Fresh Fruit With Vanilla Custard Sauce

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by Derf

Really good - you need to add the hot milk to the egg/sugar mixture very slowly in order to ensure nothing cooks, and the window between "thickened" and "overcooked and slightly grainy" is very short, but the recipe works beautifully. — likestocooklovestoeat Jul 25, 2009

Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding

Posted by tara portee

This recipe is spectacular - the Chessmen cookies elevate it beyond the ordinary, and the French Vanilla and fresh banana flavors come together really nicely. Having had it once, I'll be looking for excuses to make it again. — likestocooklovestoeat Jul 1, 2009

Decadent Cocoa-Oatmeal Cookie Mix

Posted by heather in Ont,

I skipped making the mix and just made the cookies - they were chocolatey and tender, a nice twist on traditional oatmeal. I substituted toasted chopped pecans for the macadamia nuts; I think next time I'll add dried cherries too. — likestocooklovestoeat Jun 20, 2009

Indian Chili Chicken with Onions

This was really tasty - lots of flavor with a hint of heat. Nice! We'd eat it again. — likestocooklovestoeat Apr 18, 2008

Jalapeno-Red Bean-BBQ Burgers

Posted by EdsGirlAngie

Good flavor, but these really need another egg white as binder to hold together. It would be a lot easier to cook them in a skillet or on a griddle using a spatula with a sharp edge to flip them; you wouldn't leave so much good tasting stuff on... — likestocooklovestoeat Apr 18, 2008

Thanks to you and Emaw - this was delicious, and very flexible depending upon the ingredients on hand. — likestocooklovestoeat Apr 11, 2008

I Lost My Noodles! Low Carb/South Beach Eggplant Lasagna

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by PattiCakeB

This was tasty, but I had two issues: first the finished lasagna was very wet; when I make it again, I'll squeeze any moisture out of the spinach and drain the diced tomatoes (you could use just one 15 ounce can of tomato sauce too). Second, the... — likestocooklovestoeat Apr 5, 2008

Roasted Cauliflower & 16 Roasted Cloves of Garlic

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by ~Rita~

This was hands-down one of the best recipes for cauliflower we've tasted. It also seems really versatile - swap out rosemary for chipotle or adobo chilies and you've got an equally great dish. — likestocooklovestoeat Mar 5, 2008

Chicken and Mango Curry

Posted by dale!

This is a superlative curry; the flavor is really complex, the heat level is nice and the mango is a wonderful addition. — likestocooklovestoeat Mar 1, 2008

Bean, Bacon, and Blue Cheese Dip

Really good - I would make this again; I might try adding a tablespoon of an acid, like red wine vinegar. — likestocooklovestoeat Feb 3, 2008

Moosewood Homespun Pot Pie

Posted by charlened

This was a great recipe - the chopping and prep is worth it. As written, the recipe is mild - if you want more flavor, add more mustard or soy. We especially loved the biscuit topping. — likestocooklovestoeat Jan 8, 2008

Jam Thumbprints

These are just terrific - I love them, and they always get rave reviews. The instructions to weigh the cookie portions are very helpful - I get exactly the number of cookies I expect. — likestocooklovestoeat Dec 15, 2007

Creole Black Beans and Rice

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by Tonkcats

A co-worker of mine has been making this for our office holiday party for years - I love it, but she's retiring, so I'm delighted to see it here for safekeeping. This recipe is terrific and easy - a crockpot recipe that's not mushy or bland. Yum! — likestocooklovestoeat Dec 9, 2007

Blueberry-Oatmeal Muffins

Posted by Dancer^

These are nice! Instead of blueberries, we substituted a cup of fruit compote that had been languishing in the freezer, and that worked well - I think this recipe would hold up nicely to other fruit substitutions. — likestocooklovestoeat Dec 9, 2007

Banana-Oatmeal Bread

This was terrific - it's my new go-to banana bread recipe. We used yogurt instead of buttermilk, and it was a fine substitution. — likestocooklovestoeat Dec 9, 2007

Moroccan Orange Salad

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by A Messy Cook

This was great. I doubled the amount of dates and used more cinnamon; approximate measurements seem fine depending on tastes. Coconut would be a nice addition. — likestocooklovestoeat Dec 9, 2007

Yakisoba

Posted by Sue L

We loved this! The cabbage really cooks down, so when I do it again, I might add 1.5 or even 2 lbs, because I like it. It seems counterintuitive to put the beef in last, but the covered cooking time helps ensure it's cooked through. — likestocooklovestoeat Dec 9, 2007
