Low Calorie Edible Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

If you love cookie dough, like to eat it raw, and are looking to cut out a few calories while still enjoying your favorite treat this recipe is for you! After searching high and low for this recipe I ended up making it myself. For only half the calories of regular recipes this is a tasty while still diet-friendly treat. Yum!

I like to divide the whole recipe into portions, like 8 portions for 340 calories each. Or make only 1/4 batch and divide it in two which keeps me from eating the whole batch! -- posted by Chef #236862

Found in "Better Homes & Gardens: Favorite Bars & Cookies" that I found at a yardsale. This recipe jumped out at me immediately. I think it is one of the most impressive cookie recipes I've ever made. I've shortened the steps, as I don't think the level of presentation they ask for is needed.
Andes Mint Cookies

These cookies are light and flaky, and delicious still warm from the oven. They were a huge hit during the holidays, and one batch made enough to bring to multiple parties. They freeze well, and can be made soft again with a few minutes in a warm oven. -- posted by Kim_150

Thick and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Published January 1, 1996 from Cooksillustrated.com: These truly chewy chocolate chip cookies are delicious served warm from the oven or cooled. To ensure a chewy texture, leave the cookies on the cookie sheet to cool. You can substitute white, milk chocolate, or peanut butter chips for the semi- or bittersweet chips called for in the recipe. In addition to chips, you can flavor the dough with one cup of nuts, raisins, or shredded coconut. -- posted by 8elbows

Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies

A great holiday treat! This is a delicious low-fat cookie recipe from the great cookbook, "One Smart Cookie: All Your Favourite Cookies, Squares, Brownies and Biscotti... with less fat !", by Julie Van Rosendaal. Dough must chill for an hour before rolling out.
An alternative (make-ahead) way to make this recipe is as an icebox cookie.
Shape the dough into a 12” long log, wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months. Slice log into 1/4” slices and bake as directed. -- posted by blucoat

Received this recipe from an online game I play on Pogo!
Chocolate Walnut Rugelach

These are delicious, traditional Jewish crescent shaped pastries or cookies. They are almost like denser, mini chocolate croissants. This recipe really simplifies what can sometimes be a complicated treat to prepare. The recipe is from "The Clueless Baker: Baking from Scratch", by Evelyn Raab. It's a great cookbook for beginning bakers. (For a faster method of rolling the cookies: roll the dough out into a slightly more rectangular shape. Sprinkle with filling, then roll the whole thing up in one piece, starting at one of the long sides. Cut into 1-inch (2 cm) sections and place, seam side down, on an ungreased cookie sheet to bake.) -- posted by blucoat

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

These are crisp on the surface with a soft and gooey centre. These are great for the holiday season as the white powdered sugar contrasts dramatically with the deep brown chocolate crevices and they look as though they are covered in snow. The recipe is from "Bakewise: The Hows and Whys of Successful Baking" by Shirley Corriher. These are Shirley's favourite cookies! She is a food scientist (as well as a cook) thus her recipes are very reliable. The dough needs to be refrigerated for a few hours or overnight. Makes 3 to 5 dozen, depending on size. -- posted by blucoat

From the cookbook, "The Spirit of Christmas", published by Leisure Arts. You can buy the white, medium, or dark chocolate disks at your local grocery store, either in the bulk section, bakery area, or baking aisle. If you prefer, you can melt together 6 ounces of chips or baking chocolate (except unsweetened) and 1 tablespoon of shortening in place of the candy coating. -- posted by blucoat

I've had this recipe longer than the friend that I got it from!!! This is a MUST every time there is a holiday or I'm asked to bring cookies for an event. My family devours them. They are very easy to make and it's a different recipe than any of the others I've seen with the same name. I sometimes have to add a little more cream to the dough if it appear too dry. We've made them with the frosting and without, dusting them with powdered sugar. Both ways are delicious! -- posted by JeanieK

Foothills House Sweet Dreams Cookies

Another recipe from Bon Appetit magazine (February 1986). This came from Foothills House, in Calistoga, California. I've never stayed there but from the online reviews, it's a wonderful little country inn with fabulous service and as of 2008 they were still giving these cookies to their guests every night. If I'm ever in that part of California for the night, I'm going to stay there! These are sweetly spiced cinnamon and ginger flavoured chocolate chip cookies rolled in powdered sugar before baking. I'm very glad the owner of the inn shared these with Bon Appetit. -- posted by Marysdottir

Ring of Fire Chocolate-Chipotle-Chocolate Chip Cookies

This amazing recipe comes from the foodie blog "Dirty Sugar Cookies" by a very funny writer named Ayun Halliday. Her recipes are always yummy and the text that accompanies them often makes me laugh out loud. I'm posting this here because I'm terrified she might close/end/cancel her blog and then I will have lost this recipe. The cookies are softish, lumpy, crisp around the edges, very dark and chocolaty with a really nice bite from the chipotle powder. They are from the Dec 21/06 posting which you can read here http://dirtysugarcookies.blogspot.com/2006/12/ring-of-fire-dirty-chocolate-chipotle.html. The recipe as she writes it is waaaaay funnier than the way I've typed it here.
Chocolate Pecan Cookies (Better Than Publix Bakery)

This recipe makes twelve 3 ½ inch cookies with a dark chocolate color speckled with pecan pieces. The cookies are more flat than puffy, and have a moist interior, and an exterior with just a slight crunch. After many attempts and tweaks, this does it for me. I mention some brand names in the ingredients list because some brands can make a big difference in the outcome (depending on your taste buds). Note, I have no interest or affiliation with any brand. -- posted by TyroCook

Urban Legend Chocolate Chip Cookies

This recipe circulated in an "urban legend" email about 5 years ago. As the legend went, a customer in a fancy restaurant asked for a cookie recipe and was charged $250 on their bill for it at the end of the meal. The legend turned out to be false, but these remain the BEST chocolate chip cookies I have ever tasted, and certainly the best to ever come out of my kitchen!

NOTE: Do NOT leave out the oats. Even if you don't necessarily like oats in your cookies, they will not bake right without them. Also make sure that the cookies are SMALL - roll them up into balls that are a bit smaller than a golf ball. They don't bake right if you make them too big. Recipe can be halved. -- posted by keyboardcat

Chewy Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies

I originally found this recipe on a baking blog, Cookie Baker Lynn. I made one major change to the recipe; melting the chocolate and incorporating it into the batter instead of using them as chunks in the cookie. I searched here and found two recipes for these cookies each giving credit to Martha Stewart's website. Both used chunks of chocolate rather than incorporating in the batter. I think this is a significant enough change to warrant another recipe and to claim my own spin ;) These cookies are thin chewy chocolatey goodness in every bite. Prep time includes chill time. -- posted by invictus

Chocolaty cookies with mini marshmallows. Yummy. These cookies actually seem to "age" well, and taste even better after a couple days... if they stick around long enough!
Stef's Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love chocolate chip cookies, and have been playing around for years to find what I consider to be the 'perfect recipe.' This is a combination of recipes from a few different sources, I don't consider it original, more stealing the tips I like from different places (alton brown, the ny times, and paula deen, among others). I particularly like it because the butter is melted - it saves your arm the usual pain of mixing softened butter. These make cookies I like - slightly salty, think, chewy, and butterscotch-y.

If anyone finds changes that work well, please let me know, this recipe is always a work in progress to me.

Best Rum Balls (America's Test Kitchen)

This recipe is from Christoper Kimball of Cook's Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen. It makes about five dozen rum balls that are intense, fudgy, chewy, complex, and balanced. Recipe can be halved or doubled. Plan ahead, since these are best when left to mellow for at least a few days in the refrigerator. They keep very well and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a couple of weeks or frozen for up to a few months. Cooking time is refrigeration time. Use vanilla for a non-alcoholic version (sometimes called moon balls). -- posted by blucoat

Secret Ingredient Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yes, another all-time favorite recipe for the all-time favorite cookie!
I stumbled upon this "Once Upon a Chef" recipe and knew I had to try it. I'm thinking the secret ingredients are the processed oats and coconut which give the cookie a chewy inside, but a crisp outside. They are delectable! My husband, who doesn't like coconut, really loved these.
Chocolate Covered Oreo Balls

Had these on Christmas Eve and thought Santa came early! Talk about simple - and sinful! These were extremely easy (and a lot of fun) to make.

We used reduced fat ( ::gasp:: ) Oreos, and they were just as good. You could use low fat cream cheese as well. We also decided that covering the *entire* ball made them a bit too sweet (yes, I know - how can that be?!?). Next time, we will just dunk the bottoms in the chocolate.

DH and I can't wait to try out different combinations: Peanut butter Oreos, mint Oreos, flavored chips, adding food coloring to white chocolate (for the holidays, game day, school colors, etc) - the creative possibilities are endless! -- posted by Dea Doo

This recipe is from the BHG website. I tried it for Christmas and it was a hit on my cookie tray. I also couldn't keep my hands off them. Great cookie for peanut butter and chocolate lovers. -- posted by Roxanne J.R.
