Salty Peanut Chews

These sticky, chewy candies are positively addictive. They'll keep, covered in the refrigerator, for 1 week. They remind me of a candy I had, growing up in Canada, called 'eatmores' or something like that (a LONG time ago). If anyone remembers the name of this candy/confection, I'd love to know it.
Alton Brown's White Trash

Alton once posted this on his website and said that he always cranks out a bushel or two of it during the holidays. He also said "Dole this stuff out carefully. It is highly habit forming." I totally agree and for this reason have no earthly idea how many servings it makes! Depends on how much you can eat! LOL Especially good to anyone who likes the salty-sweet combination. Cooking time is cooling time. -- posted by flower7

Pecan Cream Mints

Liquid egg whites from a carton work great for splitting the recipe for two different flavor mints from the same batch.
Turron De Alicante / Almond Nougat

Turron is a product I grew up eating during Christmas time. It's a hard candy confection made out of caramel and almonds. There are other kinds out there, soft, chewy, etc. I used to be able to buy it at the store, but sometimes it's hard to find. The oblea might be hard to find, check in the international isle at your local store. This is mainly sold in Spain. You can also try my recipe for obleas if you have the time.(Convert to US measurements if needed) Enjoy -- posted by Kitty Kat Cook

It is my understanding they no longer recommend you eat Paraffin wax. You can use candy making chocolate if you prefer. Of note: these freeze really well and can be made several weeks before Christmas. -- posted by Erindipity

Praline and Sesame Candy

I recently found this recipe in a cookbook given to me by another Zaar member. My family always makes candy for our holiday tins and this looks as though it would be a great addition to the collection. Have not tried it yet, so feedback is welcome. The name praline strikes me as peculiar since that term is generally given to southern confections made with pecans, not walnuts. This makes smallish pieces so you may want to double as I will. Cooking time includes initial cooling time. -- posted by justcallmetoni

Traditional Scottish Recipes - Broken Biscuit Cake

Another recipe I found on rampantscotland.com which is resourceful, easy, rich and makes a huge amount. Hope you enjoy this. This is the description of this on their web site.

In the old days, when biscuits were sold loose, grocers sold mixed, broken biscuits at a lower price. This recipe was a good way of using them up and as a cake which requires no cooking, it can be easily made by the kids as well as experienced cooks.
Chex Candy Clusters

This recipe is from the www.bettycrocker.com website. "Love snacks that are both sweet and salty? Here is a quick-to-make treat for you!" Here are some notes from the Betty Crocker Kitchen: Time Saver - Use your microwave to melt the candy coating. Place the chunks in a 4-cup microwavable measuring cup or 1-quart microwavable casserole. Microwave uncovered on High 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes 30 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds, until almost melted, then stir until smooth.
Success - If you have an extra set of hands in the kitchen, your helper can mix the dry ingredients while you melt the candy coating and chocolate chips, then can help break up the treat after it sets.
Substitution - Peanuts make an easy stand-in for the cashews. -- posted by senseicheryl

Cranberry Pistachio Bark

This is a Taste Of Home recipe that originally called for 1 1/4 cups dried cherries. Since I find the white chocolate to be so sweet I subbed cranberries to give it a little tartness. I buy the pistachios already roasted to save time and if I can find peeled ones that's even better. I think next time I make this I'm going to double the cranberries and pistachios - I'll come back and post my thoughts on doubling these ingredients after a taste test. This makes a very pretty and festive looking bark for the holidays. Also, I find Merckens has a much better taste so if possible use Merckens which is sometimes packaged under the brand name of CK Products. -- posted by Luby Luby Luby

Dark Chocolate Cranberry and Cashew Fudge

I recently made JackieOhNo!'s recipe #386677 and that showed me that it can actually be pretty easy to make fudge. So, it got my creative juices flowing and I decided to try to play around and see what I can do come up with a new fudge recipe. I love dark chocolate and so that is the direction I went and threw in the other ingredients to try to cut through the richness. I included a couple hours chilling time in the cooking time but really the longer you leave it the better it gets. -- posted by Sarah_Jayne

Coconut Ice - Old-Fashioned Sweet Shop Coconut Candy

A trip down Memory Lane! This is my mum's recipe for Coconut Ice, little coconut squares which are coloured pink and white, and used to be popular in old-fashioned British sweet (candy) shops. My mum used to make trays and trays of these for our Church fêtes, as well as for Christmas and for gifts. These lovely little coconut morsels are very popular in Scotland where I think my mum's recipe originated – either from my Scottish grandmother or an auntie. These are great fun to make with the children, as they are easy as well as being "no-cook". If you plan to make them for gifts or to sell, pack them into attractive cellophane bags, glass jars or boxes and add a pretty ribbon as well as a label of ingredients and storage details. This recipe is part of my Old Fashioned Sweet Shop collection of recipes, sweets, candies, fudges, sugar plums and chocolates! -- posted by French Tart
