No-Salt White Bread

Very simple white bread recipe for breadmaker (if you're clever you can adapt for oven!) Whole wheat flour could be substituted. This is originally a medieval Tuscan recipe, created by peasants who couldn't afford the high taxes on salt. Perfect for those of us on low-sodium diets! -- posted by JennyMidget

Ww Chicken Tortilla Soup Without the Tortillas

This is my response to craving mexican food but not being able to have the calories. This soup is very filling and low points- 6 1/2 for the whole recipe. You can control the heat of this recipe by the type of salsa you add- I usually use mild. Whatever heat you choose, it should be fresh salsa so the cilantro and other flavours are strong enough. If you really like it hot, add some chillies! I like to chop the ingredients fairly small for this recipe so you get an even flavour balance in every bite. -- posted by Shuzbud

Spiced Pumpkin Butter

Pumpkin butter is one of fall's great all-purpose spreads. Spice up breakfast by using it on pancakes and muffins. For a quick appetizer, spread pumpkin butter on toasted bread with slices of your favorite cheese. Experiment with different flavors; add a dash of cayenne pepper or a drizzle of honey. Each serving is 2 tablespoons. I found this recipe in Better Homes and Garden magazine. I have not tried this recipe, but I'm posting it for safe keeping. -- posted by internetnut

Chocolate Peanut Butter Soymilk Smoothie

I got this from yellatyourfat.com. Yell At Your Fat is a podcast by Wendy, she has lost 139 pounds, and is doing 139 podcast sharing about her weightloss journey. She's a crazy cat and fun to listen to. She likes to sing too. hehe

You can add banana to this, or strawberries, get creative.

For frozen soy milk, measure one cup, and freeze in an ice cube tray for blending ease.

If things get stuck while blending, stop the blender and move around the frozen bits with a spoon. If you still have trouble blending, add more soy milk.

Prep and cook (blend) time are estimates, and do not include freezing time for the soymilk. (; -- posted by MoxiePurple

Crockpot Yogurt

Make your own yogurt at home in your crockpot! Cheaper than storebought, and healthier than the chemical-laden stuff on the shelves. Lasts 7-10 days in the refrigerator. It will be somewhat thinner than the commercial stuff; see note at the end. You can also thicken it with skim milk powder, I'm told, but have never tried it. -- posted by DrGaellon

Easy Vegetarian Black Bean Tortilla Soup

Quick, hearty soup with a bit of a kick. Can be made Vegan by omitting sour cream. Tame the spice down by substituting diced tomatoes for the Ro-Tel.
This is a great snack, not very high in carbs but high in protein and very satisfying. The original recipe claims for whole moong beans, but I usually use split moong dal to shorten soaking time.

You can use any short grain rice you like.

Ginger Butternut Squash Soup

The combination of ginger and butternut squash is delicious and addictive. This recipe yields a creamy soup without the use of any cream. I love to whip this soup up with my immersion blender right in the pot. This soup also freezes well. You can serve it with a dollop of sour cream if you desire, although I serve it without a garnish. If you want to make this a completely dairy free soup, use dairy free margarine (Fleishman's unsalted, or Earth Balance.) Oh yeah, and you MUST use fresh ginger. -- posted by Lee Hock

Herbed Country Breakfast Potatoes

These are the country breakfast potatoes I cooked at a restaurant I once worked, which were served on weekends for brunch. They are easy to make, and may be prepared with or without tri-color bell peppers -- and of course they are delicious, with aromatic fresh herbs. I've tried making them with dried herbs, but there's just no beating the flavor of fresh rosemary and thyme (you can even sneak a little fresh sage in there too, if you've got it). Enjoy these hearty breakfast potatoes with your favorite eggs or omelet, or serve them the way I do (yes it may seem strange)... topped with my Recipe #363705 sauce!
Alabama Living Soup

This recipe comes out of a local electric company magazine. We love hearty soups on the cold, damp days. This recipe fits the bill. Just place everything in the crock pot, go to work, come home to a wonderful soup. This makes a large crockpot of soup. For thicker soups you can use less broth, for thinner soups, use more. The cups measurement for the broth is up to your preference. -- posted by Jellyqueen

Wedding Punch

I've made this punch for several weddings, parties and showers and it always goes over well! From the 1986 Southern Living Annual Recipes. I haven't made it with champagne, but I am sure it would be delicous that way! Take time to make the ice ring; it really makes the punch perfect! If you need to make a lot of this, you can make the punch up to the point where you chill the base and instead freeze it. I've made enough for 100 people this way with good results. Also, the original recipe calls for a 28-ounce bottle of tonic water. I just always use the full 1 liter bottle.
Preparation time includes a swag on how long it takes to make the ice ring. Cooking time is just the time to combine the base, ice ring and carbonated beverage. -- posted by DeniseBC
