Warsaw Salad

This recipe is adapted from one published in the Los Angeles Times about 20 years ago; they were featuring Polish food in that issue. This salad is perfect with cold Polish sausage or ham and some East European type bread. It makes a good lunch or a light supper. Note: most of the prep time is standing time, this is an easy recipe. -- posted by lynnski / LA

Callaloo (Real Trini Style)...caribbean

This is the real callaloo the way it's made in Trinidad. This callaloo is not considered a soup but rather a side dish used with the Sunday lunch. If you can get the real ingredients wherever you are you are going to really ENJOY this dish.
Serve on rice, boiled provisions, macaroni pie, potato salad....Caribbean foods are best for this dish.
All ingredients can be prepped before and stored in the refrigerator at least two days before. -- posted by Sunday Chef #1116383

5 Bean Salad

This is a very easy, high fiber salad with a healthy homemade dressing. I often serve this on a bed of lettuce and the dressing is enough for the greens. I originally found this recipe in Jane Kirby's Glamour's Gourmet on The Run (1987), and have since simplified it and reduced the number of ingredients (I'm a cheap college student)--but I recommend checking out the original, which includes cooking with a bay leaf and mustard seeds. -- posted by A.
Great Green Beans and Perfect Potatoes Recipe ( Ww 3 Pts )

This recipe is for green beans and potatoes that is so yummy. Now it could be made better with more butter, bacon grease, etc but to keep it at 3 pts for Weight Watchers it needs to be as written. It is super good. My mother in law is very picky and she liked it a lot. My kids who won't eat garlic usually had seconds. The secret ingredient is the sugar as small as it is so don't leave it out. Tastes good with yukon gold small potatoes also. This recipe came from an internet site a while back and the original creator was unknown then. It has been a favorite. Enjoy!
Marked vegetarian because it tastes amazing even when you take out the Prosciutto. I LOVE THIS DISH. I have a series of recipes I got out of what I thought would be a useless magazine full of ho-hum recipes that I was given for free at the Check out stand at my local grocery store. The magazine is called "Dan's real food Spring 2008" Turns out, they are some of the best recipes I have ever come upon. This is one of those recipes. By the way, I made this one time on a camping trip inside a dutch oven and it just came out WONDERFULLY. Seriously, one of my favorite recipes ever. -- posted by alice Dave

Vegan Green Bean Casserole

I found this recipe on VegWeb: So far I have found no complaints!
"This is meant to be a vegan version of the traditional green bean casserole served at holidays, etc., for those of you who loved it and were sad to not have it at the holidays once you went vegan. Many of my non-veggie friends like this better than traditional green bean casserole because it has more veggies and more herbs and spices." - from the website

Quick Kidney Bean Soup With Savoy Cabbage

Entered for safe-keeping for ZWT. By Ana Patuleia Ortins from "Portuguese Homestyle Cooking". Per Ms. Ortins, "While you can use canned beans in a pinch, keep a watch on the sodium level. If time permits, use the less expensive and healthier method of presoaking dried legumes overnight, rinsing them then cooking them in unsalted water or broth and set aside until needed. You can do this a day or two ahead.. To have presoaked beans cook in your soup, add salt only towards the end when the beans are tender. Salting too early will result in tough beans." -- posted by KateL

A spicy, crisp, fresh vegetable salad. This salad should be made several hours before it is served....to marinate the vegetables and blend the flavors.
Quick Chile Dilly Beans

"Late in summer, glorious canned goods like dilly beans are up for judging at county fairs and are sold at every farmers’ market. Some traditionalists would say that dilly beans are best after a month or so of marinating, but you can get that long-marinated taste in just one day with this quick technique. Any type of green bean can be turned into dilly beans, but super-thin, French-style beans stay tender and are less likely to be stringy or tough." States these will keep for up to 1 month in the fridge.
Hearty Meatless Tater Tot Casserole

For us vegetarians who want the heartiness of a tater tot casserole without the hamburger or ground beef. I found a terrific tater tot casserole recipe on here-- which I altered a bit, then found some more tips on how to make this awesome, tasty, and cheap meal and also adjusted it to the pan size constraint. I couldn't use a real casserole dish because I live in the ghetto and don't have a real oven; I rely on a convection oven. So please note, this recipe's measures are based on using a deep (about 5") 2-quart loaf pan! It's so hearty and filling that I get at least 3-4 meals out of it for just me. But if you want to use a real 13 x 9 casserole dish because you're doing OAMC/OAWC or cooking for your family? Never fear, just double the amounts shown! -- posted by the80srule

Creamy Lemony Green Beans

I had no idea what lemon curd was for a while, then I found bottles of it on the clearance pile at Stop & Shop. It is an English delicacy that is used in both savory and sweet dishes, and enhances the flavors of meats and veggies as well as making for a sweet toast and pastry spread. Hence, I used my favorite vegetable to experiment with lemon curd.
