Beetroot Dip / Beet Dip

This was given to me by an Egyptian friend who said it's a family recipe. I like the fact it's doesn't contain dairy and nuts so it was perfect for Menu #24612 because we had a few guest who are lactose intolerant and have an allergic to nuts. You can chill the dip until it's needed. It will keep for two days in the refrigerator but the flavour will enhance -- posted by Chef floWer

Okay new year time to be healthy right? Following the south beach or any low carb diet and they all recomend cottage cheese. Well I can't seem to get it past my mouth (the look tastes fine I am sure).
Festive Hot Broccoli Dip

I found this recipe on the back of a box of Wheat Thin Crackers. I've made it both with the pimentos and I've also subbed out the pimientos and used a pretty red pepper (if they are on sale). The original recipe calls for Miracle Whip Salad Dressing but I've used a low-fat mayonaisse and it tastes just as nice - actually not as sweet. So feel free to adjust to your preference on that. I like to add a bit of garlic to this dip too to give it a bit more zing so I've included that as optional. I love serving this with baked bagel chips or wheat crackers - but use what you prefer! Hope you enjoy. -- posted by HokiesLady

One of my husbands co-workers made this for us one time. We loved it so much we got the recipe from her. It is a little time consuming but well worth the work. Using a Vidalia Chop Wizard cuts down a lot on prep time.
Alicia's Guacamole *allergy Friendly*

I had some ripe avocados I needed to use up and thought I'd make a guacamole. However I couldn't find a recipe on zaar that worked for us. They either had things I just didn't have on hand, or were made with things like sour cream or mayo which are both foods we can no longer enjoy since finding out my son is allergic to both dairy and eggs. So I whipped this up with things I had on hand and we enjoyed it very much.
Warm Lobster Dip (Or Crabmeat, or Sea Legs, or Baby Shrimp)

This is a pretty tasty recipe for warm lobster dip. Again, as in title, you could substitute with crabmeat, sea legs, or tiny baby shrimp if you like. I happen to mostly use my "leftover" lobster tail or claw meat when I make this. I have a great 1 qt. chafing server with a tea light beneath it that I usually prepare this in. Serve with pita chips, crackers, baguette slices, or vegetables. You can make this thicker or thinner depending on the amount of half & half and sour cream you use - prepare as you like. -- posted by BlondieItaliana

Hurry-Up Black Bean Dip

I love Emerald Valley Kitchens bean dips from Eugene, OR, and I decided to find my own bean dip instead of purchasing theirs. Don't be fooled by the ingredients into thinking it's too healthy to be delicious because this is good for you and tasty too! I found this recipe on epicurious.com posted by Pableaux Johnson. He takes it to potlucks because it's simple to fix. This is great unheated just the way it is, but you could also heat it in the microwave and top with a little cheese if you prefer a hot bean dip. I mixed my salt and pepper with the other ingredients instead of adding it on top before serving. If you're using canned black beans, drain and rinse them. I used black beans already prepared from my freezer. -- posted by AmyZoe

Asperge Violette: Violet Asparagus With Hollandaise Sauce

A springtime treat in France, violet asparagus - gently steamed and then served with hollandaise sauce, divine! All that is needed to accompany this seasonal delicacy is crusty bread and chilled white wine. There are several ways of making this classic French sauce, I give you a very simple method here, and this recipe is well behaved enough to stay warm for up to 30 minutes! There are three types of cultivated asparagus: white, violet and green. The exposure time of asparagus to sunlight determines its colour – under sunlight the white asparagus turns first violet and then green. The cultivation methods applied determine the colour. Green asparagus for example is grown above ground and tastes most similar to the “original” wild asparagus. I like to sprinkle fresh violets from the garden on my asparagus - violets are edible and even if you do not eat them, they make a beautiful garnish! Serves 4 as an appetiser and 2 to 3 as a light meal. -- posted by French Tart

Garbanzo Pesto Dip

I had some already prepared pesto sauce from a mix and wanted to make something with garbanzo beans. Who knew Bush Beans had a recipe that combined the two? You can use this as an appetizer or as a sandwich spread. I added a little basil because I didn't have basil pesto sauce, but there are recipes on zaar for the exact thing if you want to make your own. This is an excellent dip that took me by surprise. This dip is incredibly easy and delicious.

This is the smallest I have tried to make this recipe, but I have made it larger going up in ingredients by multiples. 1,1,1 - 2,2,2 - 3,3,3... -- posted by Justin, B.

The Ultimate Guacamole

I've never made guacamole with jalapenos before, and I really liked it. In fact, I'd probably use extra next time for more of a bite. The only thing I noticed about this recipe was a teaspoon of salt was too salty (only an opinion). It gave me an excuse to throw in an extra avocado and make a little more guacamole. I still didn't have leftovers so you might want to double or triple it. This recipe came from Country Living. Serving size is estimated because it wasn't listed. -- posted by AmyZoe

I have perfected this recipe over time with trial and error and it is now, in my opinion, absolutely perfect. I use fresh spinach in my recipe. I'm sure you could use frozen, although I never have, so I can't give any advice on measurements. I cut up pitas into triangles and brush them with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic salt and heat them int he oven. Goes great with the dip and makes a nice presentation.
Caramelized Onion Dip

Taken from the CHOW newsletter:
"The addition of goat cheese mimics the zip of Lipton’s famous onion soup mix. We’ve updated classic onion dip by swapping the pack of dehydrated Lipton soup mix for real caramelized onions and goat cheese—but the sweet, salty, tangy flavors you remember are all there. Reminisce with a bag of potato chips. This may be made up to 2 days in advance and refrigerated in a covered container; stir before serving." *Cook time is chill time* -- posted by alligirl

Chicken Satay Thai Style W/ Peanut Sauce

Ultimate Cheese Dip

My friend Cheryl gave me this recipe - the saying is around our town if Cheryl makes it, it's got to be good. She first made it for a superbowl party. My team wasn't playing, I was just there for the food:) .... and boy was it worth it!

And to top it off it's SUPER easy, but tastes like you labored. If you don't like watching sports on TV, my suggestion is to make this, set it out for the guys mezmerized by your tv, and hit the mall. Chances are you'll be back before they even know you are gone.

This recipe is simple, make it once, then next time, change it up, add different cheeses, or whatever strikes your fancy. But made as written..............yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm -- posted by velvet_sj

Rockin' Hummus

I've tried a lot of hummus recipes but this is the first one that came close to Sabra - my favorite brand. I adapted this recipe from one I found online at a blog by Jonah Lisa. She states that it is the order in which the ingredients are combined that makes the hummus so creamy in the end. I don't know how true that is but I follow her method and always end up with great stuff that rivals my favorite brand. I use my blender but I'm sure a food processor would work great too.
Roast Eggplant With Walnuts

This wonderful appetizer, when served with warm pita, marinated strips of red pepper & tasty olives, can be a meal unto itself... or tucked into a pita with the aforementioned for lunch, a very nice lunch. Per the Times: "This Turkish recipe is from Paula Wolfert's upcoming book, "The Slow Mediterranean Kitchen," which will be published in October by Wiley. Wolfert notes that the slower the grilling, the smokier the flavor of the eggplant. She thanks Dr. Ayse Baysal for sharing the recipe."
Note: When large eggplants are roasted whole, you may notice black juices seeping out of the skin. If this happens, immediately slit the eggplant on one side and drain on a slanted board in the sink. -- posted by Buster's friend

V's Soft Turkey Taquitos With Southwestern Dip

Every year my dad would make these taquitos with leftover turkey. The corn tortillas are lightly fried in oil, rolled with turkey and sealed on a griddle and come out soft with a nice crunch with the turkey still moist and delicious. These are awesome because they are not deep fried or baked. I took over the tradition and have been making these for years. My family won't eat any leftover turkey in any other form except these soft taquitos. We look forward to these as an appetizer or a meal served with my own Southwestern Dip, Cheese Sauce, Salsa and my Chunky Guacomole the day after thanksgiving. -- posted by Vseward (Chef~V)

Buffalo Chicken Wing Dip

a great way to enjoy chicken wings without the mess. great served with celery or tortilla chips for dipping. I like to use a crock pot to keep this dip warm during parties, just mix everything up on the stove than transfer to the crock pot or you can use a electric fondue pot on warm too. If you don't want to use those then separate into small batches in oven safe dishes so you can keep the dip warm. Not sure where the recipe came from, everyone I know has their own spin for it. -- posted by Chef ChristinaMac

Low Sodium Guacamole Dip

This is an excellent, healthy, low sodium, guacamole recipe. To make sure it is low sodium, be sure to use smart salt (http://smartsalt.com). -- posted by Low Sodium Chef

Weight Watchers Creamy Mexican Dip

I got this dip from the WW site...it is absolutely delicious and just ONE POINT per serving! I serve it with baked Tostitos chips for a guilt-free treat, but no one would ever guess it's low fat if you served it to guests. Keep in mind, the creamy ingredients cool down the salsa, so a hot salsa will yield a nice medium dip. Great way to get your mexican dip fix. Enjoy! -- posted by Mom67

A great dip for an appetizer, dessert, side, or snack. Very easy too!
It also goes great with graham or Ritz crackers -- posted by jai_lea_13
