Rosmairi Oven Scones

This recipe is from the 'Highland Fling' cookbook. My grandmother ordered 4 cookbooks from Scotland for herself, my mother & my aunts. It makes a delicious, fluffy scone & we've had tons of requests for the recipe over the years. I have given the exact steps as written, but added our modifications. This makes a sweet scone--perfect for double Devonshire cream & some jam. -- posted by KristinB

Double Maple Syrup Scones

I have always been a scone lover, and maple is my favorite flavor. There is a fine line with the texture I like: not to biscuit-like, not too cake-like, and a nut-like flavor, without chunks of nuts. This recipe is from is from "The King Arthur Baking Book" and has all that, plus some icing on the cake. Since my family has already requested this three times in four days, I decided to put this recipe where I can't lose it...Zaar! -- posted by Roxygirl in Colorado

English Hard Cake

The first time you make this, you might wonder where you went wrong because it's hard and on the dry side...Trust me, it's supposed to be that way...This is not one of those moist 'tea' cakes...
The 'trick' is that you have some strong hot tea with it...Don't make the mistake of having it with coffee, you lose the 'effect'...I prefer stong hot English Breakfast tea with no other flavor (no herbals, etc)
Only then will you appreciate the magic of this seemingly ordinary 'tea' cake! -- posted by Cookin'withGas

English Scones With Chocolate Chunks

These are a very moist and tender scone. More cake like than biscuit like. I stole it away from a co-worker of my husbands. He says you must use Bluebonnet margarine no subs and as I wanted the texture to taste the same I have tried no other. I plan on trying these with berries and perhaps almonds too. If you like your scones on the sweeter side I would add another 2-3 T sugar. -- posted by startnover

Sandra Lee - Mocha Chip Scones

I love the decadence of scones, love coffee, and love chocolate chips!
I'm not a huge fan of Sandra Lee on the Food Network, but these scones looked pretty darn good for Semi-Homemade ones made with Bisquick! :)
They tasted even better!!!
(However, I do think the 3/4 cup of white chocolate chips made this a little too sweet...so I replaced the white with an additional 3/4 cup semi-sweet ones. I also felt that the dough needed an additional teaspoon of vanilla extract. I found the coffee flavor to be far too weak using double strength coffee, so I substituted 4 1/2 tsp instant espresso powder dissolved in 1/4 cup hot tap water. )
Enjoy with coffee or hot chocolate for a sinful breakfast! -- posted by GoodMorningBurger

Maple Cinnamon Scones

I created this recipe by combining and modifying a few other scone recipes. It turned out nicely -- a huge hit with friends and family! This is a more traditional scone recipe, somewhat (although not exactly) like the kind you would find in England.

Feel free to play around with the amounts of cinnamon and almond. The almond can easily be cut down to 1/2 teaspoon if you'd like more of the cinnamon and maple flavor to come out. The maple flavor will be very subtle either way, but always delicious!

I prefer them unglazed (and it's healthier anyway)! -- posted by jumpergirl311

Puyallup Fair Scones (Fisher Scones)

First, these scones are quick, easy, great and a perfect project for a beginning baker. Second...you need to know how to pronounce Puyallup...I wouldn't want anyone to embarrass themselves!!..."Pew-allup", not Pooyloop!!...Here in Western Washington the Puyallup Fair is a huge annual event. It is one of the largest in the US. The fair is all about food for me! And Fisher Scones are the biggest draw...they sell something like 80,000 a day or something like that!! I have many fond memories of Fisher Scones. I found this recipe on-line, the poster said that she came across the recipe in a 1930's Fisher Cookbook her grandmother had. The original recipe called for raisins, but they no longer make them that way. The ONLY way to eat these is warm with a big slab of butter and raspberry jam, just like they serve them at the fair!! Store them in an air tight container and they keep well. They taste nice cold, but way better heated up in the microwave, and don't forget the butter and jam!
FYI...Make sure you sift, then measure the flour per instructions.
NOTE: I took this recipe and made some changes to it and I think this new recipe is even better Mrs. G's Fair Scones Recipe #184105...try them both and see what you think! -- posted by Mrs Goodall

Bed & Breakfast Scones

Started making these years ago; when oldest daughter was in high school, she'd request these whenever a friend stayed over for the weekend. Serve with Recipe #230378, Recipe #230379, Recipe #208953 or your favorite jam with butter. TIME-SAVING TIP: Line up several zip-top, quart-size bags (I do 10 at a time [10 bags = 10 recipes]), then pour in the dry ingredients, then label and store in a cool, dark spot in the pantry. At meal-time, dump one bag into mixing bowl and proceed. This works for pancakes, cornbread and pizza, too!
Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese Scones - Strictly for Grown Ups!

Well, why share this delectable cheese with the children?! I discovered this recipe whilst at home in England - it was on a leaflet given out by the Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese company - I have made these twice now, and this is my slightly adapted recipe based on the original. A little bit of history about this superb English cheese.......Simon Jones, who started to make Lincolnshire Poacher, is the fourth generation to be running the farm, which has been in the family since 1917. It is situated on the edge of the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds about ten miles from the east coast. The lush pastures sit on chalky land, which enables him to have a successful dairy herd in an area where dairy farms are very scarce and cheesemaking is virtually unknown. This cheddar-like unpasteurized cheese is the Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Awards, and is buttery, smooth, and nutty in taste. The sharp flavour will linger on your palate. It is aged anywhere from 18-24 months. -- posted by French Tart

Aunt Dot's Scones

Treat yourself! These are strictly an adult treat, as they're not cookie-sweet.... but they ARE moist and flavorful. My Aunt Dot, (a fabulous cook), sent me this recipe from Missouri several years ago and I have made them many times since then. Sometimes I get up early in the morning and make up a batch for the neighbors, which they very much appreciate. I especially savor eating 2 or 3 of these scones for brunch along with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio. I HIGHLY recommend that, with this recipe, you lay out all the ingredients in advance -- it makes the process go much easier.

This is my son's recipe (Jon). He made it in his Foods and Nutrition class in High School.
So... as soon as he came home from school that day he said" Mom, do we have flour, cream, sugar, baking powder, salt and butter" I said uummm yeah, and he went to town in the kitchen making these. They were so good and when they were done YYuuummmmm...they looked quite easy to make. -- posted by Queen uh Cuisine

These are delicious blueberry scones from Martha Stewart -- no, not my creation. The dough can be very sticky, so I recommend rolling and cutting them on a sheet of parchment paper. They will be slightly purple if you use canned blueberries, since they burst a lot more, but they are delicious either way. -- posted by Caught By the Taste Buds

Very English Scones

Adapted from the Be-Ro home recipes book. As an english person I actually have no idea why scones are considered so British. But these are great with tea, a good breakfast food and look very pretty. You can use a variety of fruit fillings (my favourite is glace cherrys), to be honest I think any dried fruit will work as long as it's chopped to a good size (think around the size of a sultana). Also the recipe calls for 8oz self raising flour but when I made these this morning I used 4oz self raising, 4oz plain and 1 teaspoon baking powder and that worked wonderfully. The salt is optional, you can use margarine or butter and caster sugar is white granulated basically. Handle lightly for best results. It's a versatile recipe, enjoy. -- posted by SallyDe

Kellie's Basic, Go Ahead and Mess With It, Scone Recipe

This recipe started as a Lemon Glazed Scone recipe I found in a locally published recipe book, you know the kind sold as a money raiser with personal recipes from community members. Over the years I have adapted it many times. It has become the basic formula I use to make scones for tea with friends, family gatherings or on those mornings when I wake up and find we are out of bread and cereal. I add whatever I have in the cupboard or fridge. It has never let me down.

I encourage you to substitute and add stuff. The basic formula is mix together the dry stuff, cut in the shortening, stir in any lumpy additions then mix in the wet stuff. Have fun with it! -- posted by redplaid huf

Gourmet Scones - Add Any Fruit!

This is a basic gourmet scone recipe. In this recipe, I am using strawberries, but you can use a variety of fruit(s) (blueberry, strawberry-rhubarb, currant, raspberry, peach, pumpkin, etc).

Also, I tend to use splenda instead of sugar, since I'm splurging in the calorie department with the whipping cream!!!

Buckingham Palace Scones

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARBARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"What better for this Buckingham Palace than a scone recipe from the lovely Kew Royal Botanical Gardens … Maids in Waiting…

Reportedly from the restaurant across from the Kew
The Maids in Waiting (I think that is the name) in KEW right across the street from the Royal Botanical Gardens ..they also make these wonderful little cakes called Maids in Waiting!!
otherwise, the Orangerie in Kensington."

The above was from my friend Katharine who came over to the house with more friends, to make me a post party brunch. What a kind and thoughtful present! We all had a wonderful time. I relaxed with one of my friends in the parlor, while the others cooked. This is why they called the scones, "Buckingham Palace Scones". -- posted by Sweetiebarbara
