Yogurt Breakfast Smoothie

I make one of these shakes for breakfast almost every morning. Sometimes I make extra for a quick snack mid-morning too. The intent of this is something filling, but healthy.

Sometimes I will sometimes mix in 1t of some kind of protein powder (e.g., whey powder) if I need the extra filling nature of protein. Be mindful of how much protein powder is added as it can make the shake very filling -- I used to to 1T but that was far too much.

As a note, I used to mix with a hand blender wand. I found that did not give the smoothie the same fluffiness, but it was passable. -- posted by John W

Banana Walnut Breakfast Shake

I created this shake as its fast, healthy and keeps me full for hours. I don't have time for a traditional breakfast so I make this in the mornings. The walnuts give it a nice thick consistency and the fats in nuts are very good for us. I enjoy making it every morning. I love that it tastes like a banana milkshake, without the empty calories!!! -- posted by starkrazi

Berry Yoghurt Smoothie

I got this recipe from Sarah Owen's book "The Top 100 juices", published by Lifetime Distributers, Castle Hill, Australia.
Sarah Owen says "The super-nutrient vitamin C is needed for more than 300 diferent processes in the body, but it is easily wiped out by smoking, pollution and stress. Found in abundance in berries, vitamin C and other antioxidants help to quash the damaging free radicals that are associated with many illnesses."
The original recipe calls for natural bio yoghurt to be used, but any yoghurt will do.
This makes a large amount of smoothie, and if you're making it just for yourself, I'ld recommend halving it.
I hope you enjoy this healthy - but still tasty - smoothie :) -- posted by TALIA #3

Veggie Green Drink

I came up with this one night after a long drive from New York to Philadelphia. All I had eaten were french fries, so I was desperate to get some greens into me fast! This drink took care of the craving right away. The stevia helps to blunt the harsh taste of the veggies. If you want to make it a soup, use less water and perhaps add some spices instead of the stevia. Also, the yogurt can easily be omitted if you are vegan or have dairy issues; just use less water, -- posted by Jainene

Tink's Tropical Smoothie

Using my new (to me) VitaMix blender, I've been experimenting with smoothie options. I don't like milk, yogurt, or even much ice cream so the usual recipes don't appeal to me. However, at Jamba Juice I always sub pineapple sherbert in my drinks. To date, this is my favorite homemade smoothie & it's the closest to my favorite Jamba flavor. I'm posting it now so I don't forget what combination I used this time. :) It's a tropical, not too sweet, drink with all frozen fruit & juice. -- posted by **Tinkerbell**

Fall Harvest Smoothie

This recipe tastes like pumpkin pie in a glass! You will never know it is packed with veggies and fruits and "good for you stuff". Top with a little fat free whip cream for an extra-special desert. My teen-age daughter begs for this and sometimes we even heat it up for a thick soup. The key to this recipe is to make sure you use a blender/smoothie maker that has enough power to completely puree alll the ingredients; otherwise the squash will stay stringy. -- posted by RackeSRN

I had a can of pumpkin puree (leftover from #396754) to use up, so I whipped up -- or rather, blended -- this simple smoothie for breakfast. Increase the honey (or other alternative sweetener) if you want a sweeter flavor.
Raspberry-Peach Smoothie (Diabetic)

This recipe is from a health magazine and was created by a Diabetes Education Program Director. It has low glycemic index ingredients such as peaches, apples, milk and yogurt. The moderate glycemic index ingredients would be the raspberries and the high index item would be the honey. It is very yummy and not overly sweet! I think it favors a milk shake! They say feel free to sub out blueberries or strawberries for the raspberries. -- posted by JanuaryBride

Pumpkin Smoothie

I came up with this when trying to adapt my smoothies to something more "fall-ish"... I absolutely love it, as does my husband! You have to separate and freeze the pumpkin in advance but it's fine to just do that in sandwich baggies. I prefer freezing the pumpkin to using ice cubes because I feel they will water down the delicate flavor of the pumpkin. -- posted by AnnieGirl

Breakfast or Dessert Smoothie

Smoothies are a great way to get your daily servings of fruit, vegetables and dairy. I have one of these with a veggie-laden breakfast bagel, and another one after dinner. Mixing up which types of fruit you use ensures a great variety of flavors as well as your full range of vitamins, so these things never get old! Try berries for your frozen fruit and something tropical for your fresh fruit, or use cherries and an extra banana with chocolate milk for a treat every now and then. -- posted by Alexander Mar

Strawberry Raspberry Smoothie

I made this completely by accident, and i love it! I use Yoplait thick and creamy yougurt, i think it gives the drink the best texture, and I also use the condensed frozen juice, welches white grape is the best, but apple also works, depends on how sweet you like it. I also found substituting 1 Delmonte Fruit chiller in polar raspberry tastes better to me than the frozen berries themselves. To each his own.
For a healthier smoothie use light yougurt, no sugar added juice, and skim milk. -- posted by Chef #1470073

Kids Berrynana Smoothie

Smoothie recipe I found in the healthy food section of Parents Magazine. I altered it slightly by adding blueberries and strawberries and increasing the yogurt and ice. My daughter loved it, which I was surprised. It isn't sweet at all. You can taste all the fruit in it. I enjoyed it, and I'm sure over time I'll get used to a non-sweet smoothie. I liked this recipe because it didn't contain any fruit juice or sugar or honey.
Strawberry Banana Crunch Shake

This easy shake goes good for just about anything- breakfast, a lunch drink, a dinner dessert, and a perfect snack. It's simple and you run by the ingredients every time you go to the store. I used the Nestle YoCrunch yogurt because it has two of the main ingredients but you could use whatever kind you'd like. Just try it and you'll be happy! -- posted by Nick R.

Devil's Smoothie - Cure for the Common Cold

I've known about this recipe for several years and it is time to be shared with RecipeZaar. This recipe is from Melissa Ray Davis and taken from her blog.
This smoothie is a treatment for the common cold and is best taken at the early onset of symptoms. It is strong and I usually take it over a period of an hour and probably best not taken on an empty stomach.
Fresh ingredients are key! Also, get unsweetened 100% cranberry juice - not a juice cocktail. -- posted by Kara9080

Fiberlicious Smoothie

As a serious smoothie addict, I have done quite a bit of experimenting to make something both delicious and filling. While I do love smoothies with fresh fruit, this particular recipe works best with frozen fruit because of the addition of cereal. Play around with flavors of yogurt and fruit until you find a pairing that you love! My favorite is Dannon Light and Fit banana yogurt and frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries). If you want to make this low-carb, look for SoySlender brand soy milk, as it only has 1g net carbs per serving. -- posted by The Casual Gourmet

Power Packed Purple Smoothie

I've gotten really into having smoothies for breakfast lately. They taste great and it helps me get in some great nutrients to start my day. This one contains a couple ingredients that will make you think "What??!!" Trust me on this one. The cottage cheese adds lots of protein and gives the smoothie a creamy texture. Spinach adds lots of vitamin A and you can't even taste it (really, I promise!). ___________________________________________

Toddler Smoothies

Here is a refreshing drink that your toddler will love. Not to mention, it's packed with nutrients. In minutes you will have created a tasty treat that is filled with Vitamin A to promote digestion and healthy eyes. The banana also provides plenty of potassium to maintain proper electrolyte balance in your body and help lower your risk of high blood pressure. Lastly, the strawberries are an excellent source of Vitamin C, which helps eliminate free radicals from the body.

Not to mention its YUMMY, my 15 month old loves it. I only give 4 oz servings. -- posted by Kamden & Alyssas Mommy

Chocolate Peanut Butter Soymilk Smoothie

I got this from yellatyourfat.com. Yell At Your Fat is a podcast by Wendy, she has lost 139 pounds, and is doing 139 podcast sharing about her weightloss journey. She's a crazy cat and fun to listen to. She likes to sing too. hehe

You can add banana to this, or strawberries, get creative.

For frozen soy milk, measure one cup, and freeze in an ice cube tray for blending ease.

If things get stuck while blending, stop the blender and move around the frozen bits with a spoon. If you still have trouble blending, add more soy milk.

Prep and cook (blend) time are estimates, and do not include freezing time for the soymilk. (; -- posted by MoxiePurple
