Watermelon Juice

Fleur de Sel is used in this easy recipe by William Yosses Recipe calls for a SMALL melon. Fleur de Sel is a lovely salt, but only the extravagant use it for cooking. Most people use it as a condiment and sprinkle a pinch here and there in places where the salt will shine and its distinctive flavor and texture will be appreciated. -- posted by Charlotte J

Watermelon Sensation Libation

What a delicious way to use up some of that summer supply of watermelon! This recipe uses a simple syrup ( recipe follows). Cook time reflects time to chill watermelon in freezer. I found this on the Food Network. The name has been changed to protect the innocent ;) as well as some of the ingredients to suit my personal preferences. This drink is also very good with light Rum or Coconut Rum to replace the vodka! I haven't tested it with Lemon Flavored Vodka, yet, but I imagine that would also be good. -- posted by Bev

Vodka Watermelon

We've been having a lot of boozy sweet-stuff this month at work (tequila choccies, boozy cakes, etc.) and my boss mentioned that his missus used to make vodka watermelon. I've not yet tried this but apparently it's great fun and fab for a party! Please note that servings are approximate and you can make this as boozy (or not) as you wish, but it's probably prudent to allow for a small bottle of vodka. You may need to turn the watermelon occasionally as my boss did comment that sometimes when they have it the vodka all falls to the bottom and some slices don't taste very alcoholic at all. I've heard you can inject the vodka into the melon as well, but if you're anything like me then you don't have a whole lot of needles lying about your house! -- posted by Wendy-Bob

Famous Dave's Watermelon Punch

From the Famous Dave's cookbook. This summertime punch is served right in the watermelon. You could add vodka to make it adult if you wish.
My friend Randy came up with this drink, and I have no idea why he calls it that. I’ll have to ask him… :) It’s as delicious as it is fun to make and drink! This works really well for having along at a campout, where everybody will be sitting around eating, talking, and drinking in a circle.
Watermelon Agua Fresca- Sandia

This agua fresca can be used as a template for any soft fruit: cantaloupe, mango, papaya, pineapple, strawberry, guava... the list goes on and on. Start by mashing the fruit and add water to make 1 gallon. Don't be tempted to throw this in the blender, as the best aguas always have bits of fruit floating throughout. You should make it a little stronger than you think since chilling dulls the flavor and ice will dilute it. Extra agua can be frozen into paletas. Please adjust the sugar to you liking.
Minty Fresh French Aperitif and Appetiser Charentais Melon Bowls

An appetiser and aperitif all in one sunny melon bowl - I use the local Pineau des Charentes to fill up these charentais melon starters, but white port, fino sherry or any fortified wine would be just as good. Charentais melons are grown mainly in SW France and Spain and have a smooth pale green to creamy yellow skin. The very juicy flesh is deep orange in colour and it is one of the best dessert melons; they are also great in fruit salads, as well as being used as a refreshing starter course - as in this recipe. Preparation time includes the 4 hours to chill prior to serving them. If you cannot get fresh mint sprigs - use any attractive, edible leaves or herbs - maybe even a flower. -- posted by French Tart

Very refreshing drink, very easy to make. It works just as well with Cantaloupe or Honey Dew melons. I've made this recipe with many different types of melon with great results. The grocery store I use has a yearly melon sale in the summer. You can try and buy several types of melons that you normally couldn't get in this area of Wisconsin.
