Orange Julius-Style Drink

Who doesn't like an Orange Julius? I got this from Gloria Pitzer's website, even though it is not her recipe. She says - This is probably one of the best copycat recipes of the Orange Julius secret recipes we've come across. The "secret" has got to be the cool whip as it adds that incredible creamy texture to the drink. Enjoy! -- posted by Nif

Delicious Organic Green Smoothy

When my breastfed daughter was around 10 months I started noticing something wasnt quite right, so I went to my Midwife & it turns out I had extremely low iron. Normal is 12 & I was at 7. She told me to be sure to eat my leafy greens, we'll in the hot humidity of South Western Florida the cooler your food is the better! This is so good, my daughter & I drink one every other day now & my iron level is up to a 13 after just one month!!! I can just imagine what its done for her!

I have tried many variations to switch it up a little, adding yogurt makes for a smoother texture (and the active cultures never hurt) Apple Juice can be substituted if you dont have OJ in the house. Mango (i used frozen to avoid the prep) Use your imagination -- posted by mrs.cubana

Troy's Frosty Fruit Smoothie

This frosty non-dairy delight is the standard breakfast in our home every weekend year-round. Frozen fruit (no sugar added) makes for convenience and frostiness. The fresh bananas give it its thick, creamy texture. Couple this smoothie some almonds or pecans on the side, and I suspect this must be a taste of heaven. It makes a blender full and tastes best when made fresh. If you happen to have any leftovers, pour them into freezer pops for a healthy and yummy snack the kids will love. Be creative and use whatever fruits you happen to love. Measurements are approximate, we just fill up the blender. :) -- posted by Southernhopsing

Five Food Group Smoothie

I came up with this recipe while trying to determine a healthy meal-replacement smoothie. I find most meal replacement recipes to be okay, but this is one that was surprisingly good. The orange juice was necessary because its strong flavour masks the spinach.

Be careful with the oatmeal. I think any type will work, but the steel cut variety will add a bit of crunch. -- posted by Fifitrixibelle

An old classic I tried to make a tad healthier. If you're going to say "Screw it!" skip the sugar and vanilla and use some ice cream instead. Either way, it's quite yummy and a simple treat to whip up on a hot day. -- posted by the80srule

Fall Harvest Smoothie

This recipe tastes like pumpkin pie in a glass! You will never know it is packed with veggies and fruits and "good for you stuff". Top with a little fat free whip cream for an extra-special desert. My teen-age daughter begs for this and sometimes we even heat it up for a thick soup. The key to this recipe is to make sure you use a blender/smoothie maker that has enough power to completely puree alll the ingredients; otherwise the squash will stay stringy. -- posted by RackeSRN

I had a can of pumpkin puree (leftover from #396754) to use up, so I whipped up -- or rather, blended -- this simple smoothie for breakfast. Increase the honey (or other alternative sweetener) if you want a sweeter flavor.
Strawberry Raspberry Smoothie

I made this completely by accident, and i love it! I use Yoplait thick and creamy yougurt, i think it gives the drink the best texture, and I also use the condensed frozen juice, welches white grape is the best, but apple also works, depends on how sweet you like it. I also found substituting 1 Delmonte Fruit chiller in polar raspberry tastes better to me than the frozen berries themselves. To each his own.
For a healthier smoothie use light yougurt, no sugar added juice, and skim milk. -- posted by Chef #1470073

Kids Berrynana Smoothie

Smoothie recipe I found in the healthy food section of Parents Magazine. I altered it slightly by adding blueberries and strawberries and increasing the yogurt and ice. My daughter loved it, which I was surprised. It isn't sweet at all. You can taste all the fruit in it. I enjoyed it, and I'm sure over time I'll get used to a non-sweet smoothie. I liked this recipe because it didn't contain any fruit juice or sugar or honey. Very kid friendly. -- posted by Trixyinaz
