Butter Mint Candies

I remember as a child going over to my Great Aunts house and she always had a candy jar filled with these mints! My sisters and I would sneak into the living room and eat them all! -- posted by beachn8tve

Sarasota's Simple Eagle Brand Fudge

I can't take any credit for this, and I'm sure this recipe has been made over and over, but, I always like to pass it on. At work, I used to take batches in every Christmas, and I was surprised to see how many people had never tried this simple recipe. For those who know me on Zaar, they know I DON'T like to bake and don't unless I have to. I'll bake cookies or a pie at Christmas, and I do bake these "TWO" cakes; rum and eggnog, and beer bread, but that is about the extent of it. Don't get me wrong, I can when I have to ... I just would rather cook. So I have been making this fudge for some 25 years. A simple mix of Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk and Morsels (any flavor). So, below is the basic recipe and some of my favorites. The best part is ... have fun with flavorings and added ingredients (extracts or liquors and dried fruits, nuts, coconut, etc). A quick 3 minutes in the microwave and then poured in a square 8x8 pan lined with foil or parchment and let cool. The easiest fudge around. -- posted by SarasotaCook

Hints from Heloise Best Fudge

This is the fudge recipe my mom and I make every single Christmas! We put it in a large jelly roll pan for cooling. It makes less (but thicker) bars in a smaller pan. But will all fit in a 9x13 cake pan or a large jelly roll. The serving size will depend on how you use them and the amount made depends on how big you cut the squares. There are similar recipes on this site that I have tried and in my opnion none taste as good or work as well as this one! The chocolate chips I can never find in a 6 oz package I just use 1.5 of the 12oz packages! Don't bother cutting this in half -- just send some to your work, your spouse's work or you kid's school -- it will be gone in no time! I sent some with DH to work a few days ago (an entire batch) and it was gone two hours, before 11am! -- posted by SarahBeth131

Best Rum Balls (America's Test Kitchen)

This recipe is from Christoper Kimball of Cook's Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen. It makes about five dozen rum balls that are intense, fudgy, chewy, complex, and balanced. Recipe can be halved or doubled. Plan ahead, since these are best when left to mellow for at least a few days in the refrigerator. They keep very well and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a couple of weeks or frozen for up to a few months. Cooking time is refrigeration time. Use vanilla for a non-alcoholic version (sometimes called moon balls). -- posted by blucoat

Milk Chocolate Truffles

This is a recipe I was taught in culinary school; the whole class had to make them for christmas and we sold them to the public- they were a hit! It was so much fun to make! We did plain truffles, vanilla truffles, and many other different flavors using different types of liquor! This is just a simple recipe- you can decorate your truffles any way you like, there is no right or wrong way- so you can be simple, or you ca be creative! So many possibility's- so little time! It does get messy, so don't be afraid to change your gloves to keep the truffles cleaner. I like to make these on a day where there isn't much else going on- you don't want to be interrupted, it is alot of fun decorating these- and eating them as well! -- posted by Xe_1501

1200 Watt Microwave Peanut Brittle

Bravo to Love2Eat’s Peanut Brittle in a Jiffy #58383 - it got me started, but with the adjustments for my higher powered microwave and some flavor changes I thought I should write my own recipe. I can not say how much Love2Eat’s note about having everything measured out and ready to go was a life saver. I use an 8 cup pyrex measuring bowl with a handle as this mixture bubbles up and gets very hot (bowl gets very hot too) - it is MOLTEN SUGAR- if your work area is not right next to your sink - have a bowl of ice water in case of burns. THIS RECIPE IS FOR A 1200 WATT MICROWAVE. Oh yeah, I sorta faked it on how many this will serve - it is habit forming. -- posted by Sandy in Dayton

Espresso-Grand Marnier Balls

I must confess that I have always adored these uncooked, boozy little Christmas balls, a sort of mock truffle, made from ground cookie crumbs, nuts, liqueur, and corn syrup. This recipe is the ultimate version after many holiday seasons of experimenting. They require at least a week of aging, tucked away in a tin out of sight and out of mind. Once unveiled they are the perfect sweet to end a gala evening. -- posted by By The Lake

Buckeyes

So-called because of the candy's resemblance of the nut of a Buckeye tree, which was thought to look like a buck's eye (deer's eye). Buckeyes are poisonous nuts, so these peanut butter and chocolate treats are a better choice for eating! There are a lot of variations of buckeyes out there, and I have spent years refining our version to what it is now - so a big thanks to everyone who served as guinea pigs ;) We like it real simple - just sweetened peanut butter and chocolate. There are a couple other 'basic' recipes on here, but none of the proportions matched this one - a factor that I consider important for ease of rolling the peanut butter balls. If they are too soft/sticky, you can't roll them, and you don't want them too hard. So I find this proportion to work quite well for us. A friend asked for this recipe to use for her wedding favors - came out wonderfully! Recipe is also easily halved - I do that frequently, with excellent results. -- posted by Starrynews

Liz's Peppermint Kisses.

You will love these for Christmas. My dad taught me this recipe, if I can do it (I have lousy hands...lol), you can do it. How did I get the sprinkles and dragées to stick? I used a thin coating of brown rice syrup that I painted on with a small brush (brown rice syrup is a liquid sweetener made from brown rice, that is just about half as sweet as sugar). Serving size really depends on how big or small you make them, I put 20 as an estimate. Have fun and enjoy!!! -- posted by .Liz.(Daddy's little Chef)

I found this recipe posted on the Vegan Fitness forums when I was searching for a recipe for homemade vegan Snickers. I adapted it to American measurements. Don't expect these to last long. Experiment with some of the add-ins (peanuts are great) and with the type of cereal (we prefer the Health Valley brand of rice chex and corn chex).
