Caramel Apple Pie

I got this recipe from Pillsbury Most Requested Recipes: easy, fabulous pies, tarts and more recipe magazine. Made it two years ago for Christmas. I made homemade caramel sauce from a Martha Stewart recipe, which made it a little time consuming, but well worth it. But I did not include the caramel recipe in this one. I love finding and making apple recipes, since apples are my husbands favorite fruit. It's rich and we served it with french vanilla ice cream. It was so juicy that my crust on the bottom didn't stay, so there was no bottom to the pie!!! It was my first pie I ever made!! So for you pie makers, hopefully it will do better for you! I am guessing I should have let the apples dry some? -- posted by ARicePatty

Apple Crumble

Crumble is so cheap and easy to make - and it's the perfect pudding now the weather's turning colder. The big, big rule is never add the sugar to the crumble until the butter is rubbed into the flour. The reason is that the sugar and butter will cream - that means mix together, a bit like a sponge mixture, and the crumble will be heavy and more like pastry. So gently mix the sugar through with a spoon at the end - then just pour over the cooked apple. Do not pack it down: leave as light and fluffy as possible. -- posted by English_Rose

Easy Apple Crisp

I got a cookbook at a sale called The New Jefferson Cookbook and I am going through it to save the recipes that sound good. Next to this recipe, the previous owner wrote "great recipe" so I thought I would post it. The recipe was submitted by Eleanor Vogler. *The recipe didn't say how many apples to use- it simply said to fill a 10" pie plate with sliced apples. This would be great with vanilla ice cream. -- posted by Oolala

Upstairs Apple Pie

I have been slowly modifying this recipe since it was passed on to me by my grandmother. It is baked inside a paper bag at 425°, so an accurate oven temperature is essential (the combustion temperature of paper is Fahrenheit-451, hence the book title). The result is that during the baking process, your downstairs may smell of burning paper, but upstairs will smell like warm apple pie. -- posted by Lafcadio

Courage Pie

I found this on Salon's website at http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2008/12/20/pie_love/index1.html in an article written by Vincent Rossmeier about the joys of pie. He quotes a cookbook by Francine Segan called Shakespear'e kitchen. The original recipe from the 15th century contained sparrow brains -- an ingredient mercifully missing.
Cranberry Apple Tart

It's easy to love apple pie. Turning out the perfect crust? Not so easy. Which is why this apple and dried cranberry tart does away with the hard part without sacrificing the joy of baking. This recipe uses purchased pizza dough to create a thin crust that is topped with tart apple slices. For a nice finish, dust the tart with powdered sugar, or a blend of powdered sugar and cinnamon. If you'd prefer a more traditional crust, a prepared pie crust also could be used. But pizza crust lends a nice chew that works well with the tender apple slices. Be sure to let the dough come to room temperature before rolling it. The dried cranberries can be soaked in water or juice for 15 minutes before using. This isn't necessary, but it makes them plump and juicy. Be sure to drain them well before placing them on the tarts. -- posted by Jess4Freedom

Apple-Wine Tart

If I want something baked that isn't gluten-free, I hire my DMIL who makes the most adorable cakes and tarts. This tart's story is quite funny: My DFIL loved collecting wines, although he had no idea about which wine is storable and which not. He just loved making holidays at the Mosel and buy interesting looking Mosel-wines, generally white wines. Unluckily he mostly loved collecting the bottles, but not drinking the wine, so he left a whole cellar of wine bottles when he passed away. For about one year DMIL talked about somehow getting rid of those wines, making German "Weincreme" or giving them away as a present, because none of us liked that stuff. DH then pointed out that we couldn't give it away as a present as we didn't know whether the wine actually was still drinkable (if it ever had been). Finally DMIL decided to make this apple wine tart for a summer bbq we had. The afternoon she came over with the tart she was all red in the face, and uncovering the plate she giggled and said that evidently she had just catched the only bottle of *red* wine, and when she noticed her mistake it was too late. So instead of an all "white" tart we had this funny white and red one - which was a big hit! Every single female at the party asked for the recipe, and all agreed that it looks much more interesting with red wine than with white.
Prep time is a guess because I didn't make the tart myself; it doesn't include resting time overnight -- posted by Mia in Germany

Apple Blush Pie

This is from a cookbook my Grandma gave me when I was 11 .
I have no idea what the name of the book is since it lost its cover years ago.
For years I have wanted to make this but always forget to buy the cinnamon hearts at Valentines but this year I bought FOUR lage bags to put away and finally made this.
We loved it .
I crushed some of the hearts and left some whole . Next time they will all be left whole .
I think any hard cinnamon candies would work.
I can't remember how many cups the five apple came to but I usually add more anyway I like a nice plump pie ( added extra ingredients accordingly)

The orignal recipe had no timings but I think I cooked it for about 45 minutes.
My oven is really fickle right now so one day it might burn and the next day take forever LOL -- posted by wicked cook 46

Easy Peasy Apple Puff Pie

As a general rule my family prefers a traditional apple pie made with a sweet shortcrust pastry. However, from time to time I like to make a pie using puff pastry for an alltogether lighter dessert. I always make my pastry from scratch, even phyllo, but for me, puff pastry never seems economical to make at home. Here I have used a pack of refridgerated puff pastry dough, but if you make your own puff pastry at home, feel free to use it. -- posted by Um Safia

Apple Pie

I loooove apple pie, and this is the recipe that I pretty much grew up on as a kid...i remember standing in the kitchen helping mum and eating all the left-over bits of pastry! There is a bit of time and effort involved, mainly in the rolling and baking of the pastry, but that's part of the fun, plus it tastes so much sweeter when you know that your hardwork has created this yummy pie! It can be served hot or cold, and tastes really good with vanilla icecream! -- posted by Hayley_11

Sheila's Apple Pie

I could make this pie in my sleep, I have done it so many times! It started out when my son was small and we used to go apple picking. I had to use up all those apples, so I made pies and gave them away. Suddenly, everyone else decided to go apple picking, too, and would bring me their apples to turn into pies! It's just a basic, traditional recipe but it is delicious and homey. Note: I will tell you that my preference is for Cortland apples, and it ends up being about 2-1/2 lbs. usually. -- posted by JackieOhNo!

My Very Favorite Apple Crumb Pie

This is my all-time favorite recipe for apple pie. The crumb topping is so delicious and the apple filling flavor is just right. You will need a deep dish pie pan for this. The crumb topping will seem like a lot when you're putting it on but it turns out wonderful when baked. I bake my pie on a cookie sheet, lined with aluminum foil. You can use your favorite pie crust for this or try "Recipe#51537", one of my favorites for one-crust pies. -- posted by Lainey6605

Sarasota's Simple Pear and Apple Tart

I admit ... I'm not much of a baker. I do bake, but I prefer to cook. I can make a great pie crust, and can make a great cake. The question is do I like to. NO. This is my version of baking. I take advantage of a premade pie crust, but please, if you like making your own, go for it. Fresh fall flavors and NO pie pan. This is a rustic tart with tons of flavors. This was actually my ex mother-in-laws recipe, but she made it as a pie and used nuts as a topping. After deciding to make it a tart, I though that my topping I came up with really added some flavor. But either way you make it as a pie or as a tart -- it is great. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Caramel Apple Pie Filling (Oamc)

This is a recipe that my husband came up with when we had a lot of apples after apple picking several years ago. It has become a family favorite and one that we look forward to making after what has become a fun annual family outing at a beautiful orchard. We like using a combination of at least two or three varieties of apples for flavor and texture. Our favorite combination is Macintosh, Jonagold, and Granny Smith. I double or triple this recipe to can or freeze to use later in pies, over ice cream, on my oatmeal, or straight up, but it is so good it doesn't last long. -- posted by UrbanDesiMommy

Bill Yosse's White House Apple Pie

Note it makes use of lard, the secret of all great pastry. Just in time for prime pie making!
