Ed's Sugar Cookies

This is my husband's recipe and it has withstood the test of time. These delicious cookies are light & airy and fun to decorate. My husband is the Sugar Cookie king in our family and our grown kids still anxiously ask each year if Dad is making sugar cookies this Christmas :). Ed prefers using insulated cookie sheets. Yield and baking time may vary, depending on rolled dough thickness, the size of the cookie cutters and oven accuracy. NOTE: Chilling time is included in prep time. Overnight refrigeration is best, but if you are in a hurry, you can get by with chilling the dough for at least two hours. Do not skip the chilling step or the cookies may not hold their shape. -- posted by Kat's Mom

Cranberry-White Chocolate Shortbread

I've been making these cookies for a few years now and they have always been a hit! They have a very nice presentation and seem like they are much more difficult to make than they are, not to mention they are very tasty too. They are also very easy to make - I usually substitute a bag of white chocolate chips for the Baker's chocolate to make it even easier. -- posted by Chef #578080

The rich taste of chololate with espresso layered with peppermint

Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies

These will take center stage when you set out your Christmas goodies. I found these on a blog called Abby Sweets. They are baked in 1-inch paper or foil baking cups which means you can use the Christmas ones. The photo showed these with a chocolate glaze. Red and green sprinkles were used so they looked festive! The stems seem to shout out to everyone, "Here I am!" I couldn't find any other recipe quite like this here, so here it is! The recipe did not give the amount of cookies and I haven't made them yet, so I am making a guess. -- posted by Debaylady

The most delicious cookies I have ever tasted! The coconut and orange zest make this the perfect special holiday cookie!
I saw this recipe in an advertisment for Challenge Butter and I wanted to try a new cookie for the holidays...out of about a dozen different types of cookies I bake each year, these were and are the BEST!
And you don't have to make them very big, they make great bite size treats as well!

Jazzbow Cookies

This is the recipe of Anna Bosnjak, cherished neighbor and mother of four wonderful daughters.

It's a traditional Christmas Cookie brought to America by Croatian and Serbian Immigrants. Unfortunately it requires a special jazzbow cookie mold that is prized by their owners and handed down from generation to generation. I believe you could use any 1/2 inch deep mold if needed. -- posted by Chef #1482258

Brownie Alpine Biscotti

Best Glazed Butter Cookies (America's Test Kitchen)

The geniuses at America's Test Kitchen have created tender, crispy cookies that roll out easily. Cream cheese—a surprise ingredient—gives the cookies flavor and richness without altering their texture. For a dough that's incredibly easy to handle, this recipe uses the "reverse" creaming method: incorporate slightly softened—not melted—butter into the flour and sugar (rather than first creaming the butter and sugar).
If desired, the cookies can be finished with sprinkles or other decorations immediately after glazing.

Incredible Gluten Free Butter Cookies

These cookies are so delectable it's hard to believe they are gluten free ;-)
Shortbread-like and not overly sweet, they keep very well and make a perfect holiday gift! The recipe is a result of experimenting with all kinds of cookie recipes, combining things I liked and then patiently changing the resulting recipe slightly, time after time until it met my expectations. I hope it will meet yours as well :-) The dough is easy to roll out for cutting and also suitable for using a cookie press. I often freeze them raw in large amounts to bake later, but even without freezing these cookies hardly spread.
If you need to avoid lactose, you can replace the butter with 4/5 dairy free margarine and 1/5 Ghee so as to have the buttery taste without the lactose. -- posted by Suzy mom to 2

Secret Ingredient Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yes, another all-time favorite recipe for the all-time favorite cookie!
I stumbled upon this "Once Upon a Chef" recipe and knew I had to try it. I'm thinking the secret ingredients are the processed oats and coconut which give the cookie a chewy inside, but a crisp outside. They are delectable! My husband, who doesn't like coconut, really loved these. I used a coffee grinder to pulverize the oatmeal since I don't have a food processor and it worked great. -- posted by DuChick

The Best Blondies!

I got this out of a magazine and changed it around a bit to make it better. Most blondies use melted butterscotch chips but instead you create an authentic rich butterscotch flavor by boiling butter and brown sugar together.

These go great with some vanilla ice cream!

Most people don't know what a blondie is so I tell them it's like if a cookie and a brownie made a baby haha. -- posted by TinaBee08

Pesche - Italian Peaches Cookies

Labor-intensive, but well worth the effort. These cookies are typically only served at weddings or special holidays because they require a gathering of women to increase the rate of production and the fun. My cousins and I spent countless holidays sneaking into the freezer to snag a tasty frozen peach. Finally, we convinced my nonna to teach us how to make this special peaches and we have enjoyed making them ever since. They freeze well and are actually better if frozen immediately and taken out when needed. These are meant to be enjoyed with many friends and family and they NEVER disappoint. In fact, after living in Italy for two years, I learned that my nonna's peaches were better than any I could find in Italy. I think some recipes have been corrupted by modern conveniences, but my nonna's recipe has not changed since she immigrated in the 50's. -- posted by Chef #1491707

Pumpkin Biscotti With White Chocolate

I included them on my Christmas cookie platters this year, and everyone made a point of telling me how good they were. I found the recipe on the web. The raisins were my idea. Dried cranberries would be as good, if not much, much better. Or leave them out completely. Both light and dark brown sugar work beautifully, although I think I like the dark brown sugar version just a tiny tad more. I used good-quality white chocolate chips mixed with about 1/2 teaspoon of shortening for the drizzle. And if you can, use freshly ground nutmeg. Also, you can use up to 3/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries. Any way you try it, I think you'll love them.
Light & Flaky Cinnamon Rugelach

The ingredients might look the same as other recipes, but the technique is unique and the "secret" ingredient won Tina Wasserman's reputation as a baker and is now one of her most sought-after recipes. (Tina is a well-known Dallas cookbook author, chef, food columnist, and cooking instructor.)
The mixing technique of the mixer allows the cream cheese and butter to really combine and become light and airy. This results in a flaky, crisp, but tender, finished product.
The vigorous beating of the butter and cream cheese before adding the flour creates a light, layered dough similar to puff pastry. Rolling the dough in confectioners' sugar to give a slight glaze to the finished pastry and helps balance the richness of the dough with the sweet filling. Make sure the dough is well chilled or it will not roll out properly.
*NOTE: In general, it is not a good idea to use salted butter in baked goods. However, because of the lack of liquid in rugelach dough, salted butter is the only way to get the salt evenly distributed. (The addition of a little salt is important to the flavor.) -- posted by blucoat

Cream Wafers

These are my most favorite cookies. I bake them for holidays and special occasions. My family absolutely loves them as well. If you read the ingredients, you might not be able to envision how decadent these really are. They are very light and flaky, resemble a puff pastry, and practically melt in your mouth. You can use them plain, or fill them with special frosting. They taste great either way, but of course are much richer with the filling.
Foam Biscuits (Cookies) by Brianne's Nanna

Many many years ago my daughter brought home a recipe that was shared at her kindergarten class by a little girl called Brianne for her nanna's biscuits.
The note at the bottom of the recipe made it worth keeping all this time & although I have not made this yet I thought that someone may remember them from their childhood.
The note reads:
"This makes lots & lots of biscuits.
My nanna had 5 children during the war and she used it lots so she could feed the children.
She never bought biscuits all her life. Nanna always made these for all her grandchildren's birthday parties and they are my favourite biscuits.

Cinnamon Twists

My aunt used to make these cookies when I was younger, and I liked them enough to have my mother get the recipe for them. My aunt died not long after, and the recipe was misplaced. It recently resurfaced, so I'm submitting it to Zaar so it doesn't get lost again.

(Unfortunately the recipe doesn't say how large or thick the dough circles should be, so some experimentation might be necessary! I've also guessed at the cooking time - please watch your cookies!) -- posted by CassiaDawn

Lemoniest Lemon Squares

These are the best lemon bars I've ever tried. They have a fabulously buttery crust, a not too sweet or too tart curd-like lemony filling, and a thin chewy top. The recipe is from San Francisco pastry chef Emily Luchetti's cookbook, "Classic Stars Desserts". With more than a cup of fresh lemon juice, the lemon flavour is really pronounced, the filling sets up real well and the dusted sugar makes for a beautiful presentation.

NOTE: The squares can be made a day in advance, covered and refrigerated. Bring to room temperature before serving. Dust with confectioner's sugar before serving. -- posted by blucoat
