spicy delicacy from the Puszta.  Although 2 1/2 hours stovetop and 45 minutes in the oven seem like a long time, the results are excellent.  This is one of the richest tasting goulash I've ever ate and it is my husband's favorite.  The addition of fried egg (sunnyside up) really adds too. Actually, research shows Marzetti's Restaurant in Columbus, Ohio was the source of this great comfort food dish back in the 20's (..is it still there?). Have seen ingredients of several versions of this dish here, but none with all these great ingredients. This is an ultimate comfort food that is even better at the second and third sitting.
