Spicy Soy Glazed Short Ribs (Slow Cooker)

The flavor on these ribs is slightly sweet, slightly spicy, and the meat melts in your mouth. Definitely easier than the traditional method of hours long attended cooking. These can be served as an appetizer/party dish (would serve 6) or as an entree (would serve 4).
Easy Sweet & Savory Korean BBQ Grilled Beef Short Ribs (Kal

This is probably the best homemade Korean grilled beef dish EVER, no exaggeration. I guess you can think of it as a Korean-style beef teriyaki. It is my daughter's favorite way to eat meat and I've never met an American who didn't like it.
I was surprised not to find any other kalbi recipe on the zaar, though there are many for braised short ribs and the other korean bbq beef, bulgogi. Kalbi is simple and delicious.

Growing up, I typically only had kalbi on special occasions, family holiday dinners, church picnics, and the like. In a restaurant, it can get very pricey but it's a real treat of an experience to have kalbi cooked right at the table and have all sorts of side dishes to eat with it.
This recipe is also very flexible: easily doubled; any sweeteners can work in place of sugar (pear juice, honey, brown sugar); easily fried in a skillet or broiled in the oven or grilled... You can serve with just rice, or go all out restaurant-style and serve with red lettuce leaves for wrapping, spicy bean paste, slices of garlic cloves, sliced up scallions and kimchi. It's up to you! The only important thing to remember is the proportion of sugar to soy sauce to water that will result in the best combination of sweet and savory.
Prep time does not include marinating time. -- posted by olivejuice

Beef With Guajillo Sauce Baked in Banana Leaves - Mixiote De Car

These are fragrant parcels of succulent meat seasoned with mildly sweet Guajillo Chiles. Everyone swoons over these. Cook's Note: meat can be marinated, in bowl or enclosed in banana-leaf packages, up to 24 hours. Meat is best eaten from freshly baked banana-leaf packages, but left overs will keep for 3 days. Reheat, wrapped in foil, in a 350°F oven, 20 to 30 minutes.
3-Step Fall off the Bone Ribs---- Easy!

NOTE THE TEMPERATURE CHANGE HALF WAY THROUGH THE COOKING! The "three steps" to this involve browning the ribs with your favorite seasonings, then with the sauce, then covering with foil and forgetting about them. The ingredient amounts are completely flexible and are all done to personal taste. I couldn't post the recipe without a measurement, but really... it's your own preference. Don't be afraid of the long list of directions, I tried to be exact. Thankfully, my dad taught me his recipe before he passed away. This is a good recipe to start the cooking, then turn the oven down and forget about it. The house will smell amazing! -- posted by Brittta

Korean Beef BBQ (Kalbi/Galbi)

This is the best marinade for the Korean beef ribs. The meat is cut in a style called flanken, across the ribs to make the marinade go deeply into the grain of the meat. This recipe was tweaked by a Korean market and my observations from my ex Korean mother-in-law.

Beef Short Ribs With Rigatoni

The success of this dish really depends on meaty ribs, or fatty ones, so get to know your butcher and look for well marbled ribs without a lot of fat. Ask for an English cut, which means pieces that are between 2 and 4 inches long. Slow cooking produces the tenderest and most delicious flavor and the entire casserole can be assembled and cooked hours before it is needed and just reheated, or cooked the day before. Either way, it is a winner.
Pressed for time? Try making this in a crock pot. Set it and forget it, and come home to a great dinner. -- posted by Cooks4_6

Slow Cooker Short Ribs

This is a wonderful slow cooker recipe for this type of meat, which tends to be pretty fatty. You might want to trim the fat before you brown the ribs.
Braised Short Ribs

I saw a version of this recipe using Lamb Chops on a Food Network show, and decided to try it with short ribs, it turned out great. I put ranges on some of the ingredients because I don't really measure, just use my judgement based on the amount of meat you are using.
Beef Ribs Braised in Red Wine

This came from one of my cooking magazines. Every single bite had the juicy taste of red wine (only cook this meal, if you enjoy the taste of red wine), and the beef was so tender, I've never had ribs so flavorful. This meal does need alittle attenion, so cook it on a day when you have a lot of free time!! ... -- posted by Asheats

Bistro-Style Short Ribs

Based on a Tyler's Ultimate recipe, I streamlined some of this and it's a wonderful comfort food dinner. It can also be made in the crock pot, just use a bit less liquid, or be sure to boil down the sauce at the end. This is best made the day before because you can then refrigerate it, remove the fat, and the flavors have had a chance to meld. Really good with garlic mashed potatoes or thick noodles. -- posted by DeeCooks

Auntie Em's Steak and Potato Pie

I needed to use up some potatoes and found this recipe on msnbc.com. This is from her restaurant, and it's the best pot pie. It's so good that if you decide to leave the meat out you won't notice. It is a labor of love if you make the homemade pie crust (pate brisee), but the flaky buttery crust is half of what makes it so good. The crust recipe reminds me of my favorite pie crust recipe that calls for ice water and lemon juice. When I made the crust I filled a small cup with ice cubes and added tap water. Keep in mind, if you use salted butter you won't need salt in the dough. I didn't have any cognac for the pie filling, but I added some tequila. It cooks out anyway. INCREDIBLY EDIBLE! You'll go back for seconds and then keep nibbling on it... -- posted by AmyZoe

Root Beer-Braised Short Ribs With Sesame Seeds

Root beer and sesame seeds is the flavor pairing McCormick spotlights in this recipe. Might opt for more than the recipe calls for. The article's author served the ribs with mashed potatoes (omitting the 2 pounds peeled and chunked sweet potatoes the original recipe added to the pot for the last hour of cooking). Being a Southerner, I put 'em back... where they belong.

Korean Braised Short Ribs (Galbi Jim)

At my place, we do theme dinner parties, and this one was from Korean night. I had tried different versions of this recipe, and after mixing and matching, I like this one the best. The addition of Sriracha - an Asian chile/garlic paste also known as "Rooster Sauce" - was my embellishment, and probably not authentic - but I like sweet & spicy! The authentic preparation calls for bone-in short ribs to get more flavor, but I have to admit, I've done it with boneless, and I actually like it better that way. I served it with rice and a Korean cold spinach-sesame salad known as Shigmchi Namul, which I'll post also. Two words: Rave Reviews! They went back for seconds and thirds! -- posted by Spice Boy

Zinfandel-Braised Beef Short Ribs

I was on my home from the grocery, all set to make a different recipe, when I stopped at the library and saw this one in the May 2009 issue of Bon Appetit. I had to sub potatoes for the parsnips and used chicken broth instead of beef, but ended up very pleased with this recipe. I did not thicken the gravy, but include the instructions for doing so. This goes very well with mashed potatoes. -- posted by duonyte

Auntie Lolo's Ribs

This recipe comes from my Auntie LoLo. It's the best ribs I've ever tasted and the easiest by far to prepare. Can't beat scrumptious simplicity!
We usually get the country ribs, but you can use any ribs you so choose.
These are her instructions. We tend to triple the recipe because these taste sooo good the next day, also! My Aunt will cook them for up to 4 hours. But, 2 is as long as we can stand before digging in! YUM!!! -- posted by Chef D's

Short Ribs Barefoot Contessa Style

These are sooo delicious! I make these the day before you want to eat them...a good thing to do as the flavors marry and you can remove any extra fat easily. Tho not necessary, after oven browning the beef as instructed, I quickly pan sear them to really get that caramelization. I then deglaze the pan with some of the wine and add it to my dutch oven. You may need more wine, use your judgement. Some folks like to remove the veggies at the end, but I leave them in. When you only need a bit of tomato paste like this recipe, I love the tomato paste in a tube, like a toothpaste product, if you can find it, it lasts forever in the fridge. This is adapted from Food Network, Barefoot Contessa. Hope you enjoy! -- posted by Scoutie

Ronnie's Cabbage Soup

Ronnie's was a great Jewish type deli restaurant on Highway 50 on the east side of Orlando. I have fond memories of it from the early 80's on. Sometime in the 90's, I think, it closed. They used to have stainless bowls on the tables with pickles, sauerkraut, pickled beets, etc. I don't live in the Orlando area any more, but my mom does and she cut this recipe out of the Orlando Sentinel for me from a column they have called "Thought You'd Never Ask" where they get recipes from local restaurants. I haven't made this myself yet, but I thought I'd put it here for safekeeping. I will also add this Test Kitchen note: "We used only 1/2 cup sugar preparing this recipe. That amount could even be cut back to 2 tablespoons." -- posted by DeniseBC

Man O Man, is this ever good, the coleslaw is awesome on this sandwich!
I add 3 cloves of minced garlic. I can see this meat over some pasta as well, so not just for a sandwich! I took another reviewer's advice on the Food Network site and turned my oven up to 400 degrees after the 90 minutes of cooking (on 375 degrees) and continued to cook the meat for an additional hour. Next time I would make double the ribs, so we have some leftovers. This is adapted from Food Network, Big Daddy's show.
