Pasteis de Nata (Custard Tarts)

A trulty delicious custard tartlet. They might not look very good but everyone who tastes them loves them. I have to have them at every party I give. A traditional Portuguese pastry. Not sure about the prep or cook times, I only made them once many years ago, its easier to buy them ;-) adapted from "Foods of the Azores Islands" by Deolinda Maria Avila (Self-published, 1977) Makes 12 pastries Make sure the pastry ingredients are well chilled and the custard ingredients are at room temperature. The pastry is partially baked before filling to eliminate an uncooked pastry layer that sometimes can result. -- posted by Evamyth

This is one of the most delicious puddings I have ever ate in my whole life, and what I love most about it is that it's extremely easy!
Torta De Laranja ( Orange Torte )

A rather unique twist on a jelly-roll - no flour & no filling. It's described as a rolled pudding rather than a rolled sponge cake & it makes it's own filling. Clever little torte ... Once baked, this pudding will be slightly less than 1/2-inch in height and very fragile. Found on a website with recipes from Portugal. Cook time does not include 3-4 hours standing time (the torta, not you ;-) so plan ahead.
Queijadas De Sintra (Portuguese Cheese Tarts With Cinnamon)

Portuguese towns and cities alike are incredibly proud of their traditional sweets and pastries. Sintra, a beautiful hill town not far outside of Lisbon, is understandably proud of this recipe. It is believed that this recipe dates from the 14th Century! The actual recipe is, understandably, a close-guarded ages old secret, but this is a close approximation that I found on the internet. I visited Sintra a few years ago and was amazed at how wonderful these tarts tasted! These keep longer than most pastries if stored in an airtight container. (I'm not too sure of the yield - what I have provided is an approximation). -- posted by Shannon W.

Portuguese Almond Torte (Bolo De Amêndoa)

Recipe by David Leite (found on Leite's Culinaria...great site for Portuguese cuisine! It's very entertaining to read Leite's recipes...he has a fun, witty way of describing the cooking processes!).
This torte is made with no flour, making it very moist and dense — supposedly this is just the way the Portuguese like it! To decorate it, the chef recommends sprinkling on a bit of confectioners' sugar or spooning on some preserves and whipped cream. -- posted by FolkDiva

Simple, healthy, and lovely dessert from Top Tour of Spain site posted for ZWT5. Amounts for brown sugar were vague so I guessed at what they meant. What does little brown sugar or 1 glass of single cream mean? If someone else can clarify especially the cream amount, zmail me. Feel free to use whatever fruit you have on hand. Notice how you can grill it outside or under your broiler. No time was given for how long to grill it so think it might be 2 minutes? -- posted by WiGal

Step 8 bothers me a bit. If you stir it while it is in the oven, you must have to not stir it the last 5 minutes or so-so that it can brown? Just not use to stirring my baked goods, I guess.
