Lava Flow

While temporarily stationed at Hickam AFB in Honolulu, Hawaii I had my very first Lava Flow experience. Needless to say, it was love at first sip. These are VERY good and VERY addicting. This is the closest, easiest, and best duplicate of the true Hawaiian lava flow, so ENJOY! And if you ever get the chance to go to Hawaii for yourself, you've just got to try 'em on the beach with their fresh pineapple. GOOD STUFF!!! (Prep time is freeze time for strawberry mixture, and cook time is approximate mix & blend time.) -- posted by F-16 momma

I found this recipe on the alohaworld website (http://alohaworld.com/ono) and just adore it! I'm always looking for a good banana bread recipe and this one fits the bill!
Fruit Pizza

A good friend of mine used to make this for our youth group a lot. It was a big favorite. Years later I still crave it although I lighten it up a bit with fat-free ingredients and splenda rather than sugar. Obviously, you don't have to use the fat-free ingredients if you don't want. Cook time does not include time to cool crust. -- posted by Empire920

Thick Coffee Banana Smoothie

There are a few little preparation quirks that distinguish a good smoothie from a great one - at least in my book. For one, I like to par-freeze the fruit I'm using - not rock solid, mind you - because it helps thicken the drink; room temperature fruit only thins it. Ditto for the liquid I use, in this case coffee - usually left over from the pot I've made that morning. As prepared here, this smoothie has a mild coffee flavor, but if you want a stronger coffee kick then go ahead and use some double strength brewed coffee that has been well chilled. -- posted by Annacia

This is adapted from Smoothies & Summer Drinks. Freezing the bananas ahead of time makes for a thicker smoothie.
Healthy Low-Fat Banana Zucchini Bread

This bread is a combination of zucchini and banana bread, and it is a wonderful way to use up old bananas and dip into that summer harvest of zucchini. The bread tastes more like banana bread than zucchini bread, but it has the added nutritional benefits of vegetables. This bread is lower in fat that the standard banana/zucchini bread because applesauce replaces some of the oil in the recipe. Still using some oil, however, will prevent the bread from getting rubbery. Experiment by using pumpkin instead of bananas during the autumn months or by adding walnuts and dates! This recipe makes 2 loaves. Enjoy! -- posted by Chef-girl-OV

Pineapple and Banana Smoothie

Another one that I got the base from: "Brain Foods For Kids: Over 100 Recipes To Boost Your Child's Intelligence." I got it as a send-in freebie from Kashi. The original recipe called for one mango, but we substituted for pineapple as we don't go crazy for mango. Also it called for plain yogurt but we always have vanilla in the frig.
My son didn't care for it much but he won't drink any smoothies even though he loves fruit. The rest of us loved it. -- posted by DbKnadler

Peanut Butter, Banana and Sultanas Sandwiches or Pinwheel Style

Yummy little snack for little kids or big kids. Alternatively, you can use either two slices of the same bread (either two white bread or two wholemeal bread) it's just to make it look pretty and healthy for kids. The pinwheel style is difficult to do without making a mess so if you don't like a mess or a challenge. You can use two more slice of bread and place them on the top, this will then be a serving size for two. Please be careful with nuts, we don't give Little Miss (DD) nuts because her cousin has a severe nut allergy. -- posted by Chef floWer

Mexican Banana Splits

From Vegetarian Times. This is very good. I had a bit of trouble getting the 6" tortillas to fit in the muffin cup, but I folded them in a bit and it worked. It took longer than the 7 minutes for them to be crispy enough, but I could also open them up a bit to get more ice cream in once I put them in bowls. I also used 1/2 C hot cocoa mix (presweetened) for the sauce and it turned out great. You could even dip any leftover tortilla cups in any leftover sauce.
Lynn's Super Smoothie

This is a vegan smoothie from Healthy Kids by Marilu Henner. She uses a lot of soy, but you could sub. regular cow's milk products. This makes a really thick smoothie. The database wouldn't accept 2 capsules of acidophilus, which is in the recipe. I don't think it's critical, though! I added 1 capsule of enzymes instead. -- posted by WI Cheesehead

Banana Colada (Non-Dairy Mocktail)

A luscious-looking drink for all you coconut lovers out there (like me!) who want something smooth and creamy, but don't want or can't have alcohol or dairy. I found this over at the World's Healthiest Foods site while browsing their recipe collection. This variation on the more traditional pina colada recipe is a good cure any tropical cravings you might have! You'll want to make sure to use ripe bananas for this recipe, as it will provide more flavor and sweetness that way. Also, make sure to use only enough liquid to keep the blender going. NOTE: Cook time is freezing time for the bananas. If you're like me and usually have leftover ripe bananas already in the freezer waiting to be used, this recipe is a snap to put together. -- posted by Lynne the Pirate Queen

Banana Passionfruit Smoothie (21 Day Wonder Diet: Day 16)

This is Day 16: Breakfast, on the 21 Day Wonder Diet. This is a delicious smoothie, and one of my favourite breakfasts on this diet! You can use a different flavoured yogurt if you prefer, but I think the passionfruit is perfect in it. This breakfast is to be followed by a mid-morning snack of 1 lebanese cucumber, cut into sticks and served with 1 tablespoon of low-fat cottage cheese. -- posted by Sara 76

Avocado, Banana and Mango Muffins

An unusual combination, to be sure, but one that looks so good I just had to share! I've recently discovered the wonders of avocados, and have been trying to find new ways to enjoy their heart-healthy benefits. Though I haven't yet tried these muffins (from the Kiwi Gardens B&B in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii), I will certainly do so the next time I have some extra avocados on hand. You can save some time by using thawed frozen mango chunks instead of fresh mango. -- posted by Lynne the Pirate Queen

Superfruit Smoothie

My absolute favorite smoothie - banana, kiwi, mango, peach, and clementine! When fresh fruit is in season, I like to play around with different combinations, but this is the one that I make the most. Not only does it taste absolutely amazing, but it is loaded with natural nutrition too; Vitamins B & C, potassium, dietary fiber, omega-3 F.A.s, antioxidants, calcium...much more wholesome (and yummier!) than a vitamin pill in my opinion. And because of the fiber and protein, it is filling enough to be a hearty snack or a meal substitute. Before you get too excited, a quick word of warning about the kiwi - if you eat too much at once it can make your mouth feel tingly and raw (yes... I've had this happen. I can't help myself!) I hope you like this smoothie as much as I do! :) -- posted by Oenophilly

Banana Almond Date Soy Smoothie

This vegan smoothie is amazingly rich, creamy, filling, and healthy. It has a nice texture to it from the almonds and a natural sweetness from the banana and dates. I like that there is no refined sugar added or any animal products, all good for us and the planet. I like using a frozen banana to make the drink cold, but room temperature works well too. If you want to freeze bananas, peel them before freezing. Peeling frozen bananas doesn't work! And place them separated in the freezer so they don't freeze together. -- posted by Chef #1363287
