Ethiopian Dorowat version 2

Posted by Megstar

I adapted this for the crockpot by cooking the onions and garlic in the skillet as directed, then putting everything in the crockpot on low for about 6 hours. This worked great. I do think there's a bit too much paprika, and next time will use... — cookinthewoods Sep 12, 2009

Old Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake with Sweetened Flavoured Whipped Cream

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by Derf

Very good, but agree with some other reviewers that a couple of tablespoons of sugar in the shortcake would improve it. — cookinthewoods May 29, 2009

Pumpkin Muffins

Really very good. I made them with walnuts instead of raisins. My husband is crazy about them! — cookinthewoods Mar 27, 2009

Pumpkin Streusel Coffee Cake

Posted by superblondieno2

Oh boy, this is really good! Not overly sweet, and nice and spicy. You could even add a dash of cloves and nutmeg to spice it up a bit more. Makes up perfectly in a square brownie pan. — cookinthewoods Feb 10, 2009

Oatmeal Pumpkin Cookies

Posted by Jess4Freedom

These had a nice flavor, but came out too mushy for me. If I try them again, I will add more flour or oats. — cookinthewoods Feb 8, 2009

Salmon Patties

Posted by L DJ

These were really good, but I think they might have been a bit bland without the teaspoon of lemon pepper that I added (I didn't have white pepper or celery salt.) — cookinthewoods Jan 15, 2009

Creamy Turkey Soup (Crock Pot)

Posted by Marg (CaymanDesigns)

This was very good, but a little bland for us. Next time I will add some pepper and/or paprika to spice it up. A great way to use up leftover turkey, though! — cookinthewoods Jan 4, 2009

Pumpkin Muffins

Posted by ratherbeswimmin'

These had a great flavor, but were a little too sweet for us. Also, I used fresh pumpkin, and so they were a little too damp. Next time, I will reduce the sugar to 1 cup, and reduce or eliminate the water. But we are enjoying them! — cookinthewoods Dec 11, 2008

Spinach and Feta Cheese Quiche

Posted by Tonkcats

This was yummy, though I agree with the other reviewer that a whole teaspoon of salt would be too much. I added just a dash, which was fine. Feta is already pretty salty. It was a good way to use up leftover cottage cheese, too. — cookinthewoods Nov 6, 2008

All Day Beef Stew

Posted by Mille® ™

This was easy and good, but a little bland for us. The turnip added a nice flavor, but next time I will add some pepper, and maybe a bit more thyme and oregano. — cookinthewoods Oct 16, 2008

(Panera Bread) Black Bean Soup

Posted by najwa

This was good, but I think it would have been a bit bland without the 1/2 tsp of red pepper that I added. I also made it in the crockpot, cooking a bag of dried black beans on low for about five hours, measuring out four cups of them, then... — cookinthewoods Jul 24, 2008

Southern Fried Salmon Patties

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by Dari Donovan

These are good, and easy to make, but a little doughy for us. The second time I made them, I cut the flour and cornmeal in half, and they still stuck together well and tasted more salmon-y. The next time I will also add a little Old Bay... — cookinthewoods Jul 24, 2008

Delicious Drumsticks

Really good! I used olive oil instead of butter, in deference to my husband's cholesterol level. — cookinthewoods Jul 24, 2008

Black-eyed Peas with Garlic and Kale

Posted by CinLin

I didn't have kale, so I used collard greens sliced thin and cooked for about 25 minutes, because they are a little tougher than kale. It turned out great! Had it with oven-fried drumsticks and cornbread. Definitely a menu we will repeat. — cookinthewoods Jul 24, 2008

Fresh Rhubarb Pie

(1 person found this helpful) Posted by Lisa_Roy

Tasted delicious, but didn't set up at all! Next time, I will make it as a cobbler, with no bottom crust. But as a cobbler, I think it would be great with ice cream. — cookinthewoods May 7, 2008

Chicken in Coconut Milk (Indian)

Posted by eatrealfood

Boy, this was really good! I didn't have the dried chilies, but it was fairly spicy without them. I also used chicken thighs instead of breasts. I served it over whole wheat couscous. Next time, I will try this in the crockpot to really let the... — cookinthewoods May 5, 2008

Really excellent! I added a vegetable bouillon cube to the liquid for a bit more flavor. Freezes well, too. — cookinthewoods May 1, 2008
