Crock Pot Persian Lamb Stew

Persian lamb stew sends wonderful flavors your way - not spicy - just a nice blend of flavors. A meal in one pot. Serve with a salad on the side and crusty rolls to scoop up the last of the sauce.
I was very pressed for time today to make this recipe so I just put everything in the crock pot with out browning anything and it turned out heavenly - 1/2 hour on high then 4 hours on low. I used 4 shoulder steaks bone in. I did cut off any fat. Also I threw in a carrot. I love this recipe. -- posted by Bergy

Very Australian, with style :) You can use the older and fattier lamb, just be sure to skim the fat first.
Simple Irish Stew

Irish stew is easy to make and if made with mutton and cooked slowly will be both flavorsome and tender. Mutton, being an older meat, has more flavor than lamb but does need to be cooked for a couple of hours over a low heat with liquid. It should not be allowed to boil or the flavor will be spoiled. The following dish will be found to be hearty and nourishing and traditional enough. Traditionally this is eaten with fresh made Irish Soda Bread. This is especially satisfying on a cold winter evening, as the smells permiate the home and fill the stomach. -- posted by Pa.
Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks Australian Style

I love this recipe because I can make it the day before, it uses traditional and easy to grow herbs fresh from the garden and the vegetables are not exotic. Everyone seems to have their own version of this dish, but I think mine is special. I make for Sunday when we have neighbours round for a bottle ( or two) of wine and a casual lunch, so I can cook it slowly the day before and reheat it on the day. Because of slow cooking the vegetables melt and create a wonderful sauce. The meat falls off the bones. Keep it topped up with liquid while slow cooking. A real favourite on a winters day. -- posted by Cosmiccook

Rosemary Lamb Chili (Crock Pot)

Scotch Broth

This recipe comes from The Gourmet Slow Cooker by Lynn Alley. Scotch Broth is a Scottish tradition that dates bake hundreds of years. This dish has plenty of substance and flavor. Cooking it in the crockpot makes it so easy to have dinner ready in no time. It is suggested that this be served with a Scotch beer or ale and some heavy crusty bread. -- posted by PaulaG

My Scouse

My husband's family come from Liverpool and this recipe is an amalgamation of the Scouse recipes belonging to his Nana, his mum, and his dad. Since I've been using the slow cooker, it has achieved the ultimate accolade; it's as good as Nana's. It is traditionally made with the 'scrag end' but I tend to go for lean stir-fry lamb instead. It is important to use King Edwards if you can find them because they fall and go all mushy during the cooking process. -- posted by Ju_Staniford

Slow Cooked Crock Pot Roman Lamb

An original & very old recipe from Italian friends in Northern Italy - this recipe has been handed down through the ages & is an absolute show stopper for large family gatherings! After the initial browning of the meat, it cooks beautifully in a slow cooker or crock pot, slowly fragrancing the kitchen with a mouthwatering aroma! I have given the quantities that were originally given to me - that is LARGE, up to 14 hungry people! The recipe can be halved for a smaller gathering however. The legs of lamb I used were about 2 kilos each, that's about 4 1/2 lbs.If you are unsure about boning a leg of lamb yourself, ask your butcher to do it for you OR use ready boned & diced mixed lamb meat. Roman lamb is best served with plain steamed potatoes to mop all those yummy juices up with & some fresh green beans. It is also BRILLIANT as a pie filling afterwards - that's if you have any left! -- posted by French Tart

Low Fat Balti Lamb Curry (Or Beef)

German Lamb in Sour Cream (Crock Pot) (Aka Treasure Trove #1)

A few days ago I discovered a long-lost treasure trove of recipes I had copied while in Dallas & sent to Iceland for safe keeping. The effort was forgotten over time in the excitement of coming here & DH hid them so safely that it was nearly 4 yrs b4 I found them & realized what they were. In my pre-RZ cooking phase, I used 3 main recipe sources. My best guess is this may have been a Food Network recipe & I will be guessing w/ea I enter.
Leg of Lamb for the Slow Cooker / Crock Pot

Lamb is consumed quite a bit in Australia. I cooked this leg of lamb in the slow cooker today for Little Miss (DD) and Hubby (DD). I don’t eat red meat, but I don't deprive my family if they want to eat it. You may not want to season the lamb with salt, as this recipe has the liquid stock & soy which both have high salt contents, but it's up to your taste bugs. You could also push some rosemary into the incisions with the garlic or sprinkle some around the lamb once its in the Slow Cooker / Crock Pot. Hubby said the meat fell away from the bone.
Modified version of a recipe I found on the 'net that I thought turned out great. Apart from a few small changes to seasoning the original recipe called for a cup of wine rather than beer, sometimes I feel with tomato that makes things a bit rich when slow-cooked and I thought the beer substitution worked well. If you don't want to use beer try a cup of beef stock instead of the stock powder / beer. Also whole garlic cooked this way doesn't taste strong at all, if you want it to have a strong garlic taste you'd need to crush some of it. -- posted by Peter J

Lamb for Learners! Redcurrant and Honey Glazed Lamb (Crock Pot)

This is the name that my daughter came up with, for my most requested lamb dish! She did not realise how easy it was to cook, as the results are so sophisticated and special! I have never made it other than in the crock-pot, but I am sure it would cook very well in an AGA or wood burning range......long and slow. This is an ALL YEAR around recipe, as we have cooked this in the summer and served this meltingly tender lamb with salads and crusty bread - as well as in the winter with mountains of mashed potatoes! The redcurrant and honey glaze is sensational, and makes the most divine gravy or sauce. Do not be tempted to use a cheap and low fruit content redcurrant jelly, it gives nowhere near the same taste and results as a high fruit jelly. I always use a leg of lamb for this dish - but I suspect that shoulder of lamb would work extremely well. Be warned......this is a fall off the bone, moist and very succulent way of cooking lamb!! -- posted by French Tart

Crock Pot Beef or Lamb Casserole

An economical meal for a family. Crock Pot/slow cookers are a winner in the heat of summer and great to put dinner on before going to work in the mornings. Who could beat a hearty casserole in winter either?
You can use whatever veges that you have at hand. Use a gluten-free flour and stock if making this recipe gluten-free. Serve with toast, pasta or rice. I remember my mother making this casserole when I was a child. To make a richer gravy substitute 1 cup of red wine for 1 cup of stock. This is a great rustic dish- no need to be to accurate with your measurements or weights -- posted by **Jubes**

Lamb With Lentils (Crock Pot)

This simple hearty stew needs a 5 -quart slow cooker/crock pot. One change I made when I made this recipe was to add a lamb bone (leftover from Easter dinner) and some leftover lamb (I think if you have enough leftover lamb this will work very well, but I also added 1 1/2 pounds or so of uncooked lamb - following the directions below) in the crock pot; then when I came home from work I took out the lamb bone (the meat from the bone already fell off the bone into the soup) and added the swiss chard, went out and dinner was done! The other change I made was instead of a whole can of tomatoes (which I didn't have) I used one can of broth, 1/2 can of tomatoes and 2 small cans of tomato juice. Very hearty and filling -- you would never even guess that this was a "healthy" recipe.
Gigot a La Cuillère - French Slow Cooked Spoon Lamb

A classic French Bistro recipe, and one that is SO easy to cook; the lamb in this recipe is cooked after 5 or 6 hours, but 7 hours is the traditional French timing for 'gigot a la cuillère' - a joint that can be carved with a spoon, hence its name!
You will need a very large ovenproof casserole with a lid or a large, deep roasting tin, which you can cover tightly with tin foil - or, this can be cooked with GREAT success in the crock-pot. This lamb is just divine when served alongside gratin Dauphinoise and steamed haricots verts. I add lots of garlic for quite a pungent flavour - adjust the garlic and seasonings to personal taste. -- posted by French Tart

Bo-Kaap Cape Malay Kerrie - South African Cape Malay Curry

This distinctive and tasty authentic curry relies heavily on the special blend of spices, known as Cape Malay curry powder. Cape Malay curries are famous for their fruity and full-bodied flavours, making good use of local colourful vegetables or meat and fish, they are not as hot as the curries used in the Indian kitchen. This "secret" recipe hails from one of the steamy kitchens in the vibrant Bo-Kaap area of Cape Town; it was on a recipe sheet given to my mum from a spice shop in that wonderful area, in the 1950's. The Bo-Kaap area is a treat; the houses are painted gorgeous bright colours that won't fail to make you smile, there are always children playing in the streets and the haunting call of the muezzin will remind you of exotic destinations such as Istanbul and Cairo. And then there's the smell of spices that wafts through open doorways and comes rushing out at you as you walk past Atlas Trading, the local spice emporium. You might be just minutes from the centre of elegant and sophisticated Cape Town, but you'll feel as though you're in a different country.
Serve this curry with yellow rice and a variety of sambals and atjars. -- posted by French Tart

Cinnalamb

A simple, slow cooked, one pot dish with very few ingredients but delicious flavour. Created when I had little in the cupboards and using my favourite meat and favourite spice. I use cinnamon bark (not the curled sticks) which you can normally buy quite cheaply in packets from the Asian shops rather than powder as it gives a more natural flavour. I've not tried it with red wine yet but I bet a good slug of a nice spicy red would go well in it too! Goes really nicely with roasted or mashed sweet potato. -- posted by Veeliscious!

Greek Lamb Stew

This recipe comes from "That's Trump" (one of the "Best of Bridge" series) with a few modifications. To me, this is one of those perfect recipes that I make time and again. I love the tomato and the seasonings. Just a hint of cinammon, a little bit sweet, and so full of flavour! I like to make it ahead and refrigerate. The flavour improves and that way I can take the fat off the surface. The original recipe suggests serving with coconut rice, but we love it with mashed potatoes. -- posted by Paja

Lamb and Okra (Bamyeh) over Rice

I learned to cook from Palestinians, but I have altered methods. I learned to cook the meat in this recipe by searing/browning it on all sides in a pan. I changed that method to make the meat more tender and to create a meat stock to add to the stew for depth of flavor. You can make this with lamb or beef. Middle Eastern cultural preference is lamb but beef can be easily substituted (and using my method to cook it, nobody will know the difference). Time saving tip: if you plan to use lamb, most commercial butchers are happy to remove the meat from the bone, remove the fat, and sometimes even cube the meat for you. But you have to ask for it! Smaller/shorter okra are strongly preferred. Bud-like okra can be found frozen in most Middle Eastern or Indian grocery stores. Alternate idea for okra: omit the meat from this recipe to make a hearty snack to eat on pitas! -- posted by Ayah Elisabeth
