Mennonite Veal With Dumplings

One of my favourites, based on a recipe I found in Food that Really Schmecks (written by Edna Staebler). This is supposed to be plain old-fashioned comfort food, in case you're wondering about the lack of seasonings. It's wonderful when you just want something homey. Feel free to experiment with veggies; I've used green beans once, plus I add celery sometimes. This is a real treat particularly for dumpling lovers. -- posted by Lennie

Clear Toy Candy [pa Dutch Traditional]

"Several people have asked how to make traditional clear toy candy. It is so simple that anyone can do it, but remember it is dangerous so no small children please.
You will need: a pan, a candy thermometer, clear corn syrup, sugar, and water. No flavoring please - that is why it has a unique flavor. You may also add a small amount of red food coloring and if you are not very traditional you may use green food coloring which came into use in the 1920's. If you add no coloring it will turn out a beautiful amber."

This is from the original poster when I did a hunt for it because making the candy was a big question for some friends. -- posted by DR. House

Ruhrei.... Mennonite Scrambled Eggs

This is a different and delicious way to make Scrambled Eggs, my MIL used to make them this way and we loved them!
Very creamy. She said originally they used to make eggs this way to stretch the eggs further when feeding a large family, now we just make them because we like them!
From the Mennonite Cookbook.
*Caution: These eggs are of a very creamy and different texture and need to be fully cooked and set through. -- posted by ~Leslie~

Wayne's Mennonite Noodle Soup

This is the soup that my husband grew up on. He comes from a Mennonite Family in Manitoba, and they just call it simply "Noodle Soup" but I would call it chicken noodle soup. Also cooked by the Pennsylvania Dutch ;)

Amish Dry Lime Gelatin Salad / Dessert (Jello)

Found on www.AmishDining.com. A recipe seldom gets any easier than this one. Kids could make this with just a bit of supervision. My mother used to make something like this that had these same ingredients. This is much like her's, and since she was not a dessert maker, I am sure she would have opted for a simple recipe. Other flavors of gelatin work too, like Cherry and Strawberry which are perfect for Valentine's Day. NOTE: Times do not include the 2-3 hours for chilling time. Servings are approximate. -- posted by Kat's Mom

Amish Noodles

I found this recipe on another website (don't remember which one). They are really easy and very good. Much better than a buttered noodle, although there is a lot of sodium. I use low sodium chicken broth. -- posted by JiliBean
