Pistachio Petit-Four Cake

Adapted from "Sky High: Irresisitible Triple-Layer Cake via Leite's Culinaria. I don't need to tell you that this cake is a little insane to make. But I can tell you it's worth it, and not nearly as complicated as it might seem from the outset. It's a one bowl (plus food processor) cake, the jam comes from a jar, ganache takes two minutes to make, and the next time - - the marzipan will come from a tube, already made, rather than making almond paste from scratch. -- posted by Manami

Chocolate No Bake Bundles

Yes ... a desert from me. I'm not too much into desserts, but this is worth mentioning. My girlfriend made these for a bridal shower we both attended last month and they are absolutely delicious. Crunchy, sweet and even though I like chocolate, I'm not a "chocoholic," so for me to really like these, it says a lot. They just firm up on the counter and take minutes to make. A perfect like snack for a party. She found the recipe in a small local cookbook from her home town in TX. She cooks very little, but loves to bake, however, she admits ... her idea of baking is never having to turn on the oven. Well, this was the perfect dish for her and it was a hit with everyone. So I had to share. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Ice Cream Sodas - Barefoot Contessa / Ina Garten

Another one of Ina's recipes... I watched her make this on her show and thought that it looked soo yummy for a (very :)) special treat. You can make as many or as few as you need. What's nice about this dessert is you can customize it for each person with whichever ice cream / sauce they prefer. It would be great for a crowd. I estimated the serving size to the sauces, but am not sure if it's right as I have not tried this yet - but wanted to put the recipe here for safekeeping. -- posted by megs_

Hannah Obee's Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake

This cake is unreal! It is so scrumptious and I only allowed myself a tiny taste! Delizzzzous! Thi cake is one of the final three in the 20th birthday cake competition at BBC Good Food. This dark, rich, moist delectable cake is one of the desserts we are serving for our Thanksgiving Dinner. All family members are invited and we fill up the DR, the patio off the DR, the two lobbies and the hallways! Good Food magazine, November 2009 issue.:) The recipe calls for golden syrup and since the recipe is English, I think it called for Lyle's Golden Syrup. I know it can be found in NYC & other large cities - we found it in a specialty store here in South Miami. A good substitute - Steen's Cane Syrup - good luck. That is what came up when I googled it ;) -- posted by Manami

Garth Brook's German Chocolate Cake With Coconut Frosting

Trisha Yearwood says every February, when it's Garth Brooks birthday, she makes this beautiful and delicious cake for him. She says last fall, Garth made a sad statement like only three more months until you make me that awesome German chocolate cake again! She made the cake the next day. She doubles the frosting recipe to frost the entire cake, because Garth likes extra frosting, but one recipe will frost the tops of the layers and do the trick just fine- unless you are Garth! If you have some frosting left over, it's good spread on graham cracker or on brownies. Okay, it's also good right off the spoon! Enjoy! -- posted by Sharon123

This is a downsized version of my adaptions to her recipe, perfect for making 12 delicious cupcakes that look like miniature pints of Guinness.
Pecan Pie Brownies -- Version II

Here's how to please chocolate lovers and pecan pie lovers with one scrumptious bar. These are the creation of Camilla V. Saulsbury and appeared in her book: Brownie Mix Bliss. These bars have a bottom of chewy chocolate brownie topped with the familiar brown sugar pecan goodness of pecan pie. The author prefers a cakey brownie to contrast with the pecan filling which is why she calls for the three eggs in the brownie batter. But if you want a fudgy brownie, reduce the eggs to 2. Do give these a try! -- posted by Lorraine of AZ

Stef's Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love chocolate chip cookies, and have been playing around for years to find what I consider to be the 'perfect recipe.' This is a combination of recipes from a few different sources, I don't consider it original, more stealing the tips I like from different places (alton brown, the ny times, and paula deen, among others). I particularly like it because the butter is melted - it saves your arm the usual pain of mixing softened butter. These make cookies I like - slightly salty, think, chewy, and butterscotch-y.

If anyone finds changes that work well, please let me know, this recipe is always a work in progress to me.

Enjoy!! -- posted by StephanieBamBam

Sarasota's Simple Eagle Brand Fudge

I can't take any credit for this, and I'm sure this recipe has been made over and over, but, I always like to pass it on. At work, I used to take batches in every Christmas, and I was surprised to see how many people had never tried this simple recipe. For those who know me on Zaar, they know I DON'T like to bake and don't unless I have to. I'll bake cookies or a pie at Christmas, and I do bake these "TWO" cakes; rum and eggnog, and beer bread, but that is about the extent of it. Don't get me wrong, I can when I have to ... I just would rather cook. So I have been making this fudge for some 25 years. A simple mix of Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk and Morsels (any flavor). So, below is the basic recipe and some of my favorites. The best part is ... have fun with flavorings and added ingredients (extracts or liquors and dried fruits, nuts, coconut, etc). A quick 3 minutes in the microwave and then poured in a square 8x8 pan lined with foil or parchment and let cool. The easiest fudge around. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Gluten Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

I have tricked several wheat eaters with this recipe. Very tasty and not gritty like typical gluten free recipes. Our normal grocery store carries soy flour and shouldn't be too hard to find. Definitely worth using! Adds protein and fiber and I think it helps with texture. You could probably get away with omitting the teaspoon of guar gum, but I have it on hand and use it.
I've used both milk, lactaid and soy milk for this recipe without any problems. I have also used pure pumpkin and pumpkin pie mix (this will make the batter more watery, so bake a little longer). You don't have to use the chocolate chips, they'll still be quite tasty! -- posted by Zizek

As you can see, it's a bit labor intensive (to say the least!) but well worth it.This is one of the desserts that we are making to take to a friends' house on the 10th of December, where we are having a reunion of "old" friends. There is only 1 "girl" whom we have know for only 10 years up to 67 years. Godiva web site. ;) -- posted by Manami

Chocolate Meringue Pie (The Best Ever)

We've tried a bunch of chocolate pie recipes from here, but none can hold a candle to this one that I grew up with from the Foods a la Louisiane book (from the Louisiana Women's Farm Bureau). It's easy, not too sweet and inexpensive. Also, using a high quality vanilla makes a huge difference. -- posted by Chef #393251

The Best Blondies!

I got this out of a magazine and changed it around a bit to make it better. Most blondies use melted butterscotch chips but instead you create an authentic rich butterscotch flavor by boiling butter and brown sugar together.

These go great with some vanilla ice cream!

Most people don't know what a blondie is so I tell them it's like if a cookie and a brownie made a baby haha. -- posted by TinaBee08

Molten Chocolate Puddings...mini Butterfinger Souffles

Lovely butterfinger topped mini-suffles. Recipe calls for less, but I like to really lay on the butterfinger dusting. I ground it very finely and coat it both before baking and afterward...then again I love butterfinger! I also like subbing in 50-50 butterfinger chocolate with the chocolate chips!

Chocolate Ganache Tart With Cherry-Vodka Sauce

This tart (from Chow) is as chic as it is simple. The filling requires no baking, so after a few hours in the refrigerator, just slice and serve. While you wait, make the cherry-vodka sauce; its sweet cherry flavor is a perfect complement to the tart’s bittersweet, truffle-like interior.

Game plan: The tart can be made up to 2 days ahead. Store covered in the refrigerator.

Boston Cream Pie

An ancient Good Housekeeping recipe that I religiously make every New Years day. If you've never made a scratch cake, you don't know what you're missing. Using cake flour is a must. See Lennie's recipe #87689. Be sure to properly measure your flour by lightly spooning into a measure cup until overflowing then using the backside of a knife to level off. Too little flour will produce a callapsed cake and too much will have wet spots with dense layers. Cake layers freezeable.

Prep time also includes assembly time. -- posted by gailanng

Ultra Moist Easy Chocolate Bundt Cake

This cake is so easy, I throw it together when I make my bread machine challah as this recipe calls for whites, and the challah calls for yolks. The results are a delicious moist cake, that you can't help sneaking another piece. You can make it more chocolatey if you wish by folding in 1 C. of chocolate chips before baking.
If this is made with Duncan Hines cake mix, it will be pareve (dairy (lactose) and meat free) If using the chocolate chips and want it pareve, be sure to use dairy free ones, I like the 365 whole foods brand. -- posted by Lee Hock

The World's Fastest Chocolate Sour Cream Cake!! Maybe the Best!

So so so good! So so so little work. Well, yeah, come on, you DO have to measure the ingredients. And a simple glaze would be good. But if you are really, I mean REALLY, pressed for time, place a paper doily on the cake, sift confectioner's sugar over it, lift carefully and there you have it. And this is sooo much better than a cake mix. I use an 8" square scalloped pan; that makes it look really special. Nawww, that's not cheating. It's just taking a little help where you can find it! Recipe was found somewhere on the internet April, 1998.
