Queen City Metts

A Cincinnati tradition in grilling season with the added touch of a Wisconsinite. The smoked mettwurst is different from the German type, which is more spreadable. You may want to use smoked sausage or kielbasa if metts are not available in your area. Great for camping or grilling at picnic areas that allow fires. -- posted by Sue L

Grilled Bratwurst and Beer

I found this recipe in a Weber BBQ cookbook and liked it for it's simplicity and for the fact that I could let them cook away on the grill with a minimum of supervision. My guests loved them! The next day, I re-grilled the leftovers and they were just as good, if not better, than they were the night before. My brats were quite large with 4 of them to a pound so the serving size here is approximate. -- posted by Hey Jude

Cream Can Supper

This has been a popular summer fare for parties and gatherings in our area. You will need a 10 gallon cream can (such as used in a dairy) and the burner mechanism for a turkey fryer. This is cooked outdoors due to the open flame of the propane burner and usually served in a wheel barrow that is lined with a plastic tarp. It is fun and rustic for picnics, reunions, and all kinds of summer parties. -- posted by ms_bold

Zucchini and Sausage Milano

Always looking for new zucchini ideas and my kids like Italian sweet (mild) sausages. I add 1 box of cooked penne and split the portions into 2 aluminum containers and froze them. I will defrost it and reheat it in the oven. When it is warmed through, add cheese on top then until melted. This recipe as described makes 2 "dinners" for about 5. You can serve it all at once for about 10. -- posted by Oolala

County Fair Italian Sausage Sandwiches

The only difference between mine and the ones you get at the county fair is that mine are much better -- more TLC! This has become my favorite sandwich over the years and when I serve them at cookouts along with other items (brats, burgers, dogs, etc.) these are ALWAYS the first to go. The recipe is primarily set up as an outdoor cooking technique but they are easy enough to do on the stovetop, except you don't get that great smoke flavor. I prefer to do mine over a campfire of hot coals in an all-steel wok but a charcoal or gas grill and pan will do just as well. If you're using a gas grill, toss a few wet wood chips on the lava rock to make some good smoke.
Petits Farcis - Provençe Stuffed Baked Vegetables

These stuffed vegetables are typical fare from Provençe - the region that hugs the Mediterranean coastline in the South of France. Vegetables, olives and olive oil are used in abundance in Provençe, and this recipe really captures the sun and fragrance of this much-loved area! There are numerous recipes for these famous stuffed vegetables, but this one is my favourite.......all that is needed is crusty bread and a glass of wine, et voila - an excellent light dinner or summer lunch. I have stipulated baby "round" courgettes (zucchini) and tomatoes in this recipe, but you can also use onions and aubergines (eggplant) as well. -- posted by French Tart

Peppered Burgers With Avocado

The avocado/sour cream/lemon "dressing" on this delicious burger gives it a uniquely fresh taste. The pepper refers to both red bell and cracked black pepper. No need to dress this burger with anything else (including salt); there's TONS of flavor here! The ingredients originally called for 400 grams of beef mince and 100 grams of sausage mince, but I’ve converted it to approximate lbs. This is adapted from the Vegemite Cook Book... but I used Marmite for the burgers in the photo.
Owens Sausage and Ground Beef Backyard Burgers

This recipe was included in an ad in my local paper. It sounded so good that we had to try it. We used Owens rolled sausage since I had the coupon. It was great, but I'm sure other sausage brands would work too! The recipe originally said to make 8 patties, but they ended up so small that I decided next time I will make 6 larger patties. We used regular flavored sausage, but my husband and I love spicy food, so I can't wait to try this recipe using hot flavored sausage. Be sure to have all your favorite burger toppings on hand like lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, etc.**Update - made these patties for the 4th of July and used 96/4 extra lean hamburger since the sausage is so "fatty". Doubled the recipe and made 12 patties. They came out just the right size. Huge hit with all the guests! Many tried to guess the "secret ingredient" and were amazed when I told them it was breakfast sausage mixed with the beef. -- posted by Texas Aggie Mom

The Towering Inferno! Chilli, Coconut and Coriander Pork Burger

This is one of my own burger recipes; I made this up one evening when we both fancied a burger, but we also wanted one with a bit of a kick, plus I needed to use up some pork sausage meat! It is such an easy recipe and yet it delivers on taste - PLEASE adjust the heat to your own requirements; it is also a very BIG burger, hence the name! Serve this burger in a standard burger bun, maybe in a ciabatta roll, or with flat breads. A side salad and baked jacket potato would also fit the bill if you are very hungry. I am very proud to say that one of my photos of this burger came first in the Bring on the Burgers Photo Competition. The photo was called Blinded by the Light, and is the photo taken indoors with the strong back light. I won a Recipezaar apron, which I now wear all the time whilst I grill and barbeque! NB: You MUST use high quality, high meat content sausage meat or sausages for these burgers; the cheaper high fat content ones, will JUST not work at all! -- posted by French Tart

Garlic and Rosemary Stuffed Sausages

Adapted from an Australia Day BBQ recipe in the current issue of 'New Idea'. As I don't have a BBQ, when I make these I shall be panfrying them. Please feel free to vary the herbs so that you use your favourite herbs and to use the amount of garlic to meet your taste preferences. The discarded green end of the leek can be saved and used in my Recipe #135453. -- posted by bluemoon downunder

Hot Dogs Cooked in Beer

Be it vegan, turkey, beef, pork, sausage links give it a try.
For those that don't like the Chard dogs with grill marks.
Or you can pre simmer them and then grill them. I myself like grilled but my Dad prefers boiled dogs so I'm posting for him a kicked up version using beer in place of water. -- posted by ~Rita~
