Pumpkin Tarts

you can use canned pumpkin if you like the traditional thick texture and sweetness of store-bought pumpkin pie. I like using fresh cooked pumpkin as it's not overly sweet and much lighter and fluffier that way, almost like a mousse. you can freeze cooked pumpkin for many months so you can still make this outside of autumn, just be sure to drain it well when you thaw it. can also be made into a single-crust pie, just increase the cooking time to about an hour. new way to play with this: make just the filling in custard cups or muffin tins and serve with ice cream and butterscotch! -- posted by spiritussancto

Cute Non-Pumpkin Jack O' Lantern Cookies

These are really cute I made them for a Halloween party with the nutter butter ghosts. The original recipe calls for Oreo's or ChipsAhoy which I didn't have in the house so I improvised. Pretty well anything round that tastes good covered in almond bark would be tasty:) This came from a pdf from Kraft I believe. -- posted by MinnMomof2

Yorkshire Parkin - Sticky Oatmeal Gingerbread for Bonfire Night

A wonderful tradition from Northern England, in particular from the county of Yorkshire; this wonderful gingerbread is traditionally eaten on the 5th November which is Bonfire Night, also called Guy Fawkes night or Fireworks Night. There are many ways to make ginger parkin; this is my recipe for this deliciously, sticky and dark gingerbread with oats. This recipe is an egg free parkin, and I was always told that Parkin should NEVER contain eggs in it, whether that is true or not, I'm not sure! Try to plan ahead when you make this recipe, it is MUCH better when kept for 2 to 3 days before eating, as it become stickier and more intense in flavour. This keeps for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container and freezes well, if there is any left! I use jumbo porridge oats in my parkin, for a nice chewy texture - but any porridge oats or oatmeal will be suitable. Please note, if you make this with the suggested alternatives of corn syrup and molasses, it will not be quite the same flavour, but it should still be sticky! -- posted by French Tart

Blood and Mud Pud

A twist on the classic fondue for Halloween. This version is for kids but it also works well for more sophisticated tastes with the addition of vodka or kirsch to the raspberry sauce and brandy or rum to the chocolate sauce.

The real beauty of this recipe is that it doesn't take a lot of cooking and because you can vary the dipping ingredients you can be sure to cater for most tastes! for example you can use grapes, walnuts, pecans, marshmallows, mango chunks, pineapple chunks etc. etc.

Oh! Warning: this can get very messy so have plenty of napkins, bibs and paper towels to hand! -- posted by RamblingRozie

The Perfect Low-Sugar Kool-Aid Salt Water Taffy

I've worked at it and worked at it and 5 batches later, I think I've got it. It's the perfect salt water taffy flavored with kool-aid. It takes alot of work to get it to the right consistency so don't give up! And if it seems to hard when it cools down, as long as it's still pliable, it will work. If it cracks into pieces, you cooked it too long. Even 5 degrees can ruin the batch so keep an eye on it. Try again, or tell people you were going for painted glass candy all along.
Also, most taffy recipes will tell you that you don't need to keep stirring after the mixture starts boiling. I ruined 3 batches before I found out it's safer just to keep stirring. Even a little bit of burnt taffy in the mix ruins the batch, and if you don't stir, it will burn to the bottom of the pan.
**SIDE NOTE**
I sited strawberry kool-aid in my recipe, but you can use any kind as long as it's unsweetened. -- posted by InBlackAndLace

Pumpkin Walnut Cookies With Caramel Cream Cheese Frosting

I picked up the latest issue of Taste of Home, Best-Loved Cookies and Bars. Because of the season, I wanted to make pumpkin cookies. When I couldn't decide between 2 recipes, I smooshed them together and made it my own, especially the frosting. A touch of maple syrup adds a hint of the holidays and the cream cheese adds a rich, creamy texture to the frosting and keeps it not too sweet.
These are easy to make and sooo delicious. Don't be afraid of the thick mixture, especially after adding the walnuts. This produces a soft, moist, chewy, cake-like cookie.
If you're not a stickler for smooth edges or are in a rush, refrigeration isn't necessary. It just stays more formed and doesn't create little points after being scooped (especially from a cookie scooper). These cookies don't spread out much, so you can place them closer together on the cookie sheet to bake more at a time.
Cooking time is bake time + making the frosting. -- posted by caffeine junkie

Sensational Strawberry Summer Trifle

This is great for you guys that have a summer Christmas here in the Southern hemisphere, or anyone else anywhere on the globe! We use to make the traditional trifle with jelly each year, but after I made this one year, we stuck with it!
Vampire Cookies

These are fun cookies for Halloween or a vampire genre party. The cookies have a light vanilla and butter flavor to them, and are the perfect color to really set off the red of the filling. The have a slightly crisp edge and a soft, chewy center. When you take a bite and expose the jam, they really do look like they’re bleeding! They are baked at a slightly cooler temperature than some cookies, so they don’t really brown during baking. Best if served the same day. I found this recipe on one of my favorite blogs, Baking Bites. -- posted by tammy dalton

Pumpkin Fluff Dip

This is a Midwestern classic apparently-- a school chum from Iowa told me about this recipe that's popular around fall and early winter, from having leftover cans of pumpkin from stocking up on sale but not wanting to make any more pumpkin pies-- they're popular for high teas, luncheon spreads, Superbowl parties, Thanksgiving and Christmas, or sitting on your can watching The Golden Girls. :D Since I didn't want to use actual marshmallow Fluff...this is my fluffy adaptation of this recipe that came out HEAVENLY. I could eat a drum of this stuff and not get bored of it! One 15 or 16 oz can of pumpkin works, or you can measure out 2 cups from a 28-oz can. You can also use 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice for the spicing but it tends to be overpowering, the subtler cinnamon and nutmeg is better. -- posted by the80srule

Pumpkin Nuggets With Vanilla Sauce

I think few adore sugar and pumpkin as much as I do. :D I guess you could say this is something of a copycat recipe-- I went to this Japanese "snack cafe" several years ago and had these delicious pumpkin nuggets that came with chocolate and vanilla dipping sauces. Mine came out much thicker than I remember those ones, (and I haven't quite mastered that Japanese confectionery technique for a soft outside and creamy inside) but they're still really good. The chocolate sauce seemed like a thick chocolate syrup like U-Bet, but I think my vanilla sauce is even better (and will probably post as a separate recipe)
You can use all-purpose flour for the nugget mixture, but I find that the rice flour is really the best or a mix of the two works too. -- posted by the80srule

Creamy Pumpkin Rice Pudding

Even though the phrase "leftover pumpkin" doesn't exist in my household, most people often wonder what to do with the leftover pumpkin after making a pumpkin pie. I like to make this tasty, simple, and quick dessert when I have a huge can of pumpkin I haven't completely gone through. Whole milk and cinnamon rice milk really work best for this recipe, but some tasty variations that really add to this pudding's richness are vanilla rice or soy milk, and Silk Pumpkin Pie flavored soy milk (which is only seasonal, I wish it was available year-round! And is it just me or does Silk Pumpkin Pie Soymilk taste just like Silk Nog that's available around Christmas, only they package it differently? So if you're making it around Christmas, use Silk Nog!) This awesome dessert is great for parties and potlucks,
it travels and freezes well, and was a big hit at my sister's Halloween party! Both the kids and adults loved it. (Note: Prep time does not include cooling time.) -- posted by the80srule

Pumpkin Cupcakes Cake

I needed something cute for our fall festival cakewalk at church this weekend and I found this recipe in the Better Homes and Gardens publication "Halloween tricks & treats". It was really easy; the hardest part was picking the orange and black M&M's out of the M&M's GHOUL'S Milk Chocolate Mix. If you live in a bigger city or can order online, you can probably order just orange and black ones to make this easier yet! -- posted by DeniseBC

My Very Favorite Apple Crumb Pie

This is my all-time favorite recipe for apple pie. The crumb topping is so delicious and the apple filling flavor is just right. You will need a deep dish pie pan for this. The crumb topping will seem like a lot when you're putting it on but it turns out wonderful when baked. I bake my pie on a cookie sheet, lined with aluminum foil. You can use your favorite pie crust for this or try "Recipe#51537", one of my favorites for one-crust pies. -- posted by Lainey6605

Pumpkin Brownies

The recipe is from Nestle (I'm not taking credit for it) and it was sooo good that I had to post it here for safe-keeping. It originally called for vegetable oil which I subbed with applesauce as I do with all my baked goods to cut calories and I tweaked a few other things. This is perfect to make when you have only a little bit of pumpkin left! A little goes a long way for this recipe. NOTE: I just modified this recipe because I made it again, and used 1 oz Baker's bittersweet choclate instead of cocoa powder. Came out so much better! Sweeter and creamier. I think adding 1 tbsp milk or cream will give it a nice lustre too. -- posted by the80srule

Cobweb Fudge

The walnuts can be omitted if preferred. Note this is formed in a ROUND pan. It makes one big web and is served by cutting into small wedges, rather than the usual squares. Use superfine sugar (not to be confused with confectioners' sugar), rather than granulated into order to avoid a grainy texture. If the melted chocolate begins to harden in the bag, microwave it in short bursts for a few seconds at a time. -- posted by Cecily Parsley

Pumpkin Bread Pudding W/ Caramel Sauce

This came from the Nov 2000 issue of Bon Appetit. It's super easy to make and absolutely delicious, everyone always asks for the recipe. It does not have an overwhelming pumpkin flavor. It's very moist and sweet. Don't sprinkle on the powdered sugar until the last minute, right before you serve, or it will melt into the bread. -- posted by Chef #296829

Red and Black Candy Apples

This is a fabulous Halloween creation that I fell in love with and had to keep safe (as in not losing the recipe!). It's from mattbites.com (http://mattbites.com/2009/10/13/adams-scary-apples/) and I unashamedly stole it word for word. You'll find some amazing photo's of these apples there too. All credit goes to Matt and Adam, and they deserve it in truckloads!

"*A Note About The Black Apples:* Lighter colored apples (Granny Smith, Golden Delicious) work well in making the red appear bright and glassy; darker apples like red delicious help the black candy appear as dark as possible. Muy spooky!

Also, Adam made one batch with red food coloring and after he had a few red apples he reheated the candy mixture and added black food coloring. Adding black to red will make it darker. He repeated the dipping process. Black food coloring can be found online or at specialty baking stores."
Do Not take the times I gave as gospel they are a complete guess. IMPORTANT:
You will also need "8-10 wooden twigs, twimmed" -- posted by Annacia

Microwaved Caramel Apples

I found this to be the quickest and easiest caramel apple recipe I have tried. I started out using 5 bags of caramels, and then added more as I needed.
Spooktacular Halloween Pudding Cups

Super fun Halloween treats that the kids are sure to enjoy. Easy to make and look great to!! I got the idea off of another website that used chocolate pudding but I thought using vanilla and dying it orange would be really cool since the pudding and oreos together would be traditional Halloween colors. This recipe can be easily divided in half and so on. For the pudding I used the kind that you cook verses the instant. I think the cooked pudding has a much nicer and thicker consistancy. The amount below for the oreos is a guesstimate because it wouldn't let me put down 1 large package of oreos but either way just one regular package of oreos crushed is what you need. Enjoy! -- posted by mamawheezy

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Blondies

From The Best 50 collection of cookbooks. This is straight out of the Brownies and Blondies edition. A little of this goes a LONG way! Not really a blondie by my standards, but it passes off as an interesting bar-type dessert. PLEASE NOTE: Because most people are not really used to tasting molasses, it may take a few bites to fall in love with this recipe. I did not like it at all when I first tried it. But, after giving it a second bite, I found I can't get enough of it. This seemed to happen with EVERYONE who tried it. So, please, before giving an unhappy review, try it again. If you find that the molasses is just too much to handle, try cutting the topping ingredients in half. It really does make a lot of topping as it is. I hope you enjoy this! -- posted by the_cookie_lady

They are different than the usual recipe because you add Butterfinger candy bars for a nice crunch! -- posted by Rollin in the Dough!

Boxing Day Bars

1. To give you that extra energy boost if you are one of those crazy boxing day shoppers! 2. Great recipe to make from leftover Halloween or Christmas candy or pick up the ingredients cheap on Boxing Day! This is my adaptation from a recipe originally published in Better Homes and Gardens... Feel free to substitute candies and let me know if it works (I'm thinking Snickers, chocolate covered cranberries, crushed oreo cookies... endless possibilities!) -- posted by Tanya Pants

Valentine Candy Cones

These are so neat! My sister sent me pictures of these, and they are just darling! She is making them for Valentine's Day with her grandkids. Really cute thing to do with kids. You could probably make things for other holidays such as little eggs for an Easter cone,or candy corn for a Thanksgiving cone! They're really easy and would take no time at all.
