Butterscotch Bars

Yet another yummy treat from Cooking Light. Each bar is about 150 calories. Tip: If you can't handle eating just one. Cut them up, put in indifidual bags and put in freezer. This works great with most cookie/bars. -- posted by seesko

Date Nut Dream Bars

There are many variations of this recipe and I have tried several. This is the one I like best. It is a very versatile recipe because you may substitute whatever dried fruits or nuts you have on hand for what the recipe calls for. The base is a delicious, buttery shortbread and I love the butter icing. Store these in the fridge so that the icing stays firm. -- posted by Irmgard

Cream Cheese Swirl Brownies

The most perfect brownie recipe I have ever made. They're soft, yet sturdy and the perfect amount of chocolate- not to sweet or rich... just right. And, wonderful presentation, too! I would be proud to serve these to company any day!! One warning, the pan size specified is uncommon and not one that I own. I use a 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 pan and bake them for 35-40 minutes. They are done when set in the middle- do not let get brown on top. -- posted by Munchkin Mama

Swag Bars (Chocolate & Peanut Butter Bars)

This recipe was in the Jan/Feb 2009 issue of Cooking Light magazine. It was in their "Lighten Up" section - where a reader can submit a favorite recipe and COoking Light will make it healthier. This was very tasty and the kids LOVED them. Next time I might try and sub honey or brown rice syrup for the HFCS. I also increased the chocolate a teeny bit and spread it over the bars instead of drizzling it. -- posted by dukeswalker

Chocolate and Cherry Brownies

These heavenly brownies are quick, easy and totally indulgent. They are perfect at tea-time or equally delicious served with crème fraîche as a treat after lunch or dinner with friends. Make sure you use the correct size baking or roasting tin and take care not to overcook them. As a rule, when you start to smell them they are usually close to being done: you are better off removing them too soon and putting them back, which does them no harm at all! Try adding nuts or other dried fruits as an alternative to the cherries, or make plain chocolate brownies without any extras at all. -- posted by English_Rose

Peanut Butter & Fudge Brownies

These are very rich and decadent brownies from baking maven Dorie Greenspan and printed in Bon Appétit Magazine (January 2007). For a smoother texture, you can put the peanuts in the frosting, omit them entirely, or replace them with peanut butter chips. There are a few steps to follow, but it really is a simple recipe and so worth it!
Chewy, Loaded, Oatmeal, Peanut Butter Bar "cookies"

I came up with these last night, and am so pleasantly surprised at the result!
I wasn't in the mood (or didn't have time) to do the cookie thing, so I decided to make a bar cookie, but had a hard time finding a recipe that had the ingredients that I had in mind, so I came up with my own. These are also good for breakfast and have wholesome ingredients, although admittedly not low in fat. You can vary this to your own personal taste by adding any kind of chopped dried fruit and/or nuts, and of course you could add chocolate pieces as well. These were easy to make, and didn't take a lot of time. ** See peanut allergy note below! -- posted by Yrhaven (aka Condiment Queen)

My pantry is running very low on baking supplies, but I had a box of raisin-bran cereal that had too many raisins that I wanted to use up. So, I chose to adapt my other recipe: Recipe #357474 using what I had on hand. I think this turned out really nice and entirely different from the original version.
Samoas Bars - Just Like the Girl Scout Cookies!

Exceptional Passover Brownies

This recipe is from Claire Sauerhoff, pastry chef and owner of a New York bakery called "The Exceptional Brownie". Her bakery won COPIA'S "Best Darn Brownie Contest".
To achieve a fudgy result, be careful that you don't overbake the brownies. After 35 minutes, begin to test for doneness with a cake tester or a toothpick that you stick in the middle of the pan. You're looking for the tester to come out with just a little batter on the end. -- posted by blucoat

Super Vegan Chocolate Chip Squares

These were originally, in Louise Hagler's "Tofu Cookery", named chocolate chip bars- however, when we modified the recipe a bit, they turned out more cakey. So, let it suffice to call them squares! They may be lower fat, but they are *really* good. -- posted by White Rose Child

British Fig Rolls - Almost Better Than Shop Bought!

This is a recipe I found many years ago for authentic Fig Rolls, and they are almost better than the shop bought variety, much though I love the commercial ones! Try to roll out the pastry as thinly as possible, other than that, this recipe is a breeze to make. Fig rolls are a much-loved "biscuit" from my childhood days and I make them whenever I can as I now live in France, as we cannot get them here. Fig rolls are great for a mid-morning snack with a cuppa as well as being ideal for school lunchboxes, picnics, gifts and afternoon tea. (I have posted this recipe on Zaar especially for Lalaloula, who asked about a fig roll recipe in the British forum.) -- posted by French Tart

Snickerdoodle Blondies

I've seen this recipe on several food blogs and was obsessed with them. Being a big fan of Snickerdoodle cookies, I knew the moment I saw these I had to give them a whirl. What impressed me most about this recipe was that it was super basic, no need to run out and buy anything special, just raid your fridge and pantry and bake away! These are super easy to make and will have your house smelling heavenly in 10 minutes. These bars go great with a cup of piping hot coffee! Now get obsessed with these bars and get to baking! My hats off to Julia of Dozen Flours who created this new favorite of my family and friends :) Now everyone asks me for the recipe! I have not seen this recipe on Zaar, so I am posting it here to share! -- posted by Vseward (Chef~V)

Bake Sale Time: Rice Krispies W/ Malted Milk Ball Bars

Here's one to add to your bake sale repertoire--and they'll be just enough different [but still the same thing] to get the kids curious, and good enough that they'll sell like "hot cakes!" Save a couple for the home-folks, because you won't be bringing any home when you take these to the potluck or family reunion picnic! I use two bowls (recycle the first one) so I have everything ready to pour and mix--goes much quicker and no wasting time to measure when the stuff is hot!
London's Borough Market Chocolate Brownies

Borough market brownie-maker Matt Jones shared his infamous dense chocolate brownie recipe on BBC Good Food, and I am posting it here for safe-keeping! For anyone who has tasted one of these brownies, the experience is sublime.......deep, intense and chewy brownies that are packed full of lucious chocolate! Borough Market is London's oldest food market, its origins date back from the time when the Romans built the original London Bridge. And, although it has moved from where it was originally established, Borough Market has occupied its current site for the last 250 years. You can find both food and non-food items in this market, but locals regularly go here to get fresh produce from various parts of the British Isles. One of the most popular foodie treats in the market, is the ostrich burger, as well as these delicious brownies. Makes 12 LARGE squidgy brownies. -- posted by French Tart

Asa Ransom House Brownie Mania

In 1799, the Holland Land Company offered lots 10 miles apart in what is now Clarence, New York, to "any proper man who would build and operate a tavern upon it". A young silversmith named Asa Ransom, had been plying his trade in the little fur trading post on the shores of Lake Erie. He was among the first to accept this opportunity and in the hollow of the ledge, near a pine grove, built a log home & tavern. In 1803, he built a grist mill, the first in Erie County. Over time, the business has evolved into a charming inn noted for it's authenticity, hospitality and cuisine. -- posted by Molly53
