Flour Frosting

(8 people found this helpful) Posted by Leta

I decided to edit my review. We made this frosting when I was a child and I always liked it because it wasn't so cloyingly sweet. And this is the frosting I used on the cake that won me first prize at the county fair when I was about 13! — mainecooncat Jul 28, 2006

Rowand Style Deviled Eggs

Posted by winter rowand

Excellent! The horseradish is subtle enough to add a bit of surprise with the first bite, but it's not overpowering. For myself, I'd add even more, but I really like horseradish. Definitely a step up from the same old deviled eggs. — mainecooncat Jun 10, 2006

Mascarpone Bouchees (Mini Cheese Balls)

Posted by winter rowand

I really didn't want to share these with anyone, but I did. I took a double recipe with me to a family gathering and I probably should have brought twice as many. The flavors and textures are just right! — mainecooncat Jun 10, 2006

How could this be any easier?! I took it to a family gathering and there was nothing left to bring home but the bowl. Will definitely be making this again! — mainecooncat Jun 10, 2006

Grilled Chicken Breasts With Garlic Butter

Posted by Gaelige Coinnaigh

This was really yummy. I pan-grilled the chicken breasts. The garlic butter is a great flavor on these. Next time I might try them on my George Foreman grill for a super-quick meal. — mainecooncat Jun 10, 2006

Fabulous Mint Tea

(2 people found this helpful) Posted by Gaelige Coinnaigh

Very refreshing, but lively drink. The mint really adds a special touch and putting it in as part of the steeping process makes it a lot more part of the flavor than adding a sprig of mint after the tea has been brewed. — mainecooncat Jun 10, 2006

Spaetzle With Gruyère and Caramelized Onions

(2 people found this helpful) Posted by NcMysteryShopper

oh, wow! This was just absolutely wonderful! I will admit to cheating and using premade spaetzle as a time-saver, but it still is great. Just interesting enough for people to say, "Ooh, what IS this?" — mainecooncat Jan 29, 2006

This was wonderful! I've never had it before, but I think it could become a special occasion dish for us. As one reviewer suggested, I added a little crumbled bacon because I feel just about anything benefits from the addition of bacon. Rich,... — mainecooncat Jan 9, 2006

Fabulous, Nearly Fat-Free Tartar Sauce

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by Chef Kate

This really is fabulous! Now I can indulge without feeling like I'm ruining a healthy fish meal. I did have to use gerkins because I couldn't find cornichons anywhere in my city, but , if it tastes this good with the gerkins, I can't wait to try... — mainecooncat Jan 7, 2006

Emaw's Salmon Patty Project

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by riffraff

we thought this tasted almost like a salmon-flavored hushpuppy...seemed to be an awful lot of cornmeal in there. My husband also felt they needed a little "something" as a flavor boost. Next time I might try some lemon juice and/or some dill weed. — mainecooncat Jan 7, 2006

This was excellent! Between the two of us, we're busy at least three evenings a week so dinner is always late. I try to do lots of things in the crockpot so they'll be ready when we walk in the door at 8 or 9. This will be high on my list of "do... — mainecooncat Oct 15, 2005
