Baked Sweet Potato Fries

The spices in these potato wedges really go well with sweet potatoes, but I've used white potatoes too.

If you don't have the whole spices, you can substitute ground - 1 Tbsp whole= 1 tsp ground.

Grandma's Sweet Potato Crunch (Also Called Sweet Potato Souffle)

My grandma did not like marshmallows on her sweet potatoes, but she would make it half and half for the kids. When she would make this for the holidays there was always a little Maker's Mark in it, but you can also leave the bourbon out if you don't have any on hand. I make mine just like she always did, and I still sneak into the fridge with a spoon and go after these potatoes! This recipe makes enough for about 6-8 people, but we usually double it since it's so good cold. -- posted by CharlieGal

Sweet Savory and Spicy Potato Salad

My friend Tricia made this for a cookout and I fell in love! It is the only potato salad I will make from now on. My husband never eats potato sald. He says "If there is meat around, why waste the time on side dishes?" He ate two HUGE servings of this......it is THAT good! If you cannot find candied jalapenos, just use one small fresh jalapeno (seeded and minced) and a tablespoon of sugar....it is just as good. We love curry, so we add more curry powder. Taste it and customize it to your taste!

The long prep time is the passive time needed to chill the potatoes. -- posted by LizP

Whipped Sweet Potatoes and Bananas With Honey

From Tyler Florence, Ultimate Thanksgiving. I like the idea of using banana and honey instead of sugar for the sweetness. I can't stand those yucky, overly sweet sweet potatoes that we here in the south usually serve. This is a better option for those of us who enjoy sweet potatoes without all the sugar. I did retain the pecan topping but you can probably cut it back to 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Enjoy! -- posted by ThreeGoodCooks

Paula Deen Sweet Potato Balls

This recipe came directly from the FoodNetwork.com website, and they were highlighted as one of Paula's Thanksgiving 2009 foods in her Thanksgiving Special aired in 19 November 2009 on Food Network . The original airing of the "Thanksgiving Special" was 10 November 2005...just in case you want to look back in the archives!

Some say the recipe is too sweet. So, you may want to test-drive the recipe for your own sweetness. These suggestions you might make as I did: I let the sweet potatoes fully cool before mashing, I omitted the orange zest and put just a small amount of orange juice (not a huge orange taste fan), and cut back the brown sugar to 1/3 of a cup. One reviewer said that she only used 1/2 of a large marshmallow after she had them oozing out with a full marshmallow. However, Paula Deen states that if you overcook your Sweet Potato Balls then the marshmallow will burst out of the ball. So be careful not to over-bake them if you choose a whole marshmallow. I chose to roll the balls in chopped pecans and then placed each ball in a cup of a nonstick muffin tin (the recipe made exactly 12 large balls--enough to fill a full tin). I also made some with the coconut mixture. Another option would be to roll them in oats, sugar, & cinnamon OR coconut & pecans. I put the filled muffin tin in the refrigerator overnight and baked the next day after removing my turkey from the oven. They came out perfectly! -- posted by McGowan Family

Healthy Grilled Sweet Potato Steak Fries

Make sure you keep the skins on so the potatoes stay intact on the grill.

Can be prepared in advance (step 1-2) and kept at room temperature for 4 hours or refrigerate for up to 8 hours.

Serve with a quick mix of sour cream (I use fat-free), chives, and bacon bits (try turkey bacon!)

Maple Whipped Sweet Potatoes

To make it easier, used canned sweet potatoes.

Can be made the night before and reheated in buttered dish at 350F for 20 mins or on moderate heat on stovetop for 10 mins.

I like to add a fair amt of ginger and cloves! But then its getting much more traditional hehe -- posted by GoldsmithLissa

Looking forward to trying it this holiday season as a fun and different side dish! Please note that the 'jerk' seasoning amounts make 1.3 cups. YOU ONLY WANT TO USE 2 TABLESPOONS OF IT on each 1.5 lb. measure of potatoes. -- posted by KWB

Gramma's Glazed Candied Sweet Potato Slices

This is the recipe my gramma used to make, passed down to my mom and all of my 7 siblings. It takes times so grab yourself a cocktail and relax. It's worth the wait! One potato generally is enough for 1-2 people. Select sweet potatoes that are uniform in diameter. I do not like to use really chubby ones. I prefer to use an electric frying pan because it has the most even cooking temperature. -- posted by Chicagoland Chef du Jour

Sweet Potatoes & Pears With Bourbon Glaze

This Christmas I was looking for a sweet potato recipe that did not have the melted marshmellow topping. We found this on gumbopages and have to thank "The Oregonian Food Section" for such a wonderful recipe. The bourbon cooks off and leaves a very rich flavor to complement the pears and sweet potatoes. YUMMY!

Pastor Bobby Smith Yams

I had these cinnamon sweet potatoes at a Thanksgiving lunch. I thought these were so yummy and I had to ask Bobby Smith how to make them. Bobby says these are alot of work but the pay-off is so sweet. When I made these yams I used to much nutmeg I'm gonna cut back on this during the tasting of the grease/syrup. I did use a good amount of cinnamon and will use a bit more next time. My future hubby thought these were good but a bit to sweet so next time I'll go more easy on the brown sugar and sugar. I did use Splenda for both. As for the molasses I only used 2 tablespoons as that's all I can use. -- posted by internetnut
