Dawn's Cincinnati Chili

My S/O had this recipe from his best friend and we tweaked it a bit to create exactly what we like. I love it as hot dog chili, but we eat it over spagetti, topped with shredded cheese, oyster crackers, chopped onions and sour cream. We've had nachos with this, great for movie watching! I would love to add chili beans, but he doesn't care for them so that hasn't happened yet, but I bet it would be good!

We make a batch and freeze 1/2 every time. It's so easy to just pull it out, defrost/heat and you have a meal in minutes. -- posted by For JT's Grandma

Quick & Easy Chili

This is a very easy chili recipe I got from a Pampered Chef recipe called Hearty Six-Can Chili I found a few years ago and just leave out the 10 3/4 oz can of condensed cream of mushroom soup. I love to make this and serve with tortilla chips, sour cream and cheddar cheese. Yummy! -- posted by Sylvia #1309203

Chili Cheese Dogs (Tyler Florence)

This recipe was found on foodnetwork.ca. This is the first chili dog sauce that I have tried. I found it a little sweet (as a lot of the reviewers stated) and had to tweak it. I think it is due to using ketchup as it has a lot of sugar. I added an additional teaspoon of chili powder, three dashes of Worcestershire sauce, a 1/4 teaspoon of red chili flakes and approximately 1 teaspoon of hot sauce. The weird thing was that I couldn't taste it much once on a bun with a BBQ wiener. Is it my taste buds? In the pan, it was tasty :D -- posted by SuzieQutie

Savory Chocolate Chili

This is not just delicious, it is an attractive chili. The yellow corn kernels and the red peppers shine like gems against the dark mahogany of the chili, and if you choose to top it with bright white sour cream, fresh green cilantro and creamy cheese, well, they say that presentation is 90% of the meal! Excellent with a good corn bread. -- posted by Lando

Mexican Beef Chili

From "The Essential Rice Cookbook." This is a hearty meal that could also be used as a side. I have tried substituting pork instead of beef, but it really needs the deep flavor of red meat. Also, it isn't very spicy, so you may want to add more spice. Serve with sour cream and warm flour tortillas, or just eat it from a bowl. -- posted by Da Huz

Hot Rod Chili

As alot of you know this, some cars have V-8 motors and some people call them " Hot Rods ". I had some V-8 juice that needed to be used up and I wanted chili, so this recipe and the name for it was was born.Like a V-8 motor this chili has a bit of a kick. I can't take the credit for naming this, my SO came up with the title.:) Depending on how thick or thin you like your chili, just adjust the amount of V-8 juice. And then adjust the seasonings according to your tastes.
This does look like confetti--before it cooks forever--but there is still color left at the end!
Pondfrogs Prickly Pear Cactus Chili

who'da thought prickly pear cactus plants would be delicious! I tried cactus chili at a restaurant and loved it. they taste a bit like green beans. I tried to duplicate it at home and think I came pretty close. my 14 yr old son loves it!I I can't find fresh cactus (flat pad nopales) in my area but I did find some already prepared in a jar at a grocery store in the mexican food isle. if you use fresh you need to clean/cook them first (you can google how to prepare fresh cactus). this chili is not very spicy so if you like it hot use more chili powder. I like v8 vegetable juice and fresh tomatoes but can be made with tomato juice and diced canned tomatoes. it's a very simple recipe that can be altered easily for taste preferences. I am thinking I may try it with ground turkey or chicken sometime. I think it would also be good with no meat for a vegetarian meal. freezes well. makes a large pot. -- posted by pondfrogs

Hearty Dakota Chili (Crock Pot)

This is my own recipe i came up with for chili, combining what i thought was the best parts of several standard recipes. This has good flavor but is not for those who like a thin chili or one with lots of veggies. This is a thick hearty version that relies more on seasonings than chili peppers, though if you really like them you can certainly add them in, especially if you like your chili really spicy. I'd say this is more of a medium spiciness that suits my tastes. Don't let the long list throw you off, it's mostly things that are easy to keep on hand :)
Hope you enjoy it :) -- posted by PickleLover

Ten Year Chili

This Texas-style chili recipe gets its name from the fact that I spent 10+ years creating and tweaking it in an effort to create a "heat-free" chili. In the last 10 years, however, I've really acquired a taste for the spice, so I've started adding chipotle for heat because I really like the flavor it adds. If you want a chili that even kids can eat, leave out the chipotle.

This recipe is much easier than it looks, and is extremely forgiving. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we have - and as with all my recipes, experiment to perfection! -- posted by TadGhostal

Prize Winning 3 Bean Chili

Well, this is the result of being "volunteered" to represent my husband's motorcycle club in an annual chili cookoff. I truely think the quality of your spices will determine the quality of the finished product so buy the best spices you can afford. I've found that the local health food stores often sell really good spices in bulk. This is not a terribly spicy chili but does pack a bit of a kick - adjust the spices to your taste. I did end up winning 1st place - over 42 other teams - not bad for less than a week's notice! I like to preassemble everything I'm going to need the night before - makes it easy to throw together the day of and just let it cook. -- posted by HSingARMYmom

Family Favorite Chili

I found this recipe several years ago at the service meat counter in our local supermarket and tweeked it a little. I also call it 'Really Good Chili That's a Whole Lotta Work' but my guys love it so what can I do? It can be 1/2 diced beef and 1/2 ground beef but we like it all diced. It's pretty mild so add more chili powder and chopped chilis if you like it hot. I also use trimmed stew beef instead of a roast, costs a bit more but its quicker to cut up. Prep time includes browning the beef and onions. It's good left over also. -- posted by greksgirl

Johnny Jalapeno's Thieving Bandit Chili

Many years ago, Johnny had stolen this recipe from 2Bleu. Well, the law finally caught him but to save Johnny from a hangin for stealin, 2Bleu told the judge that while it was indeed their recipe, they had given it to Johnny as a gift and planned on putting his name on the cans. 2Bleu just didn't have the heart to see Johnny hangin from a noose (especially since he was secretly their cousin, twice removed). ;) Adjust the jalapeno, cayenne, and chili powder to your desired heat level. For an all-out exlusive dish, try spooning this chili over Recipe #378927! -- posted by 2Bleu

Chili for 2 ( or 4 )

I found this in the 2003 Taste of Home Annual Recipes cookbook. It was sent to them by Norma Grogg of St. Louis, Missouri. Since I like a meatier chili, an extra 1/4 pound of ground beef was added. But even if the extra beef hadn't been added, I still think it would be enough for 4. After simmering, I did a " taste test " and added some crushed red pepper flakes for more heat. If you don't add the crushed red pepper, it's very mild. If desired add some cheese to each serving.
Chili Even My Mom Likes!

When my mom says something I've cooked is good and not just "OK" or "it needs more salt" (and that is not often), then I've got a winner. The seasonings for this chili recipe are borrowed from Rachel Ray's Indian Summer Turkey Chili which I think are a great and very tasty combination. You can spice it up even more according to your taste, and play around with the type of ground meat--beef, turkey, venison or chicken even!
Microwave Chili

This is the chili I remember eating as a child before microwaves were invented. This can be made in the microwave in about 30 min. but I prefer making it on the stove and then simmering it for an hour or so. The oregano is optional, I myself do not use it.
Serve what you need then freeze the rest. For quick defrosting and heating, divide into single servings and package in shallow freezer boxes or heat seal-able bags. -- posted by Catnip46

Karen's Chili for a Party

My first recipe I'm posting here on Zaar. Please tell me if you find any mistakes. Everyone loves this chili. It makes a whole big pot of it. Add more or less of any ingredients you wish. I don't drain the beans but do so if you want. I use it in my soup warmer for parties. Im guessing on servings, I never really took a count,,,I usually do buffets and this is plenty with the other foods. This freezes well. I usually cook ahead of time, For parties freeze in 2.5 gallons ziplock and defrost the night before. Great for parties, superbowl or just OAMC put into smaller ziplock bags. This taste better the next day when all the flavors come together. I don't have the size pots so I divide it into 2 pots, 6 and 8 qt. I hope you don't have same problem lol. -- posted by Karen Guerra

Chili Cook off Chili

This past October some friends of ours had a chili cook off. It was tons of fun and really made us put a lot of though into coming up with the best Chili recipe. This is a recipe that my husband found on the internet that received 3rd place in the chili cook off. We have cooked this a few times since then. If you use to much hot sauce this chili can be spicy.

Homemade Chili

Any time I see beef on sale, I think chili. This recipe comes together very easily and can be modified to fit your needs. I wrote an hour cook time but as long as you do not allow the chili to thicken too much and stick to the bottom of the pot, you can simmer for as long as necessary. If the chili does start to stick, add a cup of water at a time until it loosens. I served with a steam in the bag portion of Spanish rice and it was delicious! Feel free to garnish with whatever you like including cheese and sour cream. -- posted by carrie680

Crock Pot Beef Chili Beans

Very easy to put together. I have a 6qt All-clad crock pot with the insert that I'm able to use on the stove top as well, which comes in sooo handy. Otherwise, just brown your beef in a large skillet, drain, and transfer to your crockpot. This makes a good size batch so if your crock pot is much smaller, just try cutting the recipe in half. If you work during the day, this can be thrown together the evening before, stuck in the fridge, then started before you leave for work. Can't get any easier than that! -- posted by Noni Suzanne

Randy's Almost Famous Chili

I developed this Chili recipe several years ago & I take great pride in it. There's no "secret" ingredients...just plain & simple. It's become a family & friend favorite...my brother-in-law is considered a "chili connoisseur" & he says it's the best he has ever had! One time, a friend's wife ate 5 bowls of it, that I KNOW of.....YIKES!!! Hope you enjoy it, too! BTW....I do NOT put in kidney beans or macaroni, but you do whatever you like.
Easy Hearty Chili

This is a hearty chili without tomato chunks. If you prefer chucks of tomato in your chili use diced tomatoes instead of tomato sauce. This is just enough for a lunch for my husband, our toddler, and myself, but if we need a bit more I'd go to the 22 oz size of tomato sauce and or beans. Do not leave out the salt since the little bit really brings out the other flavors. IF you making a large pot to have left overs leave out the salt since chili always gets saltier as it stores. I started with another chili recipe I found here, but we made several modifications so I am posting it as is. -- posted by Vyrianna

Chili Your Way

This recipe originally came from one of those Gooseberry Patch cookbooks but I added more ingredients and doctored this chili up quite a bit. When I first tried it, it seemed to need more than the original recipe. Here is what I came up with and usually it's a hit. I like to add a little red pepper flakes (not cayenne) cause with the pepper flakes you can play around with the temp of it. I like this on hot dogs too! This is definately one of those recipes that you can eyeball without measuring and fit to your liking! ps- I do not eat venison, but made this recipe using venison and people went even more crazy for it! guess it must taste just as good as the ground beef version? -- posted by D.

This recipe was on the Today Show from Jason Miller. It is the best chili recipe I have ever had. Its sweet, spicy and has added heat. I can not get enough of it! Enjoy! -- posted by KsuKitty

Cincinnati Style Chili

I have always loved Skyline Chili. I'm not from Cincinnati, but have been there. This is a combination of recipes I used to make one that has worked for me. I made it for the big superbowl party my family has every year. They loved it! I've never made it from scratch before because I didn't know what all was in the sauce. I had always used sauce packets from the grocery store. When the store was out, I had to come up with another solution. I love to cook and experiment. So...this is what I came up with. Enjoy! -- posted by earth_angel79
