Citrus Dream Smoothie

I haven't tried this yet, but some things you can just tell will be yummy! This recipie doesn't call for milk and can be made with orange sorbet to make this a lactose free beverage. I found this recipe in the Moore local newspaper. Tampico can be found in gallon jugs in the cooler section with the fruit juice. I have found it at Crest and Wallmart. -- posted by LisaA

Banana Faux-lada

I came up with this when I wanted to use up a couple of ripe bananas and I was in the mood for a Colada type drink. I didn't want to use cream of coconut or coconut milk, so this is the result. It still has the same sort of taste, but is much lighter. Since I am not a big fan of heavy creamy drinks, I actually like this better! -- posted by Vino Girl

Berry Wonderful Berry-Banana Vanilla Soy Smoothie

If you do not like soy milk, you may be surprised that you like this smoothie. You cannot taste the soy at all, and the vanilla flavor adds to the wonderful blend of flavors in this smoothie. This is a VERY thick smoothie, and I use it to substitute meals, esp. breakfast. Adding a powder vitamin mix, such as Citriboost or other powder/liquid vitamins works like magic in this smoothie. I use a packet of Splenda to sweeten this but 1/2 tsp. of sugar works too. I have never tried this with milk, I'm not sure it would come close to the same as mine. (this stores wonderfully in the fridge! I just put the lid on the blender container and toss it in the fridge for tomorrows breakfast!) -- posted by ColoradoCookin'

Almond Smoothie - Steak Shake

Anyone who likes smoothies should try almond milk - not just those who are trying to avoid cow's milk. Almonds are extremely rich in protein and iron, even more so than red meat (so I've heard). That's why we sometimes call this a "steak shake." It's so yummy and easy to make, and it sustains us all morning. -- posted by blumasara

Sic a Monkey on Your Pms (Moody Time of the Month)

This is just a cold version of my Hot Cocoa for PMS that I have listed. This sweet dessert beverage is rich in calcium, magnesium and potassium, all which are thought to help relieve PMS symptoms. Other sources of nutrients are the antioxidant rich cocoa which is also high in fiber. The cocoa powder really curbs cravings. I already have this listed in my recipes under another name, but I wanted to give it an alternative title for PMS sufferers to find easily. -- posted by Rose's Granddaughter

Chocolate Soy Banana Smoothie

Chocolate soy milk and frozen bananas whipped up together in a blender make a quick, tasty smoothie that my family loves. It is healthy and easy...two great "ingredients" for a great recipie. If you are not a soy fan, don't worry. It doesn't taste anything like soy according to my husband (who does NOT eat soy). The amount is for one, but we usually triple it since there are three of us. If you need more servings, you should do it in two batches if you have an average sized blender. -- posted by AWinPA

Banana-Based Lactose-Free Fruit Smooth

This delicious and healthy treat has delighted all who've tried it! The unfrozen ripe banana provides a creamy base, negating the need for yogurt or cream. I've found that when I use frozen fruit I have to reduce the amount of ice and increase the amount of chilled water to retain a smooth consistency. -- posted by Resilient

Looking for ways to use up some leftover silken tofu, I found a similar recipe on the Nasoya website. Its also a non-dairy drink which is a bonus! And its very nutritious.
Sommer's Dark Chocolate Banana Berry Smoothie (With a Tropical T

I just made this up tonight and it's just another variation on a smoothie creation. I created this because I have been craving fruit and chocolate, but also had a couple ingredients that needed using up. This time I decided to measure the ingredients, for curiosity's sake, really, and for those who feel better about more exact measurements. This smoothie is non-dairy; made with soy yogurt and soy milk, and the Hershey's chocolate syrup has no dairy in it either. Feel free to substitute the real stuff if you don't have to worry about it. This also has bananas and pineapple chunks in it, but the berry is a bit more prominent along with the chocolate. Btw, I just realized I forgot to put strawberries in, oops.. Oh well, it's still very good in my opinion, I hope you enjoy it. :) This made approximately 16 oz, so either one very large serving, or 2 average servings.
Sommer's Strawberry Banana Peach Smoothie (Dairy-Free)

Yep, it's another one of my creations, and this one is probably my simplest one yet, with the least ingredients, and so tasty! To ensure this is dairy-free, I used soy milk and soy yogurt. My favorite brand to use is Silk, and so I used Silk brand Organic Unsweetened Soy Milk and Silk Live! brand peach soy yogurt. I had previously sliced organic bananas that I had then frozen on a foil-lined baking sheet, and placed frozen slices into a freezer bag. I used frozen whole unsweetened strawberries from the freezer section of my grocery store. I was surprised, I did not add any honey, vanilla, or anything extra to this smoothie and I think it turned out just right, but if you desire, you may add additional ingredients. I love how smoothies can be so versatile. Hope you enjoy this! :) This filled approximately 3/4 of a 20oz bottle. -- posted by blancpage

Sommer's Slushy Strawberry Mandarin Brain Freeze

Just four ingredients! I had fresh strawberries that were getting soft, so I froze them. I had a leftover single-serving cup of mandarin oranges in juice, so I froze that too. I placed the frozen strawberries and frozen mandarin oranges plus their juice into the blender with a bit of cold water. This is a recipe I just created tonight. I was going to add some frozen (from fresh) blackberries, but my bf had expressed his desire to use them to make a blackberry shake, and there weren't enough blackberries for us both to share. Oh well! I just finished making this right before I completed my recipe submission and imo it's really good! It's very refreshing and tastes fresh too. I used about a tsp of honey and it's perfect. This reminds me of a Dole Frozen Whole Fruit Bar, except it's drinkable. There are also some nice pieces of strawberry left in it that make this really pretty and yummy. Be careful, this really will give you a brain freeze! Lol. :) This really doesn't need blackberries in it, I think it's great as-is, but the blackberries would add a different flavor, depending on what you are after. This one tastes predominantly strawberry with mandarin orange sneaking as a great background flavor. Edited to add: I bet you can make this a Brain Freeze with a Kick by adding an ounce of your favorite plain or flavored vodka or plain or flavored rum to this. :D ETA: A clarification on the mandarin oranges. In most stores in the canned fruit and applesauce aisle, there are a variety of fruit companies that sell packages of single-serving, individually sealed plastic cups of mixed or single fruits in light syrup or juice. I had one of these single-serving plastic cups of mandarin orange sections in light syrup or juice that I needed to use up. I froze the entire cup and contents. The cup the mandarin sections were in stood up well to freezing. When I created this recipe, I opened up the plastic cup and dumped the frozen contents (sections and syrup) into the blender along with the frozen strawberries. I note this b/c there was some confusion with another reviewer. I'm sorry for not being more clear. :) If you cannot find these single-serve cups, and you don't mind opening a can of mandarin sections in light syrup or juice and putting them into a freezer-proof container and freezing solid, that will work too. -- posted by blancpage

Banana Colada (Non-Dairy Mocktail)

A luscious-looking drink for all you coconut lovers out there (like me!) who want something smooth and creamy, but don't want or can't have alcohol or dairy. I found this over at the World's Healthiest Foods site while browsing their recipe collection. This variation on the more traditional pina colada recipe is a good cure any tropical cravings you might have! You'll want to make sure to use ripe bananas for this recipe, as it will provide more flavor and sweetness that way. Also, make sure to use only enough liquid to keep the blender going. NOTE: Cook time is freezing time for the bananas. If you're like me and usually have leftover ripe bananas already in the freezer waiting to be used, this recipe is a snap to put together. -- posted by Lynne the Pirate Queen

Banana Latte

I often watch the show, "You Are What You Eat" with Gillian McKeith on BBC America. She was explaining this recipe on one of her shows and I decided I had to try it. I don't know if I got the exact measurements right, but I think I'm quite close. This is delicious and fast and easy. I think it makes an excellent quick breakfast if you have no time to eat, or makes a great snack too. ETA: I caught a rerun of the episode on which this particular recipe was featured and realized my error in naming the recpe "Banana Mocha Smoothie". The correct name for this recipe is "Banana Latte". Sorry for any confusion and no wonder, because mocha usually means chocolate is added, but it wasn't a part of the original recipe. The name "Banana Latte" makes more sense. I'm happy to note on one of the reviews that adding chocolate syrup to make this into a banana mocha works so well, though. :) -- posted by blancpage

Thick Tropical Smoothie With Bananas and Strawberries

Just had a root canal and having other toothache problems so it's difficult for me to chew solid food, including fruits. I recently had purchased a can of Safeway brand Tropical Fruit with Pineapple and Passion Fruit Juices. The ingredients read: pineapple, red papaya, yellow papaya, pineapple juice, water, sugar, passion fruit juice, banana puree, citric acid. I emptied the can with the juice into a freezer-safe container and froze overnight. I let the frozen fruit thaw in the fridge for a few hours and then ran the container under cool water for a about 30 seconds to break up the mass of frozen fruit from the edges of the container and then cut it up with a plastic pancake turner. I used a square-shaped container and broke the frozen fruit up into 4 large pieces so it would fit into the blender. Bf bought me fresh strawberries so chose to use those over the frozen ones I had. I always keep sliced, frozen bananas on hand in the freezer. The water in the recipe is necessary for the blending and it doesn't taste too watered down, and I needed just about 1/2 cup. The honey is for a little added sweetness. This makes two very large servings. This turned out thick, but drinkable. Please let me know how you like my recipe. It would make a great breakfast, snack, or even dessert! Prep time doesn't include freezing time for the fruit. -- posted by blancpage

Delicious Fruit Smoothie!!

I've never had much luck making smoothies until I threw this one together. It is ridiculously good for you, amazingly delicious, and super easy to make! However, my favorite thing about it is that you can store some in the fridge and it stays smoothie consistency for at least 24 hours (maybe longer, I haven't tried yet)! For the frozen strawberries and bananas, I freeze my own from fresh. I imagine the frozen kind you get from the store would work well too. You could try substituting other fruits or juices, but I can only guarantee the results with this recipe! -- posted by ramartin42
