Roasted Pears With Caramel Sauce

Posted by hannahactually

This is very easy and very good, and makes a huge amount of very sweet caramel sauce. My only suggestion would be to add a bit of salt to the sauce to temper the sweetness a little bit. — Sass Smith Oct 11, 2008

Mango Lassi Frozen Yogurt (For Ice Cream Maker)

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by Evil Jungle Prince

This was just wonderful. I made some minor substitutions (homemade yogurt and heavy cream instesd of store-bought greek yogurt, plus rosewater instead of vanilla and a little more cardamom than called for). Really complex and creamy and mango-y.... — Sass Smith Jun 1, 2008

Sauce That Goes With Everything

Posted by MrsMM

This is very good, MrsMM. Very Mediterranean flavors, and it's pretty low in fat! I especially like that you were generous with the capers — I had this on chicken and will try it next on pork. Thanks for an easy, flavorful recipe! — Sass Smith Apr 8, 2008

Chicken and Mango Curry

Posted by dale!

While this was a really good base for a curry dish, I felt like it needed some serious tweaks. There is way too much oil and way, way too much fish sauce; you could probably cut both ingredients in half and improve the flavor dramatically.... — Sass Smith Mar 20, 2008

Mean Chef's Sauteed Mushrooms

Posted by ~Bekah~

Really tasty. I agree with some other reviewers that the amount of oil/butter could be reduced. Subbed a healthy splash of vermouth for the wine and lemon juice, bring some nice sweetness to the party. We'll definitely make these again, as DH has... — Sass Smith Mar 16, 2008

Fresh Semolina and Egg Pasta

Posted by spatchcock

This is just foolproof! I was having trouble getting the pasta thin enough (sadly, I can't quite afford a good pasta-maker yet), but I picked up a good tip for Joy of Cooking: When you roll the pasta, divide it into four or more sections and roll... — Sass Smith Feb 9, 2008

Five (Or More!) Ingredient Garlic Quinoa

Posted by Happy Harry #2

This was really flavorful and filling. I used beef broth instead of water and subbed frozen green peas for the carrots (stirred in for the last minute or so of cooking). Very tasty; I'd use this to replace plain white rice or couscous and add or... — Sass Smith Jan 12, 2008

Crispy Spinach

Posted by Girl from India

Wow, wow, wow! I was looking for a way to replicate the saag chaat served at a very upscale Indian restaurant. This has different flavors, but is absolutely delicious. We used very hot oil and just roughly cut up the spinach with scissors. So tasty!! — Sass Smith Dec 30, 2007

Sauteed Yellow Turnips (Swede or Rutabaga)

These are marvelous and buttery and very autumnal - but they do take a long time to cook and they do require a LARGE pan. — Sass Smith Dec 3, 2007

Salt Potatoes New York Style

Posted by Baker*Chick

Oh so good and so easy. The potatoes come out creamy and with just the right amount of saltiness, despite the huge quantity of salt in the water. I make these on a regular basis now - high praise from a born-and-bred Southern girl Sass Smith Dec 3, 2007

Butter Chicken

Posted by Tansy.

This was INCREDIBLE! Served to guests who have lived all over the world and love Indian food; they had two and three helpings each. The chicken was so tender, and the flavor was so rich. I did skip sauteing the chicken - just dumped it in the pot... — Sass Smith Dec 3, 2007

Aloo Gobi

This was good, but not great, I'm afraid. It seemed to be missing something; the flavor was just a bit flat. I followed the recipe exactly, but skipped the coriander due to strong dislike. — Sass Smith Dec 3, 2007

Classic Cream Scones

Posted by Barbara Heller

I've been experimenting with making this recipe in loaf form, so that it can be sliced and buttered. Turns out quite well, with a rich, creamy sort of interior. I had to add a fair amount of extra milk to get the dough to come together - maybe... — Sass Smith Dec 3, 2007

Pasta With Creamy Pumpkin Sauce

Posted by KissaK1

This was really lovely and rich. I used a kabocha squash and subbed heavy whipping cream for the lowfat milk (decadent, but it was all I had in the house!). It did need a fair amount of salt, I felt. — Sass Smith Nov 28, 2007

Red Curry Paste

(3 people found this helpful) Posted by tigerduck

This was fabulous, although I had to sub a couple of ingredients - I am too lazy to go out in the cold and get them myself! I skipped the coriander root, using a bit more cumin and ground coriander, subbed two kaffir lime leaves for the rind, and... — Sass Smith Nov 23, 2007

This is a keeper! Surprisingly rich; I used about 50-50 evaporated milk and half and half, and fresh grated ginger. DH loved it. I will upload some pics soon. — Sass Smith Nov 11, 2007

Yum, yum, yum! Moist, caramelized on the outside, strong banana flavor - next time I might add a little more sugar. I got 15 regular muffins and 12 mini-muffins from this recipe. — Sass Smith Nov 4, 2007

Jayne’s Peanut Butter Noodles

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by Julesong

I admit the Firefly reference reeled me in, but this is quite a tasty dish. I stir-fried some pork (not strictly authentic but I need some protein) in sesame oil and added a splash of rice vinegar (maybe two tablespoons). Quite nice. — Sass Smith Oct 27, 2007

Coconut Cake with Coconut Syrup

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by Mirj

This was delightful! Next time I may cut down on the sugar a bit - I made it without frosting and it was still very sweet. However, the texture was great and the coconut flavor was very good. — Sass Smith Jun 7, 2006
